  1. Seriously? A 4 page thread on this? Who gives a shizzle?
  2. Here's one.. How many of the teams that have won game 3 have gone on to win the series?
  3. With what money? and whose? I think "getting a-rod" is code speak for "hitting the sauce HARD" I don't think A-Rod will be avaliable this winter unless we take him down off the cross the NY fans will crucify him on. There's a very good chance ARod will exercise the opt out clause in his contract this offseason and become a free agent. And, if he does, the Yanks have come out and said that they won't re-sign him. Who knows if that will really be the case, but that's what they came out and said. What makes you think there's a very good chance? The Yanks would be idiots to throw away the $21M+ that Texas is paying ARod. What do you mean? If AROD opts out he's a free agent and his previous contract is void. So Texas wouldn't be paying the Yanks anything. Right? Well, they could work out an extension with ARod and keep the old contract and, thus, keep the Ranger money. But if ARod thinks he'll get more no the open market and isn't happy in NY (there's reason to believe both), I don't see why he wouldn't opt out.

  5. If Lilly pitches game 5, that'd be his normal rest because of the day off between games 4 and 5. Damn, you beat me to it. :)

  7. To be fair, I went to sleep right after the game last night and didn't realize I had to start this until I got up and logged in this morning.
  8. Well for one thing, I wouldn't look at Soto's percentage so much (sample size, for one), mainly because it's not about Soto so much as it is about the fact that Kendall = free base. Has he even thrown a runner out with the Cubs?
  9. Well... he did have a key walk that moved a runner over to third for Theriot's IF RBI single. He was 0-1 in SB attempts, but who knows how many times the DBacks would have went for a SB with Kendall behind the plate. I'm pretty sure that Kendall would have been just as patient in that situation. Also, the D-Backs rarely had the opportunity to run last night. The reason they weren't running wasn't because Soto was behind the plate instead of Kendall. I don't think Kendall is a great catcher, but I'm not going to complain if he plays instead of Soto tonight. I think you're mistaken if you think that the D'Backs won't try to run a lot more with Kendall behind the plate than with Soto. With Kendall back there, you're pretty much giving any runner with remotely good speed second base.
  10. Optimism (actually realism) from UMFan... What the hell is going on? But yea... I like our matchups, except a potential Webb and Z on 3 days rest on Sunday... Normally I'd be pessimistic after last night, and I started to be...but I said before the series started that we would lose game 1 and win the next 3, and I'm sticking to it. Also one thing to note is that Webb has never gone on short rest in his career. Actually, I'd prefer him to go on Sunday. If he beats the Cubs, then game 5 would be Lilly vs. Owings. Good point. I was just thinking along the lines that as a good sinkerballer, he'd be less effected by the short rest. My logic was that if being too strong hurts them sometimes (start getting the ball up and crap), maybe being a little too tired at least wouldn't hurt them too much.

  12. I'm pretty sure the schedule is already set. I'm not sure whether or not they change it, but I don't think they do.
  13. Will Carroll humble?? The best part about Carroll's gloating is that he pretty much has nothing to do with PECOTA. And the "I predicted Phil Nevin too bitches!" at the end was ludicrous. Acting like a petulant child. I have no idea what people are talking about now. I think they're talking about his F-U article to the White Sox after they went the 72-90 (or whatever it was) that Pecota projected. I guess some Sox players had made some smart ass remarks in early spring when the projections came out. But I have no clue what the Phil Nevin stuff is.
  14. Nah. 1984 game 5. I was a wreck. Yeah, I was a pretty big wreck then too...I knew it was only one more year before I would be born and I was getting really frustrated not existing. burn! I had just turned 8 and it is the primary reason I had ulcers as a child. BTW today is my birthday...what better present than a CUBS WIN!!! Happy 31st Bday mang!
  15. BTW, real good stuff, IMB
  16. I'm pretty sure it was "Rodrigo Ramirez"
  17. Game 4 looks good on paper... Webb is only 2-3 in day games and the wind is going to be howling out according to Sunday's forecast. Two things: 1) If the wind is howling out and Webb is pitching, that's a very bad thing. He's going to keep the ball down more than any pitcher the Cubs send down there, which means the Diamondbacks are going to hit more home runs than the Cubs in that scenario. 2) Thankfully, Webb is not the game 4 starter. Micah Owings is, and he is a flyball pitcher. If the wind is blowing out with Owings on the mound, that should be advantage Cubs. There's a pretty good chance that if the D'Backs are down 2-1, they'll go with Webb on short rest rather than Owings, don't you think?
  18. A win tonight = best of 3 with first two at Wrigley
  19. We'll have to agree to disagree. In the article he says what the numbers say the most likely outcome is. He concedes that his prediction is only the second most likely outcome (so, not THAT far out on a limb). The final prediction means little, IMO. The substance of the article is what matters.
  20. It was Nate Silver... Oh, and in the actual article he said that the most probable outcome was Cubs in 4, (probably) losing game one. He just said "F it" and went with the sweep prediction for the hell of it.
  21. Nah. 1984 game 5. I was a wreck. I was in college, watching in my apartment, and when the grounder went through Durham's legs, I walk over tothe kitchen, picked up a chair and repeatedly smashed it against the wall until it was a pile of toothpicks. Never said a word, and nor did my roomate. I remember that Sunday afternoon, how in the hell did San Diego, a team with four less wins than the Cubs get home field advantage? - that 2-3 format was a load of crap. Back then they alternated home field from year to year between the eastern and western division champs, right?
  22. Considering I was thinking we'd win this series but lose the first game all along, no, I can't really say I've changed my mind, even though the loss stings.
  23. If it's not, it's pretty much as damn close as it gets.
  24. Theodore Roosevelt Lilly http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6223.jpg 119 ERA+ 1.140 WHIP vs. Douglas P. Davis http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6299.jpg 111 ERA+ 1.588 WHIP Let's tie this damn thing up! http://www.sportslogos.net/images/teams/primaries/2hr0cnmrobhtixo466nf.gif
  25. Offense doesn't get a pass but Lou is supposed to put the team in the best position to win and I don't believe he did. I blame the offense and Marmol too. Can you really blame the offense for getting shut down by Brandon Webb? Well, I'm not surprised but yes, they could have done better. Yea. A little luck, and they would've. Lots of hard hit balls today. More than I expected, honestly. They weren't really being patient, but I suppose that's the book on Webb. You have to get him while he's trying to get ahead early. That's what UK's take on it was, at least.
