  1. You're gonna feel real crummy when you get a voicemail of Pat saying "Sammy Sofa's order is iiiiin the mail!"
  2. Is Kris Bryant a Superstar? [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Chen has given up 3 HR in less than 10 innings, so if he's lucky Dylan Bundy will only have his ignominy for a day.
  4. We didn't deserve Ichiro [tweet]https://twitter.com/sung_minkim/status/994234557787340800[/tweet]
  5. Let's focus on this for a second. Machado is a third baseman, he has 80 games at SS in MLB with a -3 UZR, he's on a -8 pace so far this year. If you want to try to stuff him at SS he probably isn't going to sink you, but I think there's a misconception about what he's actually good at defensively. Nolan Arenado makes some sweet plays to his right at the hot corner too, doesn't make him a good MLB SS. The last 3 years he's only about a +6 third baseman too, which not so coincidentally matches up to his offensive uptick(e.g. filling out/physical maturity). Also, Machado is only a small upgrade over TLS with the bat against RHP, but that's a more minor point. Especially since Zobrist and Happ also exist so you're really talking about the best of the 3 for a given matchup. Guessing this is probably a bad idea.... But what about sticking him at 2B and putting Javy at SS? I realize he's never played there in the majors, but he's played SS. Surely he could play 2B competently? If he's +3-5 at 3B and -3-5 at SS, it would stand to reason he'd probably be averagish at 2B for now. At that point you've basically paid all that money for Brian Dozier though.
  6. Can confirm. I can't seem to find it, but I remember Fowler tweeting about how much trouble he was having finding a house/apartment shortly after signing.

  8. I think Theo is very good at selling players, but I don't think the Cubs gain a material advantage by having Machado be there first hand for a couple months. See Darvish/Dodgers, Heyward/Cardinals, etc.
  9. Also, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1/1 K/BB and a save for tonight’s #Mekkeswatch
  10. South Bend has half an offense worth paying attention to now with Velazquez, Amaya, and Filiere. Speaking of Filiere, he got his OPS over .900 tonight. K’ing too much overall, but trending the right way with only 7 in his last 39 PA.
  11. Dietrich is allowed to truck him, but the tough guy staredown and stepping towards him was worthy of many eye rolls.
  12. Dietrich pretty flagrantly stuck his elbow out to get hit there
  13. Oh yeah I’m all in on Bryce. Just can see how Machado could make a little more sense, Bryce is the better (potentially much better) player and adding the best talent should win out over whatever they could get for Russell to add Machado over signing just Bryce. I think if you're dropping hundreds of millions on a big acquisition, you don't let players like Russell(assuming he continues to disappoint), Almora, Happ, and Heyward dictate your target. You make the complementary pieces work once you have your man.
  14. I'm down on Russell but I'm not trading him for a couple months of Machado. On a related note, you Machado over Harper heathens need to repent.
  15. DeRosa was a 7th round pick and IIRC a pretty well regarded prospect, but that might be revisionist history. For a more recent example that even has a Cubs prospect connection, Josh Harrison would be a good outcome for Bote.
  16. It would be unequivocally a bad thing, but Montgomery has a sub-4 ERA in nearly 20 starts as a Cub.
  17. HR to Eloy aside, better results from Rucker: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5/2 K/BB Still need fewer walks though, his profile works because of great control, not just a ‘not bad’ amount of walks.
  18. My favorite was when they froze it with Russell’s hand on the plate and Molina’s glove not there yet. [long pause] “that’s really close”
  19. Terrific slide by Russell, really good strength when Molina’s leg started redirecting that arm
  20. He's using the official video for the highlights which is the Astros broadcast and OH HEY THERE JD
  21. On that scale you basically need to be a Top 10 overall prospect to be an OFP 60, so moving Amaya to a 50 with plenty of time for him to go higher does make some sense, even if it underscores the absurdity of the scale.
  22. LeBron has spent the entire second half tossing up off-balance fadeaways from all over the court and they are all going in.
