  1. If its Torres and Soler we better be getting more than just Chapman or we are getting majorly fleeced. name the last time theo epstein got majorly fleeced on a trade (without using hindsight - and even then all i can think of is ian stewart)
  2. Let me preface this that I feel as icky as many of you do about the off field stuff. That said, the idea of bringing Chapman into a 1 run game to finish off the NLCS just hit me and damn that feels nice.
  3. i don't think having a chapman "baseball" thread and a chapman off field issues thread is a bad idea, actually
  4. It's been expressed that a lot of people root for the jersey over the individual and lots of people had issues with Kane on the team. I don't think you're making the great point you think you are. Kane definitely seemed innocent to me after digging deep into his case. i think he did something bad, possibly something very bad, and then the victim's bat horsefeathers crazy mother saw that he was probably gonna get away with it and destroyed all of her daughter's credibility with the public.
  5. he originally was opposed to dusty keeping him a reliever, IIRC. i think he came to the big leagues with aspirations to start. he went into one of those years expected/expecting to start and dusty was like "nope, he's too good down there" i can't remember what year that was but we all made fun of dusty for it.
  6. the only thing that gives me hope that they won't exclusively name anyone "closer" if/when this goes down is that they would be acquiring (and paying up for) this guy and then, if we're really rolling again, just playing horsefeathers the closer with him for 2 months. like, i'd like to see him come in to a key spot in the seventh inning, if called for. i have hope that this manager and FO would actually do that, even though they didn't usually with rondon.
  7. good lord he isn't going to be a playoff starter
  8. i wonder if we'd have the balls to try him as a starter next year (although he's really really good and valuable doing what he does already)
  9. even with the rumored 4/60 extension? Ignoring the morality of the situation for the moment... I don't see the 4/60 extension as adding significant value to the deal. 4/60 is more or less market value. And while the certainty of having him under contract for that without duking it out for his services is worth something, I don't see it as adding enough to tip the scales. If it was something like 3/40 with a vesting 4th year based on appearances, maybe that would add enough value to get me over the hump. i think he's worth more than his WAR total (which is already really high for a reliever) would suggest when you consider that he is as dominant as he is and you can pick and choose and put him in your highest leverage situations, thus adding a lot of win probability. 4/60 would be his value without even taking that into account.
  10. official MLB account is reporting it [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. oh what the hell you horsefeathering weirdo
  12. even with the rumored 4/60 extension?
  13. whoa whoa whoa on including wood with that group beep, beep, beep, back the truck up
  14. Timely hitting isn't something you build a roster for. It's just luck, for lack of a better term. Well timed hits.
  15. Are you a Bears fan? Or rather, were you a Bears fan after they signed Ray McDonald? Honest question. I'd imagine if we complete this deal, same thing applies. He messes up in the slightest bit and he's gone. Brandon Marshall is a better example...most of us LOVED him (when he was good at football).
  16. There was a story going back to the early 90's, I think, of him hitting his wife over the head with a rum bottle or something like that. Who knows how legit it was.
  17. I don't have any issue with what you're saying or how you feel, but how did you feel about Starlin Castro?
  18. It made me legit sad to see Cubs wives tweeting about "trade deadline excitement" tbh
  19. I'd be annoyed if we paid up to rent the most dominant reliever in existence and then wasted him as a closer but i could totally see that being the likely thing.
  20. As soon as I said I noticed zobrist sucking, he picked it back up.
  21. Seal boy! But how does scissors not score. He's fast.
