  1. seeing how we're reacting to this trade, i can only imagine how i would've felt about giving up what beane gave up for shark and hammel and then still needing to go out and get lester because hammel sucked so bad.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet] mckinney is another guy i'm not crazy about at this point (i don't think many are) but who i would've much preferred to keep the powder dry on in a package for someone else. were the yankees really gonna get a better return than just gleyber from someone else? yeesh.
  3. I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in. you seem to be thinking of it as a straight up coin flip where talent doesn't matter at all, just luck. it's true that playoff series do not always end with the "best" team winning or team with the best record, but your odds of winning any game increase when you better the talent you have. you add talent to better your record from year to year, you add talent to improve your chances of winning in the playoffs. it's not rocket surgery. it's weighted by talent, sure, but when you're talking about a field of only playoff teams, the gaps aren't nearly enough to mean much. the cubs could trade for chapman, miller, fernandez, and sale for this year and you'd still be optimistic in saying they'd not win the world series 3/4 times.
  4. I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in. Not all crapshoot believers toe the company line. You build a team to give you as many chances at making the playoffs as possible. But you also go all in when you feel good about your chances. Theo's done plenty of this in his career. I'm not sure he's done it to this extent, but I'm also not sure he's acquired a player as dominant at what he does as Chapman at a deadline before.
  5. are you still trying to figure out why we would want to trade for an elite relief pitcher??? I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in. Yeah, TBH, this still confuses me. But it's not about Gleyber's future value to us so much as it is the fact that he could possibly fill a far more pressing need in the future, like if, say, next year we don't have a playoff berth locked down in May and we need to make a trade to help secure one.
  6. i just remember the absurdity of it potentially not even being cold enough for winter games, the stray dog snipers, the bathrooms with unfinished plumbing, toilets with no stalls, etc.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] funny that jesse had to clear that up.
  8. Heyman gonna Heyman. Does he ever break anything at all on his own?
  9. Almora has fewer games and plate appearances than Joey Gallo, who was on prospect lists going into this season and has only one MLB PA this year. Contreras is still below the threshold for rookie status (which I think is enough to make him qualify as a "prospect" but I'm not positive if the criteria differs at all), though he won't be for long. It is the days for Almora. I'm going to update the NSB ranking page after the deadline and ask people to update their lists (or enter one for the first time). Well that's way harder to figure out so not my fault :-"
  10. I've said it before, but my issue isn't being upset with losing a good single A player so much as thinking we can/should be able to get more for him. But given our roster construction, maybe we can't get something more impactful. The only better thing might be upgrading one of the rotation spots, and doing something worthwhile there seems even more prohibitively expensive. And it looks like this is what the market is. Theo definitely knows better than we do.
  11. I'm pretty sure Contreras still counts as a prospect, so he's #1. I'd personally have Eloy #2, and I'm not convinced Almora isn't #3, given that he's shown himself capable of being a (little bit) above average MLB regular over a decent sample size without any crazy BABIPing or anything and he's still only 22. That's also just me not being very high on Gleyber to begin with, though. As much as that can be said for a 19 year old MIF hitting well in A+. Pretty sure Contreras and Almora have graduated. I can't remember who got called up first but I remember reading that Almora graduated right before going back down.
  12. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/02/04/journalists-at-sochi-are-live-tweeting-their-hilarious-and-gross-hotel-experiences/ I'm confused...is there stuff before Sochi here?
  13. were they this much of a mess before sochi? i don't remember hearing about things being this disastrously bad before that.
  14. He's not our #1 prospect. Not in reality. He's in a cluster with 2 others who are pretty close to each other. Fine call him a top 30 prospect I'm pretty sure Contreras still counts as a prospect, so he's #1.
  15. I'm on the fence but I lean that way. I trust Theo 100% so I'll trust their internal evaluations over anything I can come up with. It'd be different if I felt our FO was at all incompetent.
  16. Probably cause it's not. The talking heads are all over the place and have no clue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk They're not really all over the place. They're pretty consistent at this point in that Torres is the main piece and only Chapman is coming back. Also seems like Warren is definitely one of the players.
  17. He's not our #1 prospect. Not in reality.
  18. The Warren and Candelario nonsense came from the Post. Rosenthal just said "maybe" on Warren. We don't know enough about any of this to criticize any reporting, imo. Blind squirrel, meet nut. Educated guesses can easily come true in these situations. That possibility doesn't take a lot of dot connecting.
  19. Yes. And her takes are bad on the radio too. I don't think I'm being unfair here. I criticize most of those radio people for their shitty takes. Kaplan, Rozner, Abbatacola, DiCaro, whoever.
  20. The NY Post gets criticism too. Uh, ok. Not really relevant, but neat. The Warren and Candelario nonsense came from the Post.
