    One of Madrigal, Tauchman, or Mastrobuoni needs to start. Against a high velo RHP with a GB heavy LHP on the mound, I don't see a huge issue with Madrigal at 3B and Morel DHing. We've learned more about the team since then so we can probably strip Busch out of these and incorporate Mastrobuoni, but the matrix I threw together before ST would hold here.

    Would it make sense to move General Baseball Talk to the 2nd or 3rd position among baseball forums? Feels like it ends up below the fold on my screens and the others above it don't get as much use(or are very seasonal, like the draft), so would help avoid too much thread consolidation from being out of sight and out of mind.

    I think this might be because it's an interleague matchup(the only one of the week), so it can't really be a 4 gamer and they don't want to have a weekend day off.

    Not a lot of SPs at Iowa, strangely. Brown, Wesneski, Riley Thompson, and I guess two of Pannone, McWilliams, and Clarke? They do have 15 pitchers rostered so can definitely withstand some bullpen days.

    AAA starts tomorrow but all other levels don't start til next Friday, so I'm guessing we see rosters for non-Iowa affiliates next week. I'm not certain of where the Rojas to AA roster originated, but my guess is he was reassigned to AA during spring training, and you often see prospects sent to camp at a higher level than they'll play, since subsequent MLB camp cuts push everyone else down further.

    I think this is probably backwards. If the Dodgers needed to find a way to 'fill out cap space' they would've extended Smith for higher AAV and fewer years, there's no way they're *eager* to have him locked up until he's 39. I suspect that this some combination of 1) the Dodgers modeling having a more optimistic view of aging curves than most teams, either in general or for the players they signed to looong deals, and/or 2) more clarity on where they intend to spend for the foreseeable future, which might also inform their aggressiveness re #1.

    With no unrostered pitchers making the big league team, Kilian to the 60 day IL should do the trick.

    I get the impression that the Dodgers updated some of their internal models this offseason, and in a couple years we're gonna find out if they were way ahead of the curve or shot themselves in the foot

    The Cubs have a Top 3 run scoring offense in MLB They trade for a multi-year SP solution at the deadline(some off the cuff names: Cristian Javier, Zac Gallen, Aaron Civale) Taillon starts the 2nd game of a playoff series Swanson puts up a career high wRC+ Morel spends the next offseason as a trade target again, because he doesn't take to 3rd and Suzuki(who finds another level above 2023 offense) is preferably a DH in 2025-26

    Palencia's fastball seems too straight to be an 80 grade since high 90s as a reliever isn't unicorn territory anymore, is there any other context why, like ride or something about deception/tunneling?

    I don't know for sure, but from looking at the schedule the other day I think lots of teams are doing final ST games that make travel to their first series easier. The LA teams are playing in Dodger stadium, San Fran is playing their Sacramento affiliate in their home stadium. The Cardinals open in LA so having their final ST tuneup not be a cross country flight away in FL makes some sense I guess.

    Put me down for "Mastrobuoni over Canario is good, actually" Canario is a poor fit on the roster, extremely duplicative with other players, and frankly not as good a player as some people hope. Similarly, Mastrobuoni does a surprising amount of things well and fits a need that goes beyond "short sided platoon DH"

    It's time for everyone's favorite game, guess which Mexican player commits a red card foul out of pissiness and magically escapes with a yellow. The clubhouse favorite(Alvarez) is already on a dirty yellow so my vote is for Chucky

    So with no Carl that probably means Little and Cuas from day 1, with an outside shot for Wesneski as a MIRP?

    Yes exactly. Montgomery has been a bit overrated this offseason and now his lack of season prep compounds the issue. I would rather not be tying significant dollars up in a multi year deal with him. And on a one year deal, you’re probably better off using resources at the deadline since Montgomery vs the incumbents in the first half is a very tight decision.

    Berhalter was 1000% not getting fired if they lost, especially in that way. I swear 90% of devoted online soccer fans just pretend reality is whatever they feel like

    The Reds won 82 games last year and that will probably be the high water mark for this wave of young players. They have no truly elite talents to raise their ceiling/hedge against regression, have not nearly enough pitching certainty or depth, and will not spend to increase their floor on either side of the ball. They’re significantly more likely to finish last than 1st in the division.
