  1. Wouldn't want to waste those 4 steps to the phone on the wall from your seat on the bench.
  2. Seeing that on replay just killed me. It was on the inside of the post too, but there was enough spin to counter the round post and send it back.
  3. I saw from the 25th minute til the 3rd goal at lunch, and I just finished watching the Ghana-Italy game on tape. We're boned. No doubt we were the worst team in the group today, although that's partly a reflection of the group. I like Marco's comment about lacking creativity, because that's what it was. We had a lot more possession, but everytime we'd go to make a move we'd play a predictable ball, a poor one, or both. CZR really capitalized on their opportunities too. Beasley pretty much disappeared, but I have to say Pope was the worst player I saw today. Not only was he poor at his job of defending, but he kept playing terrible balls forward that either couldn't be handled, or gave away any advantage we were gaining. I was also pissed that Dempsey never came in, because he can help with that lack of imagination. I guess Arena thought Convey would be a good matchup on that side, but after halftime it was blatantly clear he wasn't getting anything done, and Wolff warming up(and I assume came in, I didn't see the last 14 mins) was even worse.
  4. Soriano - 2006 Home: .305/.397/.705/1.101 Away: .301/.344/.556/.899
  5. Marmol has been mixing in a change in his outings.
  6. I think that is right: Z = 07' Prior = 08' Correct.
  7. I know, and that's because this drops a bomb on part of the Patterson arguments, of which we are on opposing sides. Okay, then I'll just see what his numbers are when I take out his outs. Looks like he's sporting a 1.000 OBP, pretty good if you ask me. And for the third time, no one said the bunts were bad. You're bombing an argument that isn't even being made.
  8. And that's exactly what I just said you can't/shouldn't do.
  9. Casey's career numbers would probably be a career year for Murton if/when he doesn't develop power, so he'd be worse than that on the whole, which is pretty unacceptable for a corner OF.
  10. No one ever had a problem with Corey bunting, as long as it was in conjunction with what the O's are doing with him now, not as some attempt to mold him into the "prototypical leadoff hitter". And you can't simply remove his bunt hits in a vacuum and say he'd be crap without them, not that anyone doesn't want him to bunt anyways.
  11. Getting bunt hits does not = slap hitter. Corey has been a good bunter in the past and not utilizing that ability at least on occasion would be stupid. As has been backed up with quotes from Elia, they had Patterson work on just hitting line drives, not trying to avoid strikeouts, and slap the ball around on the ground.
  12. We need another guy who can't stay healthy? I'll take Drew while I'm at it. You're setting yourself up for lots of Neifi and Bynum. Well in my fantasy world where Hendry understands that those two guys are good, neither of those two are ever to be seen wearing anything related to the Cubs ever again, under the pain of death.
  13. Haren doesn't have postseason experience starting, but he's been good(better postseason ERA than Mulder) when he has pitched. Also, September was Haren's best month last year.
  14. We need another guy who can't stay healthy? I'll take Drew while I'm at it.
  15. Free Mike Wuertz
  16. petition to ban rolleyes
  17. People who need an excuse not to like him, and have no other proof besides the (unfortunatley) accepted myth that he is a poor defender. Walker is a poor defender, that's no myth. He's a poor defender if you compare him to guys like Castillo/Hudson/Igauchi/, but with other 2B, Walker a mere average defender. He does the job at 2b, IMO, and that is all that counts. No, he's pretty easily below average. By all accounts, I love having him on the team, and his bat more than makes up for any defensive shortcomings, but let's not fight hyperbole with hyperbole. Walker's decidedly below average as a defender. How is he "decidedly" below average? He's easily worse than most second basemen. Whether you want a quantified example(John Dewan's +/- rankings in his book The Fielding Bible) or a scouting report on his defensive shortcomings, they agree that walker is not good defensively.
  18. I know it's been said before, but that is the worst thread in the history of message boards. I'm still reeling how he praised Griffey for getting an out than ripped Dunn for hitting a HR because it wasn't in a crucial situation. I mean.... I don't know. I have no words.
  19. They were picked in the same draft. Patterson was No. 3 overall and Pierre was picked in the 13th round. They had same amount of minor league experience. No argument there, Pierre is a leadoff hitter. That explains half a season. The correct answer is that Corey was terrible a lot of the time while Pierre was good. The difference is about 1300 AB's. Because they didn't really start in the same year, you're including a full year of Pierre's at bats compared to Patterson's september callup, which is a difference of at least 600. Patterson missed about 450 at bats when he tore his ACL. And he was so bad last year that he got about 150 at bats fewer than a normal player should. That's about 1200, with the remainder due to Pierre's batting order spot and other unrelated factors. Of course, all of this goes without saying that using their career at bats to determine what you are is fallacious, and that even in Pierre's good years Patterson has been as good if not better.
  20. Corey had 2,176 career ABs coming into this season, Pierre had 3,411. And why did Pierre get more AB's during that time? Because he's two years older, spent just about all his time at the leadoff spot, and didn't tear his ACL. And they really didn't break in during the same year. Patterson was a september callup that got 42 at bats. Pierre played 50 games and had 200 AB's, much more similar to Patterson's 2001.
  21. Stupid work. I should be able to see a little under half the game at lunch, but it's going to kill me not seeing the end, especially if it's close.
  22. that's got to be the shadiest unearned run in history, nevermind that it should've been on Ross.
  23. That means the actual number is around 30 or so.
