my assumption is that a pitcher who never established himself as a major league pitcher will not be able to do so during his first year off of TJ surgery. hell, liriano was maybe the best pitcher in baseball for half a season, and he's pitched lousy this year. Guzman's been a reliever in two consecutive seasons now(with about a half season's worth of work) with fine success. Liriano is a starter, being able to recover the ability to dominate for 6-7 innings is quite different than being able to hit your spots for 1. I said "if he's effective". If he struggles in his rehab, don't worry about him and let him have a go at the big league pen in '09.
