  1. If you can get the same production out of Cedeno as you would Neifi (and I happen to think there's a VERY good possibility that Ronny could outproduce him), why on earth wouldn't you play the younger player who may have a future on your team over a mediocre (if that) major leaguer?
  2. I really have to take issue with the people that say Neifi is the worst offensive player in recent baseball history... Rey Ordonez, anyone? Not so funny is the fact that both have hit at the top of our order in the last couple of years.
  3. We under appreciate Neifi. He's a career sub who has filled in admirably. Let's not have short memories, Neifi and DLee were carrying the offense when Aramis and Corey were automatic outs early in the season. Without going into the same debate again, I'll have to strongly disagree. Neifi did well in April, but he's regressed to his career numbers, which I don't want on the roster at all. Nonsense. Since May 1: .241/.261/.337/.598 Who's been worse? I dont get your point. There was little alternative. Instead of picking out Neifi's May stats I think its much more appropriate to point out others, on the team, that are being paid to hit for average and drive in runs. Aramis had a horrible start to the season and so did Barrett. Plus, Todd Walker's bat was also out of the lineup which compounded the problem. The bottom line is, Neifi Perez isn't paid to get the big hits. There is no reason to be angry with him. However, one could take issue with Dusty keeping him at the top of the lineup once he started to struggle. Paging Ronny Cedeno...?? Oh.. and you hit the nail on the head on that last point. I'm not mad at Neifi. He seems like a good guy, from what I've seen. My issue is with Dusty playing Neifi, and letting poor Ronny C, who might actually have a future in the major leagues, rot on the bench.
  4. Maybe Demp is out there hitting golf balls..
  5. The argument defending Neifi is nonsense... It doesn't matter that he had a good month or two! In the months he was complete garbage he hurt us just as much (if not more) as he helped us in the months he was good. What it all boils down to is .265/.286/.378 for the season, which is below his career averages and is horrid. Numbers like that are a detriment to an offense, no matter how much you try to put a spin on it. You can't overlook the time he has sucked just like you can't overlook the time he was out-of-his-mind HOT.. EDIT - in response to the best backup infielder comment... On the Cubs alone, I wouldn't put it past Ronny Cedeno to perform better than Neifi Perez.
  6. AC = "Anno Catuli" which is Latin for "Year of our Cubs" the first two digits (should be 01) are the number of years since we won the division (last time was in 2003) the second set of digits (60) is the number of years since we've won the pennant (i.e. gone to the world series). the last set of digits (97) is the number of years since we've won the World Series. I always thought the AC was "After Championship" and then there was the Eamus Catuli sign which was Latin for "Go little bears" or something like that... Guess it could be either one..
  7. Well, I mean.. so many games left with the Cards... If we sweep... Ah, hell.. nevermind. Wild Card it is..
  8. Actually, it is Pair-ez. At least that's the way they pronounce it here, where it's 80% hispanic. It's definitely PER-ez (emphasis on the first syllable)... Same with CHA-vez.. That one also gets butchered all the time... Even Eric Chavez thinks it's pronounced Cha-VEZ... ah, well... We've had this convo before, lol.
  9. I'm guessing he was past his prime and they dumped him off at the end of his career... But what do I know? I wasn't born till 1983... This reminds me of that commercial with Santo and Grace, circa 1995.. One of the "Cubs - We're working on it," commercials... They talk about the good old days at the ballpark.. Hot dogs.. Ron Santo pizza in a box.. and then Ron mentions "the fireworks!" and Gracey goes.. "Aren't you thinkin of that year you were with the Sox?" and Ronny goes "Ughhhhh yea..." in his Ron Santo trademark way... Anyone remember that?
  10. That's a dubious statement ... but I'll grant you that the fans' attitude/atmosphere at Wrigley had a big hand in dealing us the events of Game 6. You would be correct. I should know. I was there. The studies that have shown that mass consciousness can affect the outcome of events are well-documented. It was something like a group of patients at a hospital were prayed for and group wasn't. The results were surprising, IIRC. Wasn't there another study recently done on patients who were prayed for, meditated for, some combination of the two, or neither that concluded prayer and meditation did nothing for them? I can't imagine that anyone actually believes that mass conciousness has an effect on something like the outcome of a baseball game, that's just ridiculous. Thanks for your 2 cents. When you educate yourself, the ridiculous can transform into the sublime. By all means then, please continue fooling yourself into believing nonsense. And you can continue fooling yourself into thinking you know better. How the hell can anyone actually believe this? What happens if 2 million cub fans think positive thoughts about the game, and 2 million cardinal fans do the same? A tie?  Honestly, at first I thought it was sarcasm. I can't believe anyone would actually believe something like that... To each his own, I guess...
  11. Lefty in and I bet Dusty never even gave a thought to bringing in Murt or Cedeno... I'm not saying he should burn all his pinch hitters thsi soon.. but A- with our bullpen you're playing with fire, and B - if the situation were converse (had Ronny or Matt started and a righty came in), he'd probably pinch hit Holla and Neifi.. ah well, I'm just wasting my fingers...
  12. ahhh D-Lee getting walked... Boy, do I wish ARam was hitting 4th..
  13. Um, for what? Trying to hit a fly ball with a runner on 3rd and 1 out late in a tied game?
  14. Darn you Barrett.. don't you know you're not supposed to draw walks in the 8 hole?? Especially with runners on.. GOD
