apparently gordo gave maddon a pretty hard time on the conference call about all the firings after they implied that all/most coaches would be back and things got contentious.
the new hirings being announced today has me a *little* concerned about why hickey isn't one of them yet...i figured it was just a formality. maybe just as simple as both sides wanting to explore all options. edit - levine just said it's between hickey and maddux, and that hickey is down to giants and cubs.
It definitely was not necessary, but I can buy the idea that some new voices might be a net positive. without being involved directly, i can't say it definitely was not necessary. only the people around those relationships really know that.
on one hand, i'm not sure that any of this was necessary on the other, it's kind of crazy that we're at the point where a 3rd straight NLCS appearance for the chicago cubs has resulted in a coaching staff housecleaning.
i could've sworn i heard some comments from loggains about giving him the bye to get ready or something like that. didn't make it sound like he'd be active this week.
Weird.... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2738334-todd-frazier-says-yankees-game-5-win-vs-indians-was-for-joe-girardi Of course that's 1 player and it sort of implies other people shared the same sentiment as Frazier. 1 player who has been there like 2 months but yeah, the report i heard explicitly cited that whole "team rallied around girardi and wanted to win for him" as being vastly overblown
