yeah i don't really care about leaving money for a midseason acquisition. if you can get the better player all year, i think that outweighs the benefit of possibly being able to fill a hole that might be created by injury or underperformance later on.

at least this helped me confirm how i really feel about a possible arrieta return bc mully and hanley did a fakeout, saying something like... "we have some breaking news from jon heyman...the cubs have done it. you've got your pitcher...they're bringing back..." and i was like ah horsefeathers.

Also, I'll regret trading Eloy if (and only if) he actually turns into something. Eloy is gonna be a stud and it’ll be regrettable if Q is a 4/5 and doesn’t stay healthy. How do the Cubs have Quintana for “twice as long”? Good thing he's never been a 4/5 nor had health issues

That guy writes for Fangraphs. fangraphs and BP (especially the locals) can have some pretty questionable contributors. not sure why they're letting the viva el birdos guy write for them but that's a diff conversation.

if those were the bears' coordinator hires i'd be ready to jump off a building as a fan The OC has been in the NFL since 2008, with one year in the middle working at Alabama. The bears OC has zero NFL experience and was in a broadcast booth last year. They are at least on similar ground. i think college HC and coordinator (particularly in one of the more innovative offensive systems around) is a much stronger resume than the entry level assistant roles this peetz dude has held for most of that time...he just this season made it as high as qb coach. not to mention the first few years of that was in a scouting capacity. if it's true, i can't help but think it adds some credence to the idea that mcdaniels is a jag that nobody (players or coaches) would like working with.
