How many minutes of game time does the pitch clock need to save before Marquee realizes they don't need a 3rd person in the booth to fill every single second of airtime
Don't sleep on Alzolay too. I've somehow lost all memory of him pitching at the MLB level last year, but the early returns on him as a multi-inning reliever are, uh, good: 6 G, 13.1 IP, 3.38 ERA, 19/2 K/BB, 1 HR
I like the Wicks one, I think in general we're probably sleeping on his impact because he doesn't have cartoonish velocity and there's interesting guys in front of him. He took 2 starts to adjust to AA and then was lights out afterwards(21 IP, 2.57 ERA, 27/8 K/BB, 1 HR). Between Wesneski, Wicks, Kilian(I still believe) and Brown I think there's a strong chance you feel comfortable with 2 rotation spots from that group in 2024(albeit possibly not on opening day). Considering the current rotation is all under contract for 2024 that's fine too and speaks to the depth that is there at the moment.
Does the MLB roster count towards that limit? If so it feels like with inevitable injury rehabs and such that the MiLB rosters start getting a little lean to stay in those lines.
Considering Seiya's injury and Burnes being the opposing starter, everyone now has 24 hours to mentally prepare themselves for the strong possibility of Nick Madrigal: Opening Day Third Baseman
Maybe they give one of the new relievers some piggyback type work to give them time to flesh out any adjustments? Elias was starting in winter ball and is new to the org and is the first candidate that comes to mind.
Eyeballing that feed, I think the issue is that Articles live in their own category, but writers cross-post them to the forum for discussion. Taking Matt's article today as an example, the article lives at this URL: https://northsidebaseball.com/news-rumors/chicago-cubs/how-marcus-stroman-explains-the-2023-cubs-we-hope-r12/
but there's a forum topic about it that shows up in that feed: https://northsidebaseball.com/forums/topic/50759-article-how-marcus-stroman-explains-the-2023-cubs-we-hope/#comment-3804570
The former. Also, the last two deadlines has shown there isn't a massive haul to be had in selling guys off in the current era, so this is mostly a 'the pen isn't going to be stripped for parts' statement than it is about Happ or Bellinger.
Mexico was so uninspiring in their Nations League group(two draws to Jamaica and only +5 in two matches against Suriname) that they're the worst of the group winners, which means that they're the USMNT's semifinal opponent in June. The other semi will be Canada vs. Panama, unless Costa Rica get 2 goals in the next 10 mins in their match v. Panama.
84. They've upgraded on last year's team with the big signings and the farm system is ready to backstop depth in a way they weren't last year. I'd normally say 81-82 but I'm giving them a bump since they won't sell in July and they're set up to benefit from run environment changes more than the average team.
That is how it's currently sorted, but it looks like a couple old threads were mistakenly pinned with the board software change. I unpinned them so it should be better now.
Yeah I almost didn't include that bit because it's not like the team would turn down an extra year of Hoerner just because he aligns with some other FA, and to your point they back themselves to not have the cliff they saw with the last core. I think it underscores the benefit they would have gotten by trying to get another year or two if they could though, there's very little difference in the downsides if that deal is 4/55 or 4/60. Maybe Nico did insist as insurance that he can get paid as a SS, but that logic is at least a little odd considering he'd have 3 years of mostly playing 2B unless Swanson gets hurt, so there'd be open questions about him still being that caliber SS.
