  1. You won't jinx it. We are going to make the playoffs. 99.5% chance. Thats about what our chances were of going to the Series after being up 3-1 on the Marlins in 2003 I looked and can't find what our % chance was after game 4, but I would bet that it was less than 99.5% Even weighting for pitching matchups, and home field, no more than 85%. What about in the 8th inning of Game 6 after the first out was recorded? What were our odds to make the WS then?
  2. 2-0 on a Fielder sac fly
  3. Milwaukee up 1-0, 2nd and 3rd with nobody out in the first
  4. Trying to come up with a list of Cubs MVP's usually results in a list of like 3/4 of the team. Pointless.
  5. ...but the Cardinals have been treading water for a while now and the Brewers have been trending upward. I could see his prediction coming through and don't think it's that far-fetched. Not necessarily likely, but not crazy either.
  6. I posted this in another thread, but whatever... They were saying on Mac, Jurko, & Harry yesterday that it's fair to start counting down the magic number at 30 (like in the papers and stuff like that). I actually saw a bar with the magic number out on their sign on Friday night. Personally, I think anything before 10-15 is too soon, but I know none of us are too experienced in actually having a decent lead in the division with a few weeks to go. Usually, when we do get to the playoffs, we pull ahead toward the end and never actually see the higher magic numbers. FWIW, it's presently at 31 for the division and 28 for the wild card.

  8. porn makes consistent contact with the ball and a decent amount of time the contact results in hits?
  9. For reference as to how awesome all-white would be, look no further back than the throwback game against the Braves. Main difference would be the logo and non-old-school pants/socks. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-06/39923969.jpg http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-06/39924060.jpg http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-06/39924057.jpg Awesome.
  10. I agree, too.
  11. I know you weren't. I was just pointing out that they are.
  12. They might win 100 games. If they do that and win the world series, they will be among a fairly large group of really really good champions. But I don't know about "over the top great". 100 wins, a run differential of near 200, and a championship would have to qualify in my book. Especially (but not limited to) within the context of what's being said in this thread...only an idiot would question that team's legitimacy as a deserving champion. This team is very good to great in every facet of the game. I don't know if you'd need them to challenge the win record or something to be considered "over the top great"...??
  13. Some hard-core Rich Harden love on SportsCenter today.
  14. How crazy is it that nobody has made the obligatory post about not talking about the World Series yet...
  15. FWIW, this team is over the top great. It'll take a WS trophy to cement it, though.
  16. ...and yea, as far as the "legitimacy" of it is concerned, I couldn't care less. I don't think beating the White Sox would lead to those kinds of issues, though, and it would, at the very least, shut up their fans.
  17. Honestly, the only "bad" team I could envision the Cubs playing in the World Series is the Rays, and that's because I hate watching baseball games played in crappy stadiums. Twins too, if they managed to make it. Obviously, if they get there I'm not really gonna care that much, but it would suck to finally get there and have to play in the SkyDome or Metrodome (or Tropicana) or something. Domes suck. I despise them. I think it would be pretty cool to play any of the other three teams for various reasons.
  18. I don't get the "nameless" fetish. How does that make them better? Agreed. I thought it was cool at first, but when the cubs rolled them out I really didn't like how they looked. For me, it was the opposite. I was a skeptic at first. Loved it when I actually saw it. I think the Cubs went back to names so they could sell a crapload of Soriano jerseys. Buying a generic 12 isn't the same to fans. If we're gonna get really into specifics, I wish our jerseys had the "blockier" numbers as opposed to the rounded out ones we have...but I really don't care that much. Just something I've noticed over the years. The different colored name/number aspect of the road jerseys is sort of unique. I wonder what they'd look like if they were uniform though.
  19. looks cleaner
  20. Honestly, I really don't care about the other ones. I just want the home jerseys stripeless and nameless. The current road jerseys are ugly as sin and anything would be an improvement.
  21. 8 of 30 is many? Also, the proposed "home alternate" is kinda ehhhh, one because it's just the current BP jersey with names, and two because jersey numbering should never be the same color as the jersey with only an outline to differentiate it, regardless of what the Braves and Angels want you to think. Yes, 8 of 30 is "many."
  22. I'd only re-sign Dempster to a very team friendly deal. Giving him a lot of money could turn out to be disastrous.
  23. A lot of people seem to be forgetting that it's a terrible idea to sign guys coming off career years to big contracts. Don't let emotions cloud your judgment. I don't expect Ryan Dempster to continue to be one of the top few pitchers in baseball. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
  24. pinstripes are lame and done by many teams
