  1. Did a deep dive into the 37 mid-year coach firings since 2000. And there's a really (kind of intuitive) but rarely talked about reason that at least partially explains why the Bears probably haven't had a mid-year coach firing in recent history. Of course most of the first 63 years of the franchise, Halas was simply not firing himself mid-year. But recent history at least theres 1 seemingly strong indicator (besides the obvious W-L) Accepting guesses.
  2. Bahahahaha, classic "sorry you're breaking up on me, I sssccccchhhhh"
  3. I was just happy there was at least one non idiot arguing the counterpoint correctly.
  4. This reminds me of an argument I heard on the radio during one of the big power balls and they were arguing whether or not something like 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 was a bad powerball play or not.
  5. Tbf would be a whole heck of a lot of work. Maybe a good opportunity for trial runs to test out the rigging systems though
  6. JT doesn't have doom porn this week but he's still releasing a Justin Fields feature film I missed the first 3 quarters Sunday and haven't yet been able to replay. May just watch this instead lol
  7. The "they've never done it" argument is overrated IMO. Plus, think there's a good chance Warren is a differentiator here. Maybe Phillips just never wanted to (I'm sure George could be convinced to do whatever). A stinker Thursday could do it. But by the point that they can start interviewing (week 16?) I don't see why it can't happen by then.
  8. Pretty surprised in all honestly. I hope it's "real" and them not just some bogus attempt at job saving.
  9. I'd put Russ/Broncos ahead of that grouping Yea, I mean the Vegas / ESPN power index odds put it at something like 45%. So the actual Vegas/Analytic odds do probably put a 3-7% odds to run off 3 straight. But basically all of that built in is a major change to the way they've been playing.
  10. It's perfectly... Get-offense-on-track-able. I don't think the D can make enough stops or get other offenses off the field.
  11. I mean I'm sure Janocko can do a short week install without making massive changes, and then use mini bye to actually tweak things. But I bet if changes happen they let TNF air out due to the calendar benefits
  12. I don't think Johnson will be as explosive as Herbert. He does have a real trait. It's just not a trait worth trying to capitalize on anymore if the Bears are 0-7 and facing a regime blow up. Draft a day 3 Khalil Herbert every year and hope 25-33% of them hit.
  13. If things continue to go real south, Herbert has to be at top of list for a trade dump before deadline.
  14. So Bedard is pretty good huh
  15. He seemed pretty happy in the post game interview. Anyways I'm not pining for DM. It sucks they never had a good team around him, but he's still at a position that ages quick and he certainly isn't the difference in futility for Bears or not. And Roschon looking like a legit replacement helps. Herbert - think he's never gonna be more than a complementary back.
  16. Finally finding the median fan insanity point somewhere between a divisional round appearance and a SB loss. Stopping after this one, my research is complete lol
  17. Rofl, update on my Twitter polls. 62% of the fanbase is apparently just gonna dig in and root against the 2023 Bears. Not sure I even try poll 4 to get it under 50%
  18. Anything I've seen is conjecture. The biggest piece of evidence is that Eberflus was scheduled for a second interview before Bears had their first intervuew with Poles. However Flus also had a second interview and was thought to be a finalist in Jacksonville, who weren't waiting on a GM search. So it's a pretty reasonable explanation that they were just getting ahead on a favorable candidate since they needed to get through GM process. McCaskey was up front that their preference was to hire GM first, but he didn't rule out the other way. Some conspiracy to cover up Flus being hired first seems wholly unnecessary to me, but 🤷. Poles was hired first. Flus' second interview happened with Poles. Poles talked to I think 3 other guys. That's a lot of unnecessary work to go through if Flus was already the guy. I think it's people seeing what they want to (and they want to bitch about Ted/George) The other simpler explanation is that the alignment of coach to GM was a major plus for them and perhaps an influence, but not some mandate. Bottom line is whether Poles has to hang his hat on the hire or not, and I think he does. They found the GM who liked the coach they liked is about the worst simple explanation. But then it's still Poles coach.
  19. Josh Lucas burning all his old insider info in desperate attempt to get a media gig I guess
  20. Yea, Bears fans wanting him alone is a sure sign that it's a bad thing. We have the worst track record of all time pining for random backup QBs.
  21. I don't care in the sense of like, of course if it's a 0-17 then it doesn't matter. But I do want them to be better. If they did go even like 6-11 it's because some of these guys are actual good young players. Even some of the non rookie guys are young enough and under contracr enough where they arent sunk assets you just need to drop (like Mack was in 22). And sure there's only 1 Caleb Williams in the draft, but like 1) Carolina pick alone has potential to get you there 2) Two potential top 10 picks, gobs of cap space, an few extra day 2/3 pick in 24/25... They actually do have the assets to do good things. If they can't use all that to make a below average team a really good one, Caleb Williams probably won't matter, and they'll top out as Stafford era Lions anyways.
  22. I mean they did spend a decent amount of money on D (certainly not as much as they could have). But also, they spent more than the production they're getting (along with 4 top 64 picks over past two years). Of course, they put most the assets into all the wrong places, on top of marrying it with a D that traditionally REALLY needs the talent in those specific spots. So yea this D is terrible, and a lot definitely is coaching and scheme. Although obviously Poles can't hide from that either.
  23. Okay, but Poles failing writ large isn't an indictment of the value of Moore over a 2025 FRP.
  24. DJ Moore has two under contract years (prime years) for a hypothetical rookie QB in 2024 to have as a weapon. That's 100% more valuable that a 2025 FRP. To say otherwise is to fall down this trap about perfectly laid plans and "don't actually try until you're really ready to try" thing (more Process brain junk)
