  1. It's Eugenio Velez, don't try to be fine, throw it over the plate
  2. The Giants know they aren't scoring off Wood in the 9th, one run is the same as six, so they give up a free baserunner to try and get a DP.
  3. Hate how his was managed after the leadoff double. Should have bunted w/ Dero. Now we wasted multiple guys and Marquis is forced out. Both of those things would likely happen even if DeRosa bunted.
  4. Why is Cedeno running? You're just going to replace him Fukudome anyways, let Kosuke run. EDIT: I guess Kosuke will hit for the pitcher, that makes sense.
  5. Rich Aurilia really wants Marquis to pitch a complete game. He's made 3 outs on 3 pitches the last 2 times he's been up.
  6. There is one Giant regular with an OPS over .800, and it's Rowand at .810. That's hilariously bad.
  7. Gameday is frozen with Fontenot at a full count with 1 out and Cain at 55 pitches. He's gotta be at least at 57.
  8. He's out a month, so he should be pretty cheap. That long eh? Bummer. At this point we're pretty much rehashing the "people to platoon with Pie" list from the spring, but Cody Ross is killing LHP again for Florida.
  9. Spilborghs replacing Johnson would be a good choice if the cost was low enough.
  10. Fontenot, yes. And considering his experience there lasted what, a couple innings, last year, I doubt Lou sees him as an option. DeRosa, maybe, although one might think he'd have played there more before if Lou considers him viable there. If you do that though, you have to be prepared to say goodbye to Cedeno. He's out of options, and while he's not much right now, if Theriot falls off a cliff/gets seriously hurt, there's no one else in the system besides him that would play there for an extended stretch.
  11. I thought for sure that Blake could play 2B, but he hasn't played a MLB game there. He's ideal for what we need, but the problem becomes, who does he replace? Blanco and Cedeno can't hit, but they also play defense where no one else can. Ward and Fontenot are both hitting the ball from the left side. Johnson could be replaced, but having gimpy Jimmy Baseball as your only true CF is probably a bad idea. The only truly ideal solution would be having Pie hitting well and playing CF, replacing Edmonds, while Blake takes Johnson's roster spot and we get by with Fukudome and Cedeno as backup CF. However, Blake replacing Johnson isn't a huge improvement. What would you guys do? Go to a shorter pen? Abandon a backup SS for 6 weeks? Get rid of a productive platoon bat(Fontenot or Johnson)?
  12. I don't think this is a big deal. Wuertz was going to be available for Saturday and Sunday at the max, and his usage is out of whack and he's coming off an awful outing. With the All-Star break it buys several days towards the 10 until Wuertz can come back. Mike goes down to Iowa, gets regular usage for a week, and if he's doing alright he comes back up. If Hart is no good, you can always replace him with Marshall when he leaves the rotation after the break, Ascanio from Iowa, or Eyre when he comes back shortly after the break.
  13. I just noticed this was an afternoon game. That'll make passing Friday afternoon a little easier.
  14. Surprising that you had three on hand to sell.
  15. Um...he had multiple offers on the table. He picked this one. I'm not sure there's anyone that needs "blaming" for his contract (which is what your use of "fault" implies) but if there is, Kosuke gets some if not all of it. This is a confusing response considering that Kosuke took less money to be a Cub.
  16. Kinsler is the number 1 player in your league. You can do better.
  17. I'm gonna go look at who was taken after Pawelek so I can get good and depressed. Ellsbury, Rasmus, Garza, Craig Hansen, Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie, Joey Devine all before the end of the Supplemental round, yikes
  18. Awful hitters who didn't require any effort to get out. Lots of them. Take the 1946 Cardinals. They had Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter, and Whitey Kurowski, but their other 5 hitters OPS'ed under .700. And they led the league in runs. I don't know if that's really the right answer. I'm not saying you are wrong, because clearly there are better hitters today than back then due to the talent pool increase. However, your Cardinals example was pretty narrow and was just looking at one team in a single year. Let's look at NL league OPS by decade. Now, we have to remember that the very low .OPS in '06 and '16 is due to the fact that slugging wasn't very high in those days i.e. deadball era. 1906: .658 (league slugging .330) 1916: .655 (league slugging .341) 1926: .757 1936: .823 1946: .717 1956: .748 1966: .725 1976: .715 1986: .731 1996: .735 2006: .785 Those are some pretty significant differences. 1946-1966 has an average OPS of .730(just averaging your 3 numbers). That's 55 points of OPS for every single player, league wide, it's a huge deal. The disparity is even greater when you consider there were 16 teams in '46 and '56, and 20 in '66, and 30 in 2006.
  19. Up to the millisecond line for Vitters: .337/.398/.530/.928
  20. Vitters with a 2 run double, Boise leads 5-0 after 2.
