I don't care if they are good. They aren't winning the World Series good and if you aren't going to sign Baez or Bryant or Rizzo, trade them all with Kimbrel before July 1. There is good regular season baseball and there is good playoff baseball. Just like when the Cubs beat up on the Mets in 2015 and got hammered in the playoffs because the Mets have better starting pitching. I thought we’ve all learned this isn’t a thing. Didn’t we all learn it wasn’t a thing like 15 years ago? Make the playoffs and take a spin on the Playoff Roulette wheel. Who would've guessed that when presented with two small samples of opposing results, it's the one that supports my preconceived notions that's the real one? Also the Cubs got 12 WAR from Arrieta and Lester in 2015, and the Mets lost to a Royals team that had Chris Young, Edinson Volquez, and Yordano Ventura start 4 of the 5 games.

I thought the story about Heyward not being vaccinated was that he had been on the antibody treatment when he had a fairly severe case of covid. Was that made up, not relevant now, or still the case?

the story is Eriksen called his teammates and asked them to play. Not sure that means they should have. Physically, it would be tough to gear back up tomorrow I think. I do have to say Schmeichel saves that goal 96 out of 100 times . . . That’s true that it could have been tough to play the next day, though PSG (and their opponent) did it in the UCL this year. It’s a tough situation for sure. I wonder if UEFA even gave them the option of playing the next day. The quote from Denmark’s coach after the game said UEFA gave them the option of tonight or tomorrow and they chose tonight.

Yeah I'm trying to keep my expectations in check but it feels like uber prospect hype is coming soon for him Have we had a top prospect with that kind of K/BB ratio? Even KB struck out quite a bit before he came up IIRC. In recent memory, Schwarber is probably the closest since he was roughly 15% BB/20% K in High-A and AA to go along with high average and big power. Davis I would guess will normalize in that direction(he's basically 1-2 bad nights from doubling the K%, to give a sense of the sample here), but he also isn't a college bat and has much more defensive/positional value. -
I watched this a bunch of times and from different broadcasts and only just now noticed that Chucky was extremely obviously encroaching, so even if Guardado scored it was gonna have to be retaken.

I’d prefer miazga and musah to ream and acosta, but with Adams not 90 mins fit I think 3 in the back makes sense to put Brooks, Dest, and Yedlin(or Robinson) in a position that plays to their strengths more, since yuiell v. Ream/miazga isn’t much difference in overall quality.

Yep. In the moment I was more confused by Brenly's comments than anything because even as something that was insensitive it didn't make its point very clearly to me. But the most charitable interpretation is that it was insensitive, and Brenly has a long history of being on the wrong side of this line without repercussion, so something should be done even if you zoom all the way in to this incident it could be seen as overkill. -
Kate Abdo has handled a clown car of different studio analysts in her career without getting thrown off her game, but it’s clear she’s met her match here.

My main takeaway was that they are closely monitoring Alzolay for signs of trouble as his workload ticks up, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a precautionary DL stint at one point. The Howard bit was pointing out his swing and miss against good stuff dates back to draft evals and in the past he might be a short season guy, but with that gone and their belief in his makeup they were aggressive in his placement and aren’t going to let a month worry them given the totality of the circumstances.

My reaction after thinking about this for 30 seconds - Bringing Ochoa to Europe but not Turner? - They must really be high on Che to bring him in over CCV or even Zimmerman - I'm guessing Zardes' omission is a lack of fitness since he's been battling a knock, and if he improves he'll slide in for Hoppe by the end of camp - I don't get Julian Green's inclusion, especially when they went to the effort of bringing in 3 MLS midfielders so it's not a Euro-centric thing. De la Torre, Cardoso, Perea, Williamson, Roldan, Bassett, I'd even take Holmes over Green. Any complaints are very much on the margins though. I hope Adams' inclusion bodes well for him playing in Nations League, since it seemed folks were writing him off after he was shut down from Leipzig's final game with the back injury.

The only match for Kane that makes sense to me would be PSG, I'm not sure if they would need to sell Mbappe first though. Agreed that there isn't a good Premier League match for him, and the more irrational of those potential options are the ones Spurs would be most hesitant to sell him to.

Yes, back injury is what I read. The comments seemed to indicate it wasn't super serious, so hopefully it won't be a problem for Nations League.

Heading into the bottom of the 10th you need 2 innings of work, I can accept that the benefit of having a lesser pitcher face the bottom third of the lineup is greater than the odds that the offense puts up more than a singular run in the top of the 11th. Love being unable to bring in our closer in a bases loaded, 1 out situation because he might possibly have to pitch another inning while the other team throws out Clase and Karinchak after they both pitched yesterday. Bringing him into the dirty inning, sure, I'm mostly speaking to Thompson getting the 10th at all, since that's where I saw a lot of Twitter consternation

Rondon and Strop probably qualify in terms of results, maybe not Strop in terms of stuff but Rondon was fairly elite velocity-wise.

I'm not going to claim that Bryant will be a great free agent value, but I don't find the 'he reportedly turned down $X so any contract he signs will be catastrophic' logic very compelling. For one, Bryant is far from on pre-arb money now and has been for a while, so the delta compared to say, extending Contreras or even Rizzo is not likely to be severe. Also I don't think anyone can know for sure how the FA market is going to go, but recent trends even without the pandemic are not very friendly to the idea of Bryant getting a mega deal.
