    It's a good hire but I don't anticipate him doing a much better job than what Shurmur did last year with Keenum, so whatever. Would've been nice if they got stuck with someone worse, though.

    you wouldn't be surprised if the colts are one of the better AFC teams? i'd consider that pretty shocking, even by NFL standards.

    why would you think, with the amount of money the cubs have to spend and the one obvious area for improvement, that they would merely be faking interest in the best available solution to fill that spot? Not faking. Just not nearly interested enough to give Yu market value. I think they got more involved when it looked like they could get him a lot cheaper than what the market suggested, but it's going to be on their terms. If they really wanted him that bad, they would have him by now and wouldn't competing against the Twins and Brewers for him. I've thought all along we are still getting Cobb when somebody else finally gives Yu a contract more in line with expectations. ETA: Plus, they are signing Bryce Harper next year and I still think they are going to be somewhat responsible with the other contracts they give out during this time. they just know they have leverage if their only real competition are those teams right now and are using it the only "somewhat responsible" that i'd expect guns blazing theo epstein to be is being cognizant of the tax implications...i don't see any reason they wouldn't (essentially) max out what they can spend with regard to the tax

    the brewers insider guy did say something to the effect of the brewers having upped their offer to match (or perhaps marginally exceed) ours and no, it doesn't mean that.

    I mean, there's a lot more of them in Illinois. This is kind of a dumb point that I've been seeing made on Twitter, too. It's not going to work to any degree that really matters (their park will still appear flooded with opposing fans to a comical degree), regardless, because this is only for a presale and because there's still a secondary market, but this ploy will probably result in some amount of Brewer fans going that otherwise wouldn't have, both in the attention it's bringing and the fact that they're preemptively selling to WI only residents. The fact that there are still Cubs fans in WI doesn't change the fact that they've eliminated most of them from being eligible to pre-buy. I honestly think there’s probably just as many Cubs fans as Brewer fans in Wisconsin, or at least ones in the pool that actually go and buy tickets for games. Just in my city alone my friend/family group is split if not leaning Cubs fans and around town I will see just as much Cubs gear as Brewer gear. Also there are a ton of Cubs fans south and southwest of Milwaukee. There are still a ton more in Illinois. And it's not just people in Lake County and northern Cook making the drive up there.

    I regret nothing. I’d trade Jorge Soler 2.0 for Jon Lester 2.0 (at a discounted, controlled rate) every time I agree, I did not and do not regret the Quintana deal at all. The point was the White Sox made an absolutely horrific deal and they got James Shields who was getting paid 20M a year on top of it. Why don't I just point out that we have 3+ years of Jose Quintana, instead?

    where is our above average defense in CF coming from? (obviously agree with the gist of the post) Didn’t Happ actually grade out decently there last year (better than Almora, iirc)? he did, but i'm not buying into him as a plus CF.

    Well yeah, Schwarber is going to be so bad in the least important defensive position that he's going to bring down the above average defense we have at C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CF, and RF. That's just horsefeathering science. where is our above average defense in CF coming from? (obviously agree with the gist of the post)

    PECOTA has the Cubs at 89 right now...they have the Dodgers at 99 (Brewers and Cardinals at 83 and 84, respectively). [tweet] [/tweet] Oher than LA, only the Cubs and Nats in the NL at 89 or better, while the AL has the Astros at 99, Indians at 97, and Yankees (?!) at 96. Seems pretty wonky.
