So some people hate this pick because he is too safe and will be only a consistent starter and not a star and others hate it because he's not gonna start this year (though he really might) Figures. When the haters can't agree it was probably a good pick

With the number of DTs available, one of them should fall to 51. Jernigan might have a better chance than the others because of failed drug test. Not sure all will last to 51, so when two remain Emery should start casually working the phones and as soon as only one is left, look to be aggressive and jump up. That's assuming of course his boards look something like the consensus boards. For all we know he will like a LB in that range over the DL.

While Fuller doesn't have any single stand out physical attributes, when taken as a whole he is a really well rounded athlete. And when you look at what Emery has always looked for in his WRs (and this is his most well established trait, that we can trace back all the way to his time in Atlanta), it makes sense he'd like similar things in the guys who have to defend those WRs. So height/size is definitely important and overall physicality, body control, and instincts are important. These are still athletic traits but much more subtle traits and probably harder to quantify (unlike a 40 time). Now granted his other two CB picks did not fit these physical traits but they were also late picks and u just won't find size like that out if day 3 CB.

Ward and Buccannon are consensus 2nd rounders

I think Tuitt, Nix, or Hageman will last to mid 40s at least, so that's trade up range. I'd be happy with any.

I'd say Gilbert, Donald, and Barr. Question is did the just like Fuller the most or had no reasonable trade downs then.

Once Lewan was off the board early it was clear they would need to trade up to get a consensus guy so they must have felt comfortable not doing so.

I would love Ward but there'd be a lot of crossover in year one between Fuller and Ward at nickel/free safety. Yea if I have my choice we'll be addressing the front 4 anyways.

I can understand if you just like it as background noise, but if you like viewing each pick and getting all the player eval stuff, I think three days splits it into reasonable viewing portions. Sat and Sun used to be a marathon, and I loved it, but not sure is be able to do that now. If you just wanna see who was picked where and follow the trade movement find a good twitter feed and watch whatever tv you'd prefer to watch.

Yeah. He said basically the loss you get from having more PAs from a worse hitter are roughly balanced out by having a better hitter interact with the top of the lineup. He had it at +2 runs a year, but basically it's so close as to be indeterminable. Was there any benefit determined from gaining extra PH opportunities in which a manager can play matchups? Kind of goes against the other part because if your 9 hitter is good enough to improve interaction with the top of your order, you'd think he also would be better than the available PH, pool but that's the only other factor I could see in play.

The primetime and multiple day airing has killed my enthusiasm. The draft is ideal saturday afternoon background noise in the spring. But it blows as primetime television and spread across half a week. The fact that it is May has nothing to do with it for me. I don't care much about the draft being pushed to May but the multiple day is just killer. I wouldn't have minded round one on a weekday at primetime if the rest of the draft was on Saturday. And of course MLB decided to follow that pattern and extend the draft. So that would put round one Friday night and round 2-7 on the next Saturday? The old format was rounds 3-7 on Sunday and that was a marathon. I think to give round one it's own day, you have to spread it over three days. It is the most important coverage wise so you prioritize the schedule around that. That being said, they're talking about a four day event and I'm not seeing the necessity for that.

I'd feel different if Barney had his normal 5-600 OPS, but hovering under 400... I know he'll eventually turn it around, but it doesn't feel like it atm.
