  1. Couldn't a change of direction happened just from bouncing inside the glove? Also I really don't get it, isn't that all irrelevant since he was signaled out. I thought that superseded anything else, the fact that he was called out. Exactly, it DOESN'T MATTER whether or not the ball hit the ground. The controversy is that Eddings called him out. Reynolds said it best that the arm raise indicated no contact, and the fist called him out. For the Angels fielders to think anything different upon seeing that is ridiculous.
  2. Wasn't that the question where Eddings didn't say anything, and there was silence for a second before the Umpires superintendent jumped in with some nonsense?
  3. If anyone can find a link to video, I'd appreciate it.
  4. That's what he's saying on the press conference. He clearly lifts his arm sideways in one motion, then makes another motion to make a fist. To me, it looked like a "strike" then "out" motion.
  5. Okay, this would kinda be unprecedented, but could they overturn the call at this point? The nature and time of the call(ending the inning) make me think that it wouldn't be unfair to do so. Especially when it's something as cut and dry as "The umpire made the 'out' sign, that means he's out".
  6. Haha, what a sham. Isn't it a rule that Pierszynski can't run after he makes a move towards the dugout? Or is that a different league I'm thinking of?
  7. Haha, Ozzie you moron, Konerko is the only player on your team that can hit, and you try and steal with Dye to get him into scoring position. Let him hit a double instead of trying to be hands on. Or Konerko could K, making everything else futile. I like that best.
  8. I looked up midway through the replay, but the little I saw looked like they made the right call. It shouldn't have been close though, you have to be pretty stupid to venture that far off second on a line drive to left.
  9. his K/9 and BB/9 don't show nastiness. Not compared to the top closers. if 33/35 with a 1.85 era is not nasty i dont know what is. i would take dempster closing with his numbers over farnsworth's great k/9 & bb/9 any day. who cares how many he k's or walks as long as he gets the job done. Because the hits and walks are much better indicators of what he will do in the future than Save percentage or ERA(especially for relievers).
  10. not a free agent, but definitely an interest in trade talks, but the nats should stick with church, wilkerson, guillen if they were smart. But we know they arent so id ask. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Free_Agents_2005-2006_season guillen a free agen with a club OPTION for 2006 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5753
  11. What?!?!?!? I know 2b is a more offensive position but you are talking about getting rid of a guy who will make ~3M and has averaged 850 OPS and 16/20 in SB over his first 3 full major league seasons. Yeah, thats not talent. Think of it this way. Giles + Draft pick compensation + 7M (difference between their salaries) > Furcal + trade return for Giles. fixed, remember we are talking about an extremely cash strapped org here. I guess it all depends on who you get for Giles, but for the money they would save they could pick up a pretty good pitcher and another arm for the pen, both areas that need addressing. Unless they can fix both of those cheaply in a Giles trade, I dont see it making them a better ball club. JeffH was talking about talent level, which to me is indpendent of salary implications(of course excepting the one that forces them to choose between Furcal and Giles).
  12. Guillen is not a free agent. His option was picked up by the Nats during the season. Nor is he a headcase, and I wouldn't mind him at a corner OF spot at all.

  14. Furthermore, do you know what close and late is? It IS THE PRESSURE SITUATIONS. FARNSWORTH PERFORMS THE SAME IN THOSE SITUATIONS AS HE DOES IN ANY OTHER SITUATION. But let's take 2 playoff outings and paint Farnsworth as a chokeaholic. What about the 1.2 innings he pitched in a tie game to keep us in the game during Game 1 of the NLCS? Came in with a runner on first, one out and the heart of the order due up. He K'd two guys to end the inning, then got Cabrera, Conine, and Encarnacion in the 8th to keep the score tied. Pretty clutch if you ask me. Same thing in the NLDS Game 1 for '03. He came in with the bases loaded, 2 outs then K'd the guy, and mowed down the Braves the next inning for good measure. Was he a choking dog then? So, if we're going to use two playoff outings to paint Farnsworth as "gutless" and "Calvin Schraldi in tight pants", then I say these two outings qualify him for best postseason pitcher of all time.
  15. Basically, I'm pretty sure it's an age thing, BABIP is like AVG in that it deteriorates with age for the same reasons. Someone else can likely explain better than I. Relating to Lofton, he was in a decline before this year, and had been around a .300 BABIP for about 6 years. This year, .365. As you can see, it's well out of line for what he's been doing since his Cleveland days. That's why some(myself included) are predicting a precipitous decline for Mr. Kenny.
  16. Haha, completely unsubstantiated. People remember failures much more than successes. But whatever, continue your ridiculous, baseless bashing of Farnsworth.
  17. Tennessee's the only team that isn't in the bottom 10 in PPG too though, they haven't exactly been shutting down offenses as capable as the Rams.
  18. I don't think there's any way the Cubs get A-Rod and Romero for Hill, Cedeno, and throw-ins. The Twins get worked over in that deal. They don't need to clear THAT much payroll. They should be okay dealing one of Torii or Radke.
  19. Those two sentences have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Damon isn't even close to having FA bust all over him, and if your justification is a throwing arm, you really need to remember to add the sarcasm smiley. I would argue Damon is a low risk chance to bust. 31 isn't knocking down the crypt, and he is one of the most diligent people I've met in the baseball world at taking care of his body. He's never had a serious injury and the fewest number of game he has played for his career as a starter is 145 (twice back in KC). Damon will be 32 next year, the majority of his next contract will be played past his prime. He benefits from his home park, and even with that he's not a top notch offensive outfielder. Paying more than 8 million and/or for more than 3 years will make him a bust. Again, there are few players worth 10 million dollars on the FA market, and Damon certainly isn't good enough to be one of them.
  20. If that's the case, then we need to trade him to the ChiSox pronto for their minor league version of Carlos Lee.
  21. I'm not listening. Anyone taking Rowand to task for showing bunt before the pitch was delivered? Fundamentals!
