  1. Dodgers have 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 10th, FYI.. EDIT - bases loaded now
  2. GNR in the background.. Take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty...
  3. Yea... oh, well.. LOL I say 4 runs should still be a save opportunity! After all, you can get 4 runs off one swing. That should be the cutoff point, if you ask me..
  4. That makes for some list.. Let's see.. Rey Sanchez, Todd Haney, Jose Hernandez, Jason Maxwell, Mickey Morandini, Chad Meyers, Eric Young.. Hill, Grudz.. Any others who have spent time at 2B? I know I don't have anywhere near all of them.. Heh, that's as far back as I can go.. I started watching in 95 at age 12, so that's all I can remember first hand..

  6. Have I mentioned that I don't like Burnitz hitting 4th at all? Not that his contribution hasn't been solid, but ARam should always hit cleanup...
  7. I think we need to start the Todd Walker BandWGN back up just in appreciation of his awesome-ness. T-Walk and ARam are by far my favorite players. No doubt, D-Lee is the best, but not my favorite.. D-LEE with another hit! :D
  8. You're not the only one. For some reason that incredible guitar solo at the end of November Rain by Guns N' Roses popped into my head upon reading this. Nothing lasts forever, even cold november rain... I always liked Estranged better. 14 Years was played non-stop in 2003 after the Cubs won the NL Central. And now it's been 14 years of silence and pain since Guns N' Roses released any real new material.. (The Spaghetti Incident? doesn't count)... As for Estranged, I like that whole trilogy (Don't Cry, NR, and Estranged)... actually, I like almost their entire catalogue..

  10. in the baseball offseason? they show the Bulls. College basketball I buy, the Bulls and the NBA? That's not a sport. Funny how two people can have such different perspectives. My feelings are the exact opposite.
  11. Yea, it's not like they've made big moves at the deadline the last couple of years while in similar positions. Not trying at all to be a jerk. I just think that you made an inaccurate statement.
  12. Doesn't Freel have a foot injury that has the word "degenerative" thrown around when describing it? Actually, Freel called it his "degenerate toe" Maybe it was picking on handicapped kids or something. This made me LOL..
  13. Amazing that they could still maintain an overall winning record after around 30 years with no back-to-back winning seasons.. :)
  14. I'll never understand why people always assume we're going to lose players all the time. We aren't a small-market team here. If we (er, the Cubs) want to keep a player, we will. Ala D-Lee, Nomar, Sammy, Walker, ARam, Wood, and on and on. This isn't 1992 and Greg Maddux anymore. Plus, like everyone else said, Dunn isn't a free agent for another couple years.
  15. No, not Preston. He was already traded to the Nats, thank God. :D I mentioned this in the game thread...I'm not sure if anyone has thrown Craig Wilson's name out there as an option for LF. His defense can't be much worse than Dunn's (who, admittedly, I would much rather have). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=6642 His power numbers are down a bit this year, but that would seem to be an aberration. And his OBP has always been pretty good, (great this year). Of course, it all depends on his contract situation. If his contract situation is favorable to us, maybe we could get him without having to give up too much. Just figured I'd throw it out there if it hasn't been talked about already. (If it has been, shame on me for not searching).
  16. One of the few comments Chip Caray made that I ever agreed with was that Craig Wilson is Kerry's identical twin. Not as much anymore without the goatee, but still. Has anyone mentioned Craig as an option for LF from our AAA team from Pittsburgh? And is there any reason why he wouldn't be shopped? What's his contract status?
  17. No, I don't think he would have made it. It wasn't particularly close. Great first pitch outs morons. You're right. It's still a really stupid move, though. Great... Castillo HR, and the opposition strikes first, yet again.
  18. These are the Cubs we know. What's that, 2, 3 pitches? 2 outs. EDIT - make that 3 outs.. on 4 pitches.. WTH IS WRONG WITH THEM??? :x
  19. Think he might've made it if he hadn't tried to dive into first?
  20. Well, I do see your point. But I think the responsibility of ownership is basically to provide a nice payroll, and to hire someone competent to run the baseball team. Now, I can't and won't defend those signings. But I think most people would say that, overall, Hendry has done a good job running the Cubs. Others think that he hasn't, and they certainly can bring up valid points to back it up. But they have a guy, who in most baseball circles, would be considered successful. So to me, that shows that the ownership isn't a problem for this team. I think they've held up their end of the deal. Yeah, I understand what ya'll are talking abou the ownership. I just kept thinking that the GM position is part of the ownership, or at least a share, but I got that mixed up. There's nothing I can do about the signings. However, as a fan, the majority of the signings I won't complain too much. It's just that I don't see a logical reason to keep Macias, Wilson (before he was gone), and some others. I agree that JH has done a good job running the Cubs. Believe me, it could have been worse, like the GM for the Mets that one time before he got canned (Can't remember his name, but IIRC, he hasn't gotten any offers since he got canned.) I'm not sure if you're referring to Ed Lynch, former Cubs GM who, I believe, played and may have worked in the front office with the Mets, or Steve Phillips, former Mets GM. I'm guessing it's one of the two though... Speaking of Ed Lynch, I remember him being retained after his firing (er, demotion, I guess) as a scout or something. Anyone know if he is still in the organization?
  21. My dream scenario... Cuban buys the team and hires Billy Beane as GM. With Theo Epstein (despite all the naysayers who have ridiculed him at times) we've all seen what an intelligent, numbers-savvy GM can do with a really high payroll. And we really don't need that many pieces to be a dominant team. We've got a good foundation, IMHO.
  22. Don't most gloves have this? Mine does, and it's an outfielder's glove.
  23. ahhhh... tying run at the plate... 'tis ok.. I feel good about it. I'm actually confident in save situations with Demp out there.
