  1. maybe i'm too biased after watching all these young players pan out, but i don't trade eloy for a reliever. nope nope nope. so we can maybe have a half a percent better chance in the playoffs or something? nope. fully expect to be ridiculed too. even if we're making the argument there were a glaring hole in the bullpen that could prove fatal in the playoffs, crapshootiness be damned, there would have to be someone available to mitigate that hole who wouldn't cost any legit future value. kind of like yesterday's trade.
  2. i love our team [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Meh I would be more interested in Soler + prospects for Gray + Reddick. and then he can make for some depth in iowa
  4. something about the overcast-ness of the sky and the shadows reminded me of wrigley in sept/oct and i got really excited.

  6. And even without getting into specifics as far as his analysis of Schwarber as a player, the whole concept of a team that basically has a playoff berth etched in stone in July trading off future value in the name of maximizing playoff performance is really really silly.
  7. it's weird...now that the public is generally smarter about things (at least internet baseball fans) when it comes to baseball, the smart guys keep wanting to be contrarian so now they argue in favor of some dumb ass things.
  8. I may not be a smart guy but I think it's horsefeathering stupid and posted it in another thread. I don't understand how "smart" baseball guys can know the playoffs are a crapshoot and still think any move that requires a long term sacrifice of wins makes sense. The improvement in the odds in the playoffs for what even Miller and Chapman would bring is so damn marginal. It's like, most of the informed baseball public knows the playoffs are basically a roll of the dice...making moves that sacrifice the long term to secure a playoff berth makes a lot of sense. Making moves that do so in an effort to improve the chances of a team already virtually assured of a playoff berth will never make any sense to me and people talk about it all the time. People who understand the playoffs are a crapshoot. Thank god Theo and Jed obviously know this (as they've publicly said it many times). [tweet] [/tweet]

  10. Josh Reddick 2014 - 117 wRC+ 2015 - 117 wRC+ 2016 - 123 wRC+ CarGo 2014 - 83 wRC+ 2015 - 114 wRC+ 2016 - 124 wRC+ ???? both have had injury issues over the years, both are kinda iffy/not great in the outfield
  11. Who? Sorry for the confusion. Reddick. Reddick is a free agent after this season. Don't see how that'd be a fit at all.
  12. I guess I'd do that but it would bum me out to trade Soler for 3ish months of two guys who are good to very good but not great
  13. How about 3/5 Montero most of Arrieta's and Ross for Lester obv. Reddick has been a very good hitter the last two seasons. Could he be flipped to the Yankees for Miller and or Chapman? Who?
  14. I'd do that too. I'd rather it be Baez than Schwarb, if possible somehow, but I'd do it. I'd move either. Not to derail the thread, but my guess is Javy has more value than Kyle currently. Injury, plus positional issues for Kyle being the reasoning. Could just be me being a Javy mark too though. Although Law and the FG guys have sided that way too at different points this season. I'd move BOTH, plus Torres or Happ, plus Cease, if that's more than the other package I threw out. I love Sale. if that's true, http://gifsoup.com/view/939509/trading-places-o.gif SELL HIGH
  15. He's also a righteous dude.
  16. Reddick has been a really good hitter the last two years. His defense has graded out poorly in RF this year but I'm gonna hope that's an anomaly as he's been good to not too bad in the past. Would be a nice lefty bat to throw in the lineup.

  18. I mean, I get the desire for another left handed bat. But unless Contreras will be catching nearly full time, I will not be happy about the move. How about 3/5 Montero most of Arrieta's and Ross for Lester obv. Reddick has been a very good hitter the last two seasons.
  19. Deadline megathread is lame. We can devote a thread in the Transactions sub-forum to any individual rumor on a noteworthy guy. Reddick would be cool. I like that dude.
  20. I'd do that too. I'd rather it be Baez than Schwarb, if possible somehow, but I'd do it.
  21. get that pro cardinals crap out of here!! Not really pro-cardinals. Basically says it doesn't matter if they've been unlucky, regression to the mean isn't really going to help them at this point. Can't un-lose games. Just pointing out the oddity of the numbers. Still says they're a lot better than their record and have been unlucky.
  22. Good catch but I still want to talk about this lol I know it'd be insanely hard, especially with Reinsdorf doing a bad Mike Ilitch impression.
  23. [tweet] [/tweet] Elite pitcher, great contract (under contract through 2017 at a very reasonable $12M next year + two very reasonable team option years under $14M each)...Peripherals down a little this year but going by what was said going into spring training, that's by design, and the results are still very good. Is there a package we can put together, and is it a palatable one? I kinda want to get a feel for what the people smarter than me here think before I try to gauge the value. Sale would make our rotation so damn good.
