  1. just run into one and let Wade steal this against 7-8-9 I ask for one swing, that's all
  2. those 2 balls were struck at least as well as the Dodgers 2 HR last night
  3. Coincidentally enough I was bored on Friday and started plotting this out. I got 25 for the arb estimates minus Rondon and Martin so 23.8 seems about right. This year I switched to looking at luxury tax amounts since I think the luxury tax is the closest limitation the team will have on payroll. That might not be the case in future years, but since they're so far below this year and they benefit from being under right before the 2018 FA class, that's what I'm going with. The room to spend includes another 22 million taken out for benefit costs and MLB minimum for the remainder of the 40 man. That might be an overestimate, but better safe than sorry. The room to spend number goes down by 15 million in 2019(arb increases + Quintana's option year - Wilson) and adds another bullpen spot to fill. 2019 is also a potential year to go over the tax, although there isn't much payroll relief the year after(only Zobrist and any yet unsigned short term deals).
  4. This is getting beyond the intent of the thread, but they don't need to be stingy with both the rotation and the bullpen to maintain a shot at Harper. Especially since there's a 0% chance Russell or Bryant entertain an extension, and any extension to Hendricks, Contreras, or Baez wouldn't move the needle on their current costs much unless they manage to extend 2 or all 3 of them(extremely unlikely).
  5. You are very close to realizing that you're looking for something to be wrong because the game was frustrating. Hitting Scherzer, Strasburg, Kershaw, and Jansen(15 of his 25 PA) is hard. You'd hope he'd do better of course, but he also has 5 hits(2 XBH) and a walk in 6 games. He hasn't been a black hole. Fair enough. Hitting good pitchers is hard. But he’s an MVP. You expect more from an MVP. He already has a pretty extensive and very mediocre playoff resume. Bryant hit .308/.400/.523 in the playoffs last year. He hit 3 home runs, one tied a game in the 9th inning, and the other 2 gave the Cubs leads in World Series elimination games.

  7. Tactical wunderkind Dave Roberts lets Morrow hit for himself, then pulls him to get a lefty against a switch hitter and a lefty with no splits, with the goal of getting Jansen a 4 out save with a 3 run lead.
  8. I mean, to be 100% clear, Willson broke the rule. What's infuriating is that there are dozens and dozens of instances where a guy kicks his back leg out even though he doesn't need to and it's allowed under the 'moving to receive the throw' umbrella. In many of them the throw was coming from the opposite direction(unlike this play). Dozens of these plays reviewed, not a single solitary one called.
  9. literally YEARS of that exact play not being called, give me a break
  10. Lackey hasn't thrown in 2 weeks and he's not gonna throw 50 pitches today. He can go again tomorrow.
  11. We saw Lackey start against the Dodger A lineup(mostly, Turner didn't play) already once this year, he wouldn't have made it through 4 unless we just punted the game wholesale.
  12. "he's not moving" [Roberts immediately gets up and removes Maeda]
  13. What are you talking about? Manfred insists the ball isn't juiced and Chris Taylor hitting 23 home runs this season seems totally legit. luv 2 watch middle infielders hit HR out to right center when they didn't even barrel it
  14. The one look they showed of him in the bullpen didn't give the impression that he was heating up quickly, but that stuff can be deceptive.
  15. He gave up one hard hit ball in the 5th. I get the logic to remove him, but the idea that he had nothing left is silly. Walked a couple guys also though. Yeah, he had a couple of close misses on full counts, he hadn't had his command desert him. And he finished the inning by inducing weak contact from the last 2 hitters. If you want to go to the bullpen there, fine. He threw a couple pitches on Thursday, 3rd time thru the order, 2 runs given up last inning. But giving him a short leash in the 6th would've been fine too.

  17. .... if you're going to double switch Montgomery in the game in this situation, why didn't he just start the inning?
  18. I probably would've given Quintana through Bellinger here.
