I had a convo at a birthday party with a dad in town who coaches one of the catholic middle school teams, and his rants about the "pussfication of America" really put me at unease about the safety of the kids on his team.

Upside = good black QB. Downside = bad black QB. No chance = good white QB. I really tried to think of non color based examples haha. It was QBs who made a lot of plays with their legs v those who don't. Notice the lack of Byron Leftwich with the former group. That would have been the give away.

Question for everyone... how early does tackle football starts in your area? It's now 7th grade around here. Back when I was in school, it was 5th/6th grade. I guess they scrap that a few years ago. I don't blame you doing that for your son. My cousin's husband who played for Wisconsin-Whitewater (right before they got amazing) said he won't let his son play football until high school and only if his son can convince him. And as far as I know, he didn't have any concussions or injuries in UW-W, but know buddies that are still feeling the effects. It's going to be interesting because the son is 3 and he's like 3' tall and 50 lbs or something crazy. I know my nephew played in 6th grade and that was catholic school league. He didnt go back out for 7th grade (hes much more into soccer) Not sure when the pop warner or other leagues start. I started as a 4th grader back in the day, and some kids had started as 3rd graders. I think I'm in the start in HS boat. I dont want to encourage it for sure. But I honestly still do enjoy following HS football, but will probably have to stop when I have kids to not even give a hint that I'm encouraging it for them.

he was good when he was playing, but that injury will have him out at least first half of the season. i read 6-9 month recovery...tho it could still be a while after coming back before he's fully right on the field. but even on the long end of that time table, you're talking late preseason return to action. Most of what I've read has said he could end up on the PUP list. Either way, Kwiatkowski looks suitable to fill in if needed, but also perfectly fine being the primary backup.

what's that now? Hoyer and Barkley saw pretty clean pockets (10 sacks). Only Cutler, who historically isn't great at avoiding pressure, saw a lot of sacks (17 in half the number of starts). I believe the advanced stuff like hurries/pressure show this too, but am too lazy to pull up. In other words, we shouldnt expect any of our QBs to become road kill i.e. David Carr on expansion era Texans.

I'm not as high on our line as sulley is, but it certainly won't be a David Carr situation. 2 of our 3 QBs this year managed to not get killed.

So the upside isn't 39 year old Manning, Brady, Montana still doing their thing. The upside is Donavan McNabb? Downside VY, RG3, Culpepper? I think that may me appropriate risk at 3 in a draft where there is only 1 premier prospect at another premier position.

So tantalizing, yet the odds of it working out successfully are low. He wouldn't last 3 seasons with the style of play I saw in limited doses last night. If you can't slide you can't survive. The odds of finding a good QB are low. Need a bettter reason. I think its weird the two names that keep getting brought up are Vince Young and Johnny Manziel. Neither if those guys were talked up in the intangible department like Watson is. Its also easy to forget that at times, Vince Young WAS a tantalizing real life NFL QB, just a bit spotty and short lived. If VY is the bust side of Watson... that's not awful risk.

I was actually underwhelmed with Watson at times last night, but him QBing the Bears for the next decade is all I can think about now. Someone walk me off the ledge.

If Watson gets a 6 on the wonderlic, we definitely shouldn't draft him. In any round.

Doug Marrone sticking around in Jacksonville. This seems to make Bortles future a bit more secure, which is relevant since they'll be jumping ahead of the Bears in Rd 2 and 4.

I kind of like the Taylor idea, but I do think you are putting somewhat of a cap on your offense. That said, it should be a low turnover offense, so you just need to invest heavily in your D and try and win games that way. But you still have to find a way to put resources into your offense including a long term answer at QB.

Kelly had some pretty interesting criticism of Taylor that makes me wonder what they realistically want to replace them. Drafting someone at 10 has to be it right? Romo to Denver. Cutler to Arizona? Garrapolo maybe stays put.

