  1. i certainly don't recall that storyline. yes, the story has always been about how great of shape he keeps himself in, but he always had. the breakout happened when he went back to his old delivery in 2014, that the orioles had tried to discourage. kyle said arreita needs to be "insanely athletic" to "command his stuff". it is dumb to insinuate this. of course i believe he benefits from being in great shape. he was last year and he is still in amazing shape this year (which leads me to ask why it was even brought up?). never in the history of baseball has there ever been a pitcher - especially a year after winning the Cy Young - given an accusation that maybe they need to be insanely athletic in order to command their pitches. and again, he appears to be in the same shape of last year. it was a weird and random accusation to his struggles that i called him on and there is LITERALLY no explanation to contradict that. your ranty crusade against his assertion is way more weird and random seeming
  2. i've had a lot of crap going on, especially during the holiday weekend, and i think this is the most i've watched of a game since the sunday night game vs pittsburgh so if you guys want to blame me...
  3. as far as benefitting from it offensively, no we don't. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d
  4. it just looks that way in hindsight walk through a casino a few times and see how often you'll see a streak of reds or blacks on the screen on a roulette table
  5. jesus christ why would you not let javy hit his 2 run dong
  6. I don't think I've watched an ASG since I was a teenager. I think the one where Sosa hit a million home runs at Miller Park the night before in the derby. Bring back PEDs please. ehhh...when the entire starting infield is cubs, i'm going to watch, no matter horsefeathering what (at least while they're in the game, but if i'm not doing anything else i'm not sure why i wouldn't have it on and at least passively watch)
  7. I don't think your larger point here is invalid, but Arrieta has always been in terrific shape. If anything, it's the mental side of the game that's been most attributed to him repeating his mechanics better. I specifically remember a national TV breakdown where they had some ex-pitcher talking about how hard it would be to get on top of the sinker from the position Arrieta throws it without being in utterly ridiculous shape. i mean what does that guy know (seriously though - most of those guys are morons so i wouldn't base my argument on that)
  8. this is going to bring us all the luck https://www.instagram.com/p/BHsRlXVDLTM/?taken-by=cubs
  9. lackey with some swag let's add some insurance please
  10. plz show correlation to insane athleticism. and no [expletive] colon and arrietta are different pitchers. you are indicating - based on your words - that he needs to be extremely athletic (by the way, is he not?) to "command" his stuff. it's unfounded, irrational, and dumb. just quit now. you are a smart (though often annoying) guy that made a stupid post with a dumb insinuation. just chalk it up as a loss and carry on. Last year, every scouting or pitching coach story about Arrieta's explosion into awesomeness came because he got himself into awesome shape, which let made it easier for him to control his explosive arm motion, which is where the awesome stuff comes from. Acting aghast at this is just making you look dumb. i certainly don't recall that storyline. yes, the story has always been about how great of shape he keeps himself in, but he always had. the breakout happened when he went back to his old delivery in 2014, that the orioles had tried to discourage.
  11. You see a lot of other pitchers throwing 95 mph slider? plz show correlation to insane athleticism. and no [expletive] colon and arrietta are different pitchers. you are indicating - based on your words - that he needs to be extremely athletic (by the way, is he not?) to "command" his stuff. it's unfounded, irrational, and dumb. just quit now. you are a smart (though often annoying) guy that made a stupid post with a dumb insinuation. just chalk it up as a loss and carry on. i don't think there's much of any reason to think that theory is some kind of crazy nonsense there might be something to it. i definitely don't understand the strong "unfounded, irrational, and dumb" over the top response.
  12. here's an example of what i was saying the other day...two out rally situations. i never think they're going to turn out well, whether you ask me today or whether you would've asked me when we were like 25-6 or whatever it was.
  13. The argument is that almost the entire lineup has gone to [expletive] in this stretch and that's not "regression to the mean." That's true, it's a bad stretch of play that is really not predictive of much going forward. Nor is it happening as a result in any way of the over performance early on, which is the real point. That's the gambler's fallacy part.
  14. Another person that has no idea what "literally" means. some people literally take the use of the word literally way too literally
  15. i'm mainly ok with it now that i realize lackey was up next.
  16. is mattress firm some kind of money laundering front? i am not exaggerating when i say there is a 5 block stretch in skokie with about 5 different locations.
  17. jesus...heyward absolutely scalded that ball
  18. So what was pitching way, way better than expected for most of the year? I guess you can say "well this is the true Cub rotation" if you're a glass half full of diarrhea type of guy. Kyle is 100% right and it's not even arguable. It takes every ounce of willpower I have not to point it out every time someone wrongly cites "regression to the mean."
  19. please stop giving shitty starlin castro all my credit
  20. 25-27 after a 27-8 start. OK you people have to be doing this as a bit at this point, right?
  21. I'm gonna try to shake things up and skip SSR's turn since he probably doesn't even realize it's his turn (does anyone know if Fred is ok?) 7.5 game lead going into the break (and 8 in the loss column) would be respectable. let's make it happen. we need lackey to take a bite out of the pirates. http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/730b4277f432e0ab182fc890e64777ece1ef2052/c=382-155-2910-2056&r=x404&c=534x401/local/-/media/2016/04/19/USATODAY/USATODAY/635966295164186981-USP-MLB-CHICAGO-CUBS-AT-ST-81326901.JPG faces this idiot we will dong him into bolivia
  22. it pains me that i agree with you this much even though i think the perception that players don't want to come here is a bit overblown...a lot of circumstances that would've been tough to overcome for any team have kept us from getting the big guys we've gone after. but yeah, i think it would help. wade is one of those guys around the league. I agree that actually landing a name for once looks good, but the bold part seems like nonsense. Whet the hell are they supposed to do to accomplish this? well yeah..i can't imagine what they'd do that they don't already do for any top tier players. i just hope it ends well and not in some nasty situation to perpetuate the (unfounded) narrative that we don't treat our guys well. reinsdorf is actually loyal to a fault. it's crazy how off base that whole storyline is.
