It must have to do with the game being on "The U" in Chicago. Never seen a game from Ch. 26 on EI. And EI never seems to have the PHI feed of games, so between the two, I guess they shouldn't show it. We get the Comcast CHI feed tomorrow night. EI always does the home team's feed, so that's why you don't see the Philly guys in this instance.

I don't think you're understanding what a double cut is. Tell me, what is a double cut? A double cut is when both middle infielders go out and one of them receives the throw. For the play in question, DeRosa and Theriot both got into position to receive a throw from Murton, with some space between them. There's been a good deal of debate on the exact purpose in the thread, but the point is that one of them receives the throw from Murton. A double cut means Murton to DeRosa or Theriot to the plate, not Murton to DeRosa to Theriot to the plate.

So you're basing your throwing decision on the worst case scenario, that being a terrible throw that the 2nd cut can't even knock down. Makes sense to do that for little league and even some high schoolers(though by the time I learned double cut we were using it in the way I presented), but for a major leaguer that's wasteful to throw to the short guy just because you might make a bad throw and now you can save a runner from moving up one base max. Just the opposite--if you miss the first guy, there is a back-up. If you miss the second guy, problems. I don't know how old you are or if you've ever played ball at an advanced level. However, reading your posts makes me think you haven't. Once you get past little league there is no 2nd cut off. If you need two cuts to get a guy out at home you aren't getting him out unless he's tryng for an inside the park HR or very, very slow. It is asinine. I could be wrong but it looked to me like Murton picked Theriot up at the edge of the infield like an outfielder is taught to do when throwing to home, and fired. Theriot might have been backing up Derosa who was way out of positon, I don't know. Had Murton thrown to him instead of Theriot a run would have scored. Good play by Murton and Theriot. I don't think you're understanding what a double cut is.

Theriot is 17th of 28 qualified SS in OPS, 13th out of 27 in Runs Created(as a rate).

Would also likely be the death knell of Murton in Chicago, correct? I kind of thought Church would play CF and wouldn't really effect Murton. Of course, Murton could be part of the deal. I don't know if I'd like giving up Murton for Church. They seem very similar, with Murton having a little more potential and maybe a little better bat and Church being a better defender and being able to play CF. Church is every bit the bat Murton is, probably better.

I have--when the ball goes over the second cut-off guy or when it ships by him..... That's not what I said. Both those instances are poor throws, and would be considered poor throws no matter who is being thrown to. I said I've never heard of an outfielder getting in trouble for hitting the second cutoff with a strong throw.

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that an outfielder make as strong a throw as he can as long as it's on target, and if it makes it to the second cut-off man, then great. By a similar token, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for hitting the double cut with a strong throw.

Murton threw straight through to the plate on that one since it was just a single.

I think Howard was up, and hit a double into RF, Iguchi was on the bases and held up at 3rd.

To reiterate, Wood will be taking Cherry's spot on the roster later this week. That means from the right side we'll have: Dempster Howry Marmol Wood Wuertz If Michael Wuertz is the worst of the 5 RH relievers you have, then you do not have any type of need for another one. Batting Practice Bob is anything but reliable right now. He's given up a run in 6 of his last 27 outings. Since May ended he's had a WHIP right at 1, a K/9 above 9, a K/BB above 6, and only 2 HR in 26 innings. He's fine right now.

Marmol's arm isn't going to fall off, especially with Wood coming this week. I don't see how adding Silva makes Hill tradeable in the slightest. We do not need another RH bullpen arm.

Only problem is that we'd be paying the price the Reds want for Dunn, and I don't think we want to do that for Church + Rauch. Not really if the Nationals put in a couple pieces for the Reds. Starting with Rauch, who the Cubs don't need. Word. And he's a reliever, and it's Krivsky, even better.

Probably the career .292/.375/.506 minor league numbers. He's been jacked around by the Nats, so I don't know that his major league numbers are indicative of his talent level. Or maybe its harder in the Major Leagues? .287/.353/.466 in 2005 .276/.366/.526 in 2006

Teixeira doesn't count? One thing to remember is that Hendry has shown an ability to get it done at the 11th hour. Nomar and Lawton were both right at the deadline.

They just demoted him. You could get him for a good arm and a bullpen arm. They did? I think so. I thought I read that somewhere. Hmmm, curious considering he's on the 25 man roster at the D-Rays site. Busting chops, new thing.
