  1. pretty sure a good FO could put together a consistent winner there (or anywhere). theo would figure that horsefeathers out.
  2. Well, that was pretty much everything I wanted to say in the Contreras piece I was planning. What's the disconnect on those numbers from his -0.1 defensive rating that's going into his WAR calculation? For catchers with at least 190 PAs (to get his 196), only Flowers, Gattis, and Montero are worse (32 total). That is largely a result of his 164 innings that have graded out poorly at a non-premium position (LF, where he has a -19.6 UZR/150). Bad grade at bad position = poor defensive WAR number. Further, I don't believe FG is incorporating any sort of pitch framing gain into WAR as of yet.
  3. i heard rozner talking out of his ass yesterday about how willson was completely lost and a mess behind the plate when he first came up. yep, i'm sure he went from "completely lost" to this in a few weeks. (mind you, i'm not saying he hasn't improved with major league instruction - i'm saying he wasn't anything resembling a disaster)
  4. is he sitting down or standing completely still or something? Playing catch is a different and lesser strain on the legs than pitching. Playing catch to keep the arm loose doesn't necessarily mean that the leg is ahead of schedule. I never meant to imply otherwise. The report itself is where the nugget that they are optimistic about it being closer to 4 weeks than 6 came from. It wasn't an inference by me.
  5. Though, he injured his leg, not his arm. is he sitting down or standing completely still or something?
  6. Did anyone see that Strop is already playing catch, btw? Heard it yesterday on the radio. Sounds like it might be closer to the 4 week than the 6 week timeframe.
  7. i liked this for reasons other than the one it was posted for [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. Offense looks pretty good
  9. Byproduct of having such predictable pitch selection?
  10. I think coomer just said when a guy has those two words at the end of his name, "S-Y" you'd think he'd get that call
  11. Lol this damn team. Is this more dominant than the first 5-6 weeks?
  12. Did that really just happen? How the horsefeathers? What is this guy's deal?
  13. Bums me out that it's almost certainly without sexy sexy tho
  14. Ahhh yes. I think that if we got to face the bottom feeder teams, this team would be good enough to break the playoffs crapshoot and win the world series three majority of the time, which is saying something, believe it or not
  15. Jeez Addy was so close to regaining the RBI lead

  17. Malls are at least temporarily outdated, no? Look at the non-established guys as prospects who just happen to be past rookie eligibility. The goal isn't just to graduate, but to help the Cubs dominate. Seems like playing the matchups like Joe has they have helped the Cubs dominate quite a bit. I don't see why there's any urgency to move away from the way the positions have been handled this year.
  18. I said before I think his likely path is Soriano with worse defense, baserunning and nagging injuries. Not without his value, but that's a whole lot of "ehhhhhh" when people start talking like he's looking like another can't-miss young player. Given the [expletive] pitching FA market and how old (and, quite frankly, REALLY lucky in terms of injuries) the Cubs' starting rotation is, using him as part of a deal to try and bolster that area doesn't seem like the worst idea. Hitting Soler is fun, but minus the NL looking like it's going to get the DH soon, I would mind at all if they opt to trade him if it looks like his value is back up to the point he nets something very good in return. I mean, I look at it as win-win either way. How is this a response to what you quoted?
  19. Regardless of Soler (or Baez) can we all go back to LLF implying that "a young cost effective Soriano" is something not insanely valuable that you would do everything in your power to have around and/or keep?
  20. #keepthemall
  21. Barely. And his D and injuries likely will preclude him from becoming anything more than an average starter. But if he plays well the rest of the season, he's a damn good trade piece, considering he's not even a true starter for us. So he's a young, cost effective, Alfonso Soriano. If we could finagle a young SP out of that (Rays, Indians, I'm looking in your direction,) I'd be all about it. I don't know what is worst about this post, but I'll start with IF he were a young cost effective Alfonso Soriano, this is something you'd be happy to move? (particularly for a horsefeathering pitcher?)

  24. The numbers are pretty good. I'm going off B-R for WAR because Fangraphs is inexplicably down (NL ranks) BA: 19th OBP: 5th SLG: 2nd OPS: 2nd HR: 7th RBI: 3rd 2B: 1st BB: 6th WAR: 2nd (4.7 behind KB's 5.5) The only major issues are that I think defensive WAR is underrated him (just IMO from watching him every day), and the fact that he has a teammate who is also a major MVP candidate. UZR has him as the 5th best fielding 1B http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=24,d What you're seeing in defensive WAR is the positional adjustment, but among 1B he's highly rated.
  25. stupid grote had me thinking that'd be in play run(s) and possibly even a dong
