  1. First of all, no. He really isn't in the top 5. He would have to have a HUGE month and a half to be under consideration for league MVP. Second of all, the reason people jumped all over what he said was that it was a bad point and an even worse way of arguing it, not because of any mob mentality.
  2. The reason team's don't have productive hitters up and down the lineup is that such hitters are scarce and teams can't afford to do that, not because there's a need for certain "roles" to be filled. An All-Star lineup, like, say... C-Soto, 1B-Pujols, 2B-Utley, SS-Ramirez, 3B-ARod, LF-Braun, CF-Hamilton, RF-Dunn... would easily score the most runs in the league and, given non-terrible pitching, would win a ton of games. There's no need for role-players. They're just there because a) great players are rare and b) teams can't afford to have great players at every position (the two go hand in hand, obviously).
  3. The hope is that he'll pitch well enough in relief in September that he'll be in the postseason bullpen instead of Howry.
  4. Especially the fact that it was the 2000 draft, which was notoriously bad. Aside from #1 pick Adrien Gonzalez, Adam Wainwright whao was like #28 or 29 was the only player in the 1st round of that draft whose made any kind of major league impact. IE Luis Montanez. Chase Utley was the Phillies 1st round pick in the 2000 draft. He turned out to be ok  OK, you have Adrian Gonzales at 1, Rocco Baldelli at 6, Utley at 15, and Wainwright at 29, but look at the rest of round 1 http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2000 Is that really that different from most drafts?
  5. time for a compromise: he should get consideration for left field MVP. are we all agreed? of the division? aw, hell.. not even... well, at least you gave it some consideration. that's all I was asking for that i did... i really did... i have nothing else better to do anyway.
  6. I couldn't help myself. Nono, not yours, his. Yea, but I opened it up for him to come back.

  8. I couldn't help myself.
  9. He's not even the most valuable player on the Cubs.
  10. he had already had three tommy john surgeries while he was in HS don't joke like this... there are too many people who will believe it.
  11. Make an argument for why he's been more valuable than Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman, Chipper Jones, or Hanley Ramirez. I should've just limited it to guys on good teams, because we know what his response to a couple of those names will be. Chipper Jones should be the MVP, I'm pretty sure the team has been awful without him in the lineup. touche
  12. i agree with you but at the same time, i can't help myself.

  14. i wish this thread would disappear so I could stop wanting to reply to stupid things said in it
  15. i bet if you asked a player and manager from every team, they'd offer support for soriano as MVP too. But none of it has any merit? I can't believe, with the numbers as plain as day as to what Sori brings to the team (Win/loss record, personal stats), you ignore them as nothing. WOW!! ok, you're obviously trolling because nobody can be this good at misunderstanding things. So why doesn't he deserve consideration then? Because he hasn't been nearly as valuable as few other players in his own division, much less the whole league?

  17. Berkman, Pujols, and Hanley Ramirez are all much more deserving candidates than Soriano Hell, there's people that won't even be in the conversation for MVP that would be better candidates.
  18. Outstanding logic  Comparing a pitcher to a position player. LOL. 48-15 with him, 28-33 without him. Nuff said. Yup. And he really sets the tone for the offense in those games. Like I said, outstanding logic. Who cares what he does to help the team, they are obviously 48-15 with him and a horrible 28-33 without him. Are you trying to tell me that there is more to a player's value than W/L record in games they appear in? I put his personal stats up as well. Of course, you choose to ignore them, so carry on with Marmol for MVP!! Wooo hooo! No I saw them but didn't feel they added to your argument. His projected 162 game HRs and RBIs? His relative place among leadoff hitters? And your RPG argument didn't really prove anything, since you chose to ignore several times my points about the fact that there were other factors at play besides Soriano being out. Hmmm, Piniella's and DeRo's comments weren't good enough for you either? I can find all kinds of quotes by major leaguers talking up crappy players (like Theriot talking about Neifi's greatness). Sorinao's a crappy player?? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! once again, no, that's not what he said at all and you missed the point completely
  19. Neifi saved us in 06.... Ask Dusty.
  20. i bet if you asked a player and manager from every team, they'd offer support for soriano as MVP too.
  21. Much shorter then that weak retort that you came up with. OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! sikk, sikk burn
  22. Zambrano should win MVP. Could you imagine his offensive numbers projected out for a full season? WOW
  23. They are beyond ridiculous. That said, take the numbers away and look at the record of the team. The Cubs are something like 26-28 this year when he was injured. They are a crazy 50-20 when he is in the lineup leading off. Len and Bob, if you are lurking, start the train rolling for Sori tonight on the air. Tell me exactly what you're trying to prove with this little tidbit, then.
  24. EVEN IF the discrepancies in the Cubs records with/without Soriano were SOLELY do to his presence/absence (which is completely and utterly absurd to suggest, might I add), do you not realize that that alone wouldn't be enough to make him the most valuable player? why, there's no telling what the Cardinals would do without Pujols, or the Brewers without Braun, or the Phillies without Utley, or the Astros without Berkman. I could go on.....
