    In Matheny's years as manager he's benefited tremendously from the groundwork laid before him, but he is an awful on field manager. His apparent obstinance in the face of common sense is Dusty-esque. I thoroughly enjoyed him repeatedly going to lefties to face Rizzo in the playoffs last year in the face of every statistical indicator that it was a stupid idea. I'd still rather have him face a lefty if I were the opposition. The problem is that Siegrist is pretty terrible vs. lefties

    i guess hawk and stone were speaking (pretty glowingly) about the cubs last night (how many runs we score and how well we pitch) and stone matter of factly dropped in that we don't have a good defense. ha.

    Most of those teams were pre-playoffs. All you had to do was be the best in the league to make the world series. That's something the elite RD teams were very likely to do.
