  1. Actually, it is Pair-ez. At least that's the way they pronounce it here, where it's 80% hispanic. It's definitely PER-ez (emphasis on the first syllable)... Same with CHA-vez.. That one also gets butchered all the time... Even Eric Chavez thinks it's pronounced Cha-VEZ... ah, well... We've had this convo before, lol.
  2. I'm guessing he was past his prime and they dumped him off at the end of his career... But what do I know? I wasn't born till 1983... This reminds me of that commercial with Santo and Grace, circa 1995.. One of the "Cubs - We're working on it," commercials... They talk about the good old days at the ballpark.. Hot dogs.. Ron Santo pizza in a box.. and then Ron mentions "the fireworks!" and Gracey goes.. "Aren't you thinkin of that year you were with the Sox?" and Ronny goes "Ughhhhh yea..." in his Ron Santo trademark way... Anyone remember that?
  3. That's a dubious statement ... but I'll grant you that the fans' attitude/atmosphere at Wrigley had a big hand in dealing us the events of Game 6. You would be correct. I should know. I was there. The studies that have shown that mass consciousness can affect the outcome of events are well-documented. It was something like a group of patients at a hospital were prayed for and group wasn't. The results were surprising, IIRC. Wasn't there another study recently done on patients who were prayed for, meditated for, some combination of the two, or neither that concluded prayer and meditation did nothing for them? I can't imagine that anyone actually believes that mass conciousness has an effect on something like the outcome of a baseball game, that's just ridiculous. Thanks for your 2 cents. When you educate yourself, the ridiculous can transform into the sublime. By all means then, please continue fooling yourself into believing nonsense. And you can continue fooling yourself into thinking you know better. How the hell can anyone actually believe this? What happens if 2 million cub fans think positive thoughts about the game, and 2 million cardinal fans do the same? A tie?  Honestly, at first I thought it was sarcasm. I can't believe anyone would actually believe something like that... To each his own, I guess...
  4. Lefty in and I bet Dusty never even gave a thought to bringing in Murt or Cedeno... I'm not saying he should burn all his pinch hitters thsi soon.. but A- with our bullpen you're playing with fire, and B - if the situation were converse (had Ronny or Matt started and a righty came in), he'd probably pinch hit Holla and Neifi.. ah well, I'm just wasting my fingers...
  5. ahhh D-Lee getting walked... Boy, do I wish ARam was hitting 4th..
  6. Um, for what? Trying to hit a fly ball with a runner on 3rd and 1 out late in a tied game?
  7. Darn you Barrett.. don't you know you're not supposed to draw walks in the 8 hole?? Especially with runners on.. GOD
  8. Reminds me of the playoffs in 03.. Everything was suddenly 97 and up..
  9. Maybe that HR was just what Zam needed.. :) He looks PO'ed now..
  10. Here's hoping Aramis comes up and smokes one next inning to shut all of them up.
  11. ^^^ this guy is stupid. nice, DLee. nice. Hey, attack the argument, not the poster!
  12. DLee! Too bad Ramirez isn't coming up now..
  13. *This* self-annointed expert is wondering the same thing.. :-k
