  1. Meh. Our 2010 strikeout resulted in the best team we've seen since 1998. If you strike out in the lottery or with our pick, you are left with having a team you can't watch at all for more years than you already weren't. Yes it did because we had the MVP (deserved or not he was an elite superstar) and the role players we signed fit around that MVP. If we strike out in 2017 we have Jimmy Butler and marginal role players. what? butler isn't far off from what rose was (aside from age which obviously didn't wind up mattering since he had the knees of a 45 year old)...seems like a combination of rose being overrated and jimmy being underrated. especially once you factor in defense. i have no idea how your differentiating the 2010-11 role players from the theoretical ones signed next offseason.
  2. Gotta say, knowing how unlikely this is to work and all the times we've seen it fail, it's still a wayyy more likely path to a superstar than "blow it up and draft one." http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/what-exactly-are-the-bulls-doing-waiting-for-2017-or-bust/ Maybe, but I think its more likely to get at the very least a useful player with an inexpensive contract and years of control picking at the top of the draft. If you throw all your eggs into the FA basket and you don't have a sexy market or a team that is ready to contend, especially in the wild wild west that is FA with the cap exploding, you are far more likely to be used as leverage similar to what is happening to Dallas today with Whiteside, Conely and someone else whose name is eluding me, than you are to steal a superstar. If you strike out when you throw all your eggs into the FA basket, you are left with overpaying a role player to save face/hit salary floor. Meh. 3. This is a few days old, but: Gotta say, knowing how unlikely this is to work and all the times we've seen it fail, it's still a wayyy more likely path to a superstar than "blow it up and draft one." http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/what-exactly-are-the-bulls-doing-waiting-for-2017-or-bust/
  4. Heyward on deck. Whoops forgot about him That's because he's just high priced
  5. We're going to win this in some spectacular way and then in a few months we're gonna see peralta in some random celebration pic and wonder who the hell he is, just like soriano in the kB walkoff
  6. I doubt it. Our team is run by Theo Epstein.
  7. what the hell did you google that google didn't help you? http://bfy.tw/6XFx
  8. apparently the bone spurs bothered matz enough that he was going to have season ending surgery to remove them, but the Mets FO talked him out of it...
  9. Coghlan has struck out in 1/3 of his PA and has a 69% contact rate with the Cubs Yeah, I did a mini-double take at the "he's looked really good" part. He's looked like an oaf. His best contribution to anything has been his supporting role in your sig.
  10. I'm more worried about Murphy jumping Zobrist.
  11. For as long as Almora plays like he's played so far, he's an MLB asset and should stay, IMO. If/when he shows some sustained struggles, different story. Until then, I think Joe can get him enough looks.

  13. FWIW, what Almora has been so far would = about a 4 win player.
  14. Javy might be better currently, but Addison still has the higher ceiling. Javy hits lefties a lot better and is bad against righties, Addison hits righties better and is bad against lefties. Javy strikes out less (feels funny typing that), but Addison walks more. Both are very good fielders. They strangely compliment each other right now. Uh, no. Javy clearly has a higher upside. Although I think Russell IS the better player currently and maybe forever. But he can't touch Javy's upside. To me, the real question is whether Javy is a better defensive SS than Addy? I think I may have even saw a quote from Maddon yesterday basically saying that. I don't really think that's true unless you're defining upside as this pie in the sky type of thing where Baez can just suddenly change into a disciplined hitter...as much as I'd like to see it, I think it's extremely unlikely. And if that is how you're defining upside, you might as well say "but what if Russell developed 40 HR power??" Certainty matters, and there's a lot more certainty in Addison reaching more of his upside than the "upside" you're talking about with Javy.
  15. if javy baez had to hit righties more often, you wouldn't even be asking that question...which is sort of funny since addison hits like a blind guy with one hand tied behind his back against lefties.
  16. javy baez could be a monstrously valuable player somewhere down the line if the plate approach thing ever clicks for him
  17. i've been passively listening and i think coomer has described the rizzo HR 4 different isolated times in the last 10 minutes
  18. I thought it was awesome regardless of outcome
  19. By the way the horsefeathers that Joe pulled with the pitching was amazing
  20. Run differential game you assholes
  21. You are just embarrassing for a fan of the best team in baseball that has a double digit lead in the division in late June.
