  1. Ok. There's also been rumors about Warren and Candelario that have been shot down. Plenty of crazy rumors out there. I just think she gets a lot of unfair criticism. A lot of the criticism she gets is unfair, but that doesn't change the fact that she's objectively bad. 100% this.
  2. Eh, I don't remember seeing another one with Soler attached, other than hers to begin with. Ok. There's also been rumors about Warren and Candelario that have been shot down. Plenty of crazy rumors out there. I just think she gets a lot of unfair criticism. The NY Post gets criticism too.
  3. Yankees fans are morons. They are getting potentially the next Jeter and at least the next Castro for 2 months of a wife beater. Pretty good return. uhhhhhhhhhhhh what?
  4. in case anybody was still worried about this [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. Wasn't that changed? Yes. 4 years ago.
  6. i'm far too lazy to look it up, but i think that regular season bullpen quality was one of the few things that was correlated with winning in the playoffs. with lackey, arrieta and lester struggling recently, and hendricks not really a guy who goes deep into ballgames, the ability to put the boot down with three very good to elite arms from the 7th inning onward is extremely valuable. the cubs are also extremely deep in hitting, and torres is almost certainly going to be blocked by some combination of russell, zobrist, happ and baez by the time he's major league ready. the only part that really annoys me is that if you're okay trading for a butthole like chapman, then do it in the offseason when his value was really low. the package the yankees gave up to get him was relatively weak, and now they're getting back a top 50 prospect for 3 months of him. but really, nothing has changed. he's still an amazing pitcher and he's still a guy who beat his wife. i think a lot of attempts have been made to find things that translate into postseason success (the secret sauce, bullpens now, starting pitching, etc) and i'm at the point where i think attempting to do so is attempting to prove bigfoot exists.
  7. it's not about not trading torres ever. it's about getting more for torres.

  9. But if he believes the playoffs are a crapshoot, Chapman raises the chances of winning by like 2 percent. If that. using that logic, very good teams should practically never make trades at the deadline for players who will be free agents at the end of the season. i pretty much agree with that logic as long as they aren't in a remotely tight race. deadline deals are about securing playoff berths. making them for the playoffs themselves is, in reality, pretty silly. i can see it making sense if you're, say, upgrading your #2 starter from like jason hammel to jose fernandez, but that's about it. and most of the time such a team (with jason hammel as their #2) probably needs the help to get in to the playoffs to begin with.
  10. Of course he believes it. He's been talking since day one about the only way to win a world series being to make the playoffs consistently. Agreed. So why is he doing this? I can't figure it out. Well, for one thing, he isn't doing/hasn't done anything yet, so why not wait until he actually makes that trade without the extension before you ask that?
  11. There's no such thing as a final piece to a World Series puzzle. I see Torres as almost entirely as a trade chip. Never pictured him playing for us really. But given his standing, he should be able to get us more than a rental on a (an insanely good one) reliever. If Theo does this without an extension, does that mean he doesn't buy the theory that the playoffs are a total crapshoot or that he doesn't want to assume we are in the playoffs? What would be his motivation? Of course he believes it. He's been talking since day one about the only way to win a world series being to make the playoffs consistently.

  13. based on what? 1. That I'm a worrier. 2. Do extensions like this every happen at the deadline? 3. If he is willing to sign for 4/60, wouldn't the Yanks just keep him and extend him themselves? because maybe he isn't willing to sign with the yankees 4/60, or maybe the yankees don't want to invest that kind of money in a reliever when they have andrew miller and betances, or maybe the yankees would rather have gleyber torres
  14. my issue with giving up torres (if it's only a rental) is not that we don't keep torres...it's that we don't get more than 2 months of chapman for him but if we extend him i'm good i seriously couldnt care less well we should be able to get more for torres than two months + playoffs of chapman. period.

  16. [tweet]https://twitter.com/JulieDiCaro/status/757388098334560257[/tweet] amazing that she heard that, which is drastically different than everything she was reporting hearing, after sharma put out his tweet
  17. as in you somehow managed to avoid knowing that story entirely?
  18. If its Torres and Soler we better be getting more than just Chapman or we are getting majorly fleeced. name the last time theo epstein got majorly fleeced on a trade (without using hindsight - and even then all i can think of is ian stewart)
  19. Let me preface this that I feel as icky as many of you do about the off field stuff. That said, the idea of bringing Chapman into a 1 run game to finish off the NLCS just hit me and damn that feels nice.
  20. i don't think having a chapman "baseball" thread and a chapman off field issues thread is a bad idea, actually
  21. It's been expressed that a lot of people root for the jersey over the individual and lots of people had issues with Kane on the team. I don't think you're making the great point you think you are. Kane definitely seemed innocent to me after digging deep into his case. i think he did something bad, possibly something very bad, and then the victim's bat horsefeathers crazy mother saw that he was probably gonna get away with it and destroyed all of her daughter's credibility with the public.
  22. he originally was opposed to dusty keeping him a reliever, IIRC. i think he came to the big leagues with aspirations to start. he went into one of those years expected/expecting to start and dusty was like "nope, he's too good down there" i can't remember what year that was but we all made fun of dusty for it.