I think he has 2/27 left on his deal (not guaranteed). So, yeah I'd think you'd need to guarantee him at least that much. I don't think he'd get quite what Osweiler got (4/72, 37M guaranteed). But I'm thinking 30M guaranteed and 15-16M average salary. 4-years/$63Mil, 32Mil guaranteed would probably get it done. Basically, that's committing to him for 2 years at a modest 16M each. Also, potentially allows him to be a FA before he turns 30, if he's gone after the guaranteed portion of his contract is over. Spotrac is saying that the extension still doesn't kick in until next year. He got some guaranteed upfront this year, then that full 30M extra guarantee is what is kicking in March 12 and has a hit through the next 5 years. If its less than Osweiler, with a structure thats front loaded like you propose, Id definitely be on board, but I think things could get silly on the open market quickly.

How much does Taylor get on the open market? Something similiar to his contract extension? 5/92 (15.5 guaranteed). AAV might be similar, but I'm guessing you are at least doubling the guaranteed money, right?

Heck... what QB in the NFL right now meet all 4? Russell Wilson? Some good QBs, apparently. Decided to look up a few guys at random and along with Wilson, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins and Dak Prescott met all 4. As redshirt juniors/academic seniors, I'd say Andrew Luck and Marcus Mariota fit the criteria too (they had the other 3). Tom Brady only went 2-for-4 and Jameis Winston went 1-for-4. When the top two QBs this decade go a combined 2-for-8 in this criteria, I'm not sure it should be used to prop up a guy in the top 3 who the so-called experts seem to think is a reach. And that doesn't even dig into the criteria of bad QBs who met all 4 (hey Matt Barkley!)

Thats asking a lot, but if its just a huge offseason/camp battle between him, Callahan, LeBlanc, and Porter, and we have a secure starter via FA opposite them, I'll feel pretty good about our CB situation for next year.

I don't even think Berry is a must as long as you get 1 of Gilmore or Johnson in FA. Then you go Hooker or Adams with the 3rd pick to pair with Amos. Our division kind of sucks and we have the tough divisions on our schedule next year I think. I think a division champ is actually the more likely road to the playoffs. Although this year was supposed to help us with a weak schedule, so what do I know.

You do not need two stud CBs. Thats a pretty unrealistic expectation. If we have two stud CBs and also get any decent depth on the front 7 we better have a top 3 D.

I would not boil it down to anything so simple. They need to add a few good players and probably at least one elite one. Where those players gets added has flexibility.

Doh. Definitely a lot of below average saw significant time. Little surprised at Porter being so low and then LeBlanc and Callahan. FA/Porter/LeBlanc/Callahan makes for a believably good CB-Nickle-Dime rotation. FA/Amos/Jones-Quartey is a believably good S rotation. Then you have a ton of 2nd or 3rd year guys who saw quality rotation time as depth. Theres some depth on the DL and edge too, but another elite player somewhere would be awesome.

http://imgur.com/a/VpfO0 The way people have talked about Amos taking a step back this year (locally in the media), I would've guessed he had graded out much worse. They loved him last year, too. Kind of a weird graphic. Its just the last game starters, which included at least one guy who was signed off the PS just a few weeks prior. Wonder how some more significant season long contributors graded.

Hey now, Better off Ted was legitimately amazing. Pushing Daisies was pretty darn good too. Well I certainly enjoyed them, but not sure they would have ended up being shows i watched every episode of jf they made a 6-9 year run. That list is pretty small for me (Lost, GoT, The Office, HIMYM, Mad Men, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock) and half of those are aided significantly by binge watching well after they had started. Other than HIMYM and the Office, those still fall below most shows that I actually watched every episode. Also, I probably watched every episode of Boy Meets World as a kid/teen and when I caught some old episodes later on, it was definitely a bad show, other than sone Feeney and Eric monents. But then I still inexplicably wanted to watch the first episode of Girl Meets World for nostalgia reasons.
