  1. If he had gotten the tag on at all, he wouldn't have looked back to first.
  2. Plus the difference between facing those teams is probably pretty negligible over 21 games or so (however many non h2h games the two teams have)...
  3. I wonder how many people go out of their way to buy the road cap...
  4. Good news!
  5. And, as I said, they're 5.5 games behind (obviously). I just listed almost half of their remaining games, and in 6 of them (the ones vs. us), they have to play above .500 in to gain ANY ground.
  6. They have 3 with the Mets coming up, then 4 @ Philly a little later, and they also have to contend with us 6 times. All while having to make up a 5.5 game deficit (after tonight). Not all that easy. The collective record of their opponents is under .500. Ours is over. That's a pretty arbitrary method of distinction.

  8. that's really an odd thing to say when we had our biggest lead of the season yesterday morning #-o
  9. btw the Brewers have a tough matchup with NY coming up and they'll be in Philly in another week.
  10. lol didn't we gain like 2.5 or something in only a week prior to yesterday?
  11. You have to adjust to what the ump is calling. Can't just let him stand back there and call you out looking all freaking game long, even if they are bad calls. And give the pitcher his easy efficient outs all game because you're making weak contact on pitchers pitches? No, thank you. So, the K's aren't easy, efficient outs? Putting the ball in play will at least give the runners a chance at advancing (if there are runners on board). Its not about learning bad habits. Its about doing what it takes to give yourself a chance to win when the ump is giving the opposing pitchers calls in a certain area that isn't normally a strike. They're not hittable pitches. The Cubs approach still amounted to several scoring opportunities that just weren't cashed in. Had they given in to that crappy, inconsistent zone they likely wouldn't have even had those chances. And they likely wouldn't have forced the Phillies to throw 140 pitches. Swinging at bad pitches isn't a good approach EVER, even if the ump is calling more of them strikes than usual. It's not like those pitches had no chance of being called balls.
  12. what pissed me off more than usual about this game was the horrific umpiring. I felt like we didn't even have a chance in the 6th or 7th (whatever inning Soto and Soriano both K'd in after taking two outside pitches to fall behind 0-2) Plus who knows what might've happened if we have bases loaded w/one out when Lilly should've been called safe I also don't understand how Karros was insisting that Howard got him, even while explaining that his acting job was bad when he looked to first. Damn shameless 1bmen
  13. I would have hated to see you after the Victor Diaz loss, or the Playoff losses last year, or any of the number of losses the Cubs have suffered in agonizing fashion over the years. But, yeah, this was an aggravating loss, thanks to the horrendous umpiring, and the mid 90's Braves pitchers treatment Brett Myers received. you're seriously picking the wrong person to do this to I know you're level-headed. I read every game thread. It was just kind of a throw it out there comment, because I've wanted to throw stuff over losses much worse than this. gotcha. plus I was mostly kidding mostly. but i didn't actually throw a foam ball i threw a league ball j/k

But, yeah, this was an aggravating loss, thanks to the horrendous umpiring, and the mid 90's Braves pitchers treatment Brett Myers received. He's just pissed because we were only 3 wins away from seeing Len and Bob switch facial hair styles. Give him a break! Edit: Whoops, that joke was already made this thread. by me, no less.

  17. why develop bad habits by trying to swing at bad pitches all games just cause the ump has a crappy zone?
  18. that they should swing at it and make weak contact? screw that. Your right, its much more graceful to stike out looking to end the game. or just hope that the ump gets his head out of his ass and makes the correct call *shrug*
  19. OMG STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE. YOU'RE RUINING THE GAME THREADS lol it's funny that you pick a complete joke post to do this on
  20. that they should swing at it and make weak contact? screw that.
  21. ok i threw a foam stress ball that didn't halp
  22. must control urge to throw something
  23. The ump didn't do him any favors. At least one AB he was instantly down 0-2 on two obvious balls.
  24. it's probably cause this was probably our last/best hope at seeing Kasper and Brenly trade facial hair
  25. I seriously want to throw something... I haven't felt this frustrated after a loss in years
