  1. That's quite a stretch. By the same logic, if the man she attacked wasn't an athlete, Mrs. Bradley could be charged with the same. But nothing in those reports even comes close to attempted murder.
  2. And most importantly, the "beating" of his pregnant wife: What would you call this? A gentle love tap? He choked her and bloodied her lip. My wife (who is pregnant) and I have argued since she became pregnant, and some how I have managed to not assault or batter her. Go look up the definition of a "battery" if you want to see what I mean. And everything is "alleged" (including most of the rumors we discuss on this bd.), but when a person has a history of violent conduct as Bradley does, it is more likely to be true. Here's the point. Bradley and his wife both have gotten physical with each other multiple times in arguments. His wife felt it wasn't bad enough to press charges, and she even had a chance when Bradley wasn't around. Someone outside the situation had the chance and declined as well. Since you've apparently already discounted the chemistry aspect, does this situation really make Bradley a dispicable human being as not to pursue him?
  3. You just hit on the key point. An record is not the same as an "allegation." They are two completely different things. A record is sufficient grounds to deny employment. An allegation is not, as it obviously doesn't include due process and a conviction. Yep, in my limited job experience, they don't ask you what crimes you were charged with, only convicted.
  4. :?: Didn't he and Skinner but heads? Not to my knowledge. If they did it certainly wasn't a big issue.
  5. ALLEGEDLY Also in that article: And most importantly, the "beating" of his pregnant wife:
  6. Lucky timing is all. Correcting something isn't trying to discredit you. If I wanted to attack the argument I would've added to the correction.
  7. You mentioned the Cubs having not won it in a century...that kind of irresponsibility is a very big reason why they haven't. Yea, you're right pal. Stuff like trading Greg Maddux had nothing to do with it. Blame the accountants, off with their heads! Greg Maddux was never traded away.
  8. The Cubs have a payroll that won't go above X. It won't go above X because the Cubs are owned by a public company, that has more obligations than a private owner. When you spend a lot of X on players that are okay, you eliminate the money you may need to fill other holes, especially in future years. How do you think the Cubs got all the money to spend?
  9. Yeah, Damon and Pierre are both average defenders. Both have terrible arms, and Damon is better at getting to balls. EDIT: On the whole Pierre is below average, and Damon is above average slightly, but Damon was poor like Pierre this past year.
  10. He only played 7 games at short, only started 5 of them. He now has 3.136 years of ML service time, meaning he is eligible for arbi for the first time. Yeah...I wasn't exactly sure how long he'd been up to the big leagues......and regardless of how many games he had at short, a statement of "he ended up playing both 2B and SS for the A's this past season" is an accurate one. However "he was signed on as the backup for Crosby on the 05 season" is not. He was signed on as the starting second baseman (to split time with Keith Ginter), Marcus Scutaro was the backup shortstop from day 1. Thanks for the correction.....please continue to serve your fellow NSBB members and continue to look for menial statements to correct them on. I guess that makes you feel "bigger". It's one thing if a stat is posted incorrectly.....but let's attempt letting the not-so-trivial tidbits slide by? OKAY? Thanks!! He was just setting the record straight, don't take things so personally.
  11. Ryan's WHIP was similar to past years for Eyre in '03, but he also struck out 11+ batters per 9 innings, and had a .615 OPS against. He was very good that year.
  12. Never pitched in a late-season pennant race? That would be about 32nd on the things I'd be concerned about Ryan.
  13. Bradley did not "wear out his welcome" in Cleveland. I lived there during his time there, the fans didn't hate him, and he wasn't in bad graces with management. He was traded because he reached arbitration on a tight payroll team that had Sizemore ready to take his place.
  14. Last 3 years: OBP Jones: .335, .315, .319 Ibanez: .345, .353, .355 OPS Jones: .797, .742, .757 Ibanez: .799, .825, .791 There's an appreciable difference between Ibanez and Jones, especially considering Ibanez's numbers the last two years have been in Seattle. Also, who is our current backup corner infielder that makes Ibanez redundant in that department?
  15. The opposite. Several reports(including Hendry himself I believe) said that Pie would have been up last year if not for his injury.
  16. I don't know if I can adequately express how angry I'll be if we trade Todd Walker for Soriano.
  17. Didn't the SunTimes say Pudge was a Cub too? I think the Score said something like it, but I don't think any newspapers reported it. Not 100% sure though.
  18. @ 2-3 times the cost. FYI, Neither Ryan nor Wagner were ever options for the Cubs since the day the Cubs signed Dempster to an extension. He's also several years younger and his numbers are much better, hence the higher cost. You're probably right on the second point, which shows a lack of imagination on Hendry's part. Would you rather have Ryan @ 5 yrs. 47 mil or Dempster @ 3/ 15.5? Both were in their 1st year as closers. FYI, Ryan is 29 & Dempster is 28 It's not an either/or decision. explain You get both. Signing Ryan doesn't mean you have to get rid of Dempster, and having Dempster doesn't mean you can't go after Ryan. It's a moot point now with Ryan signed to a huge contract.

  21. Considering how this market is blowing up Furcal is getting at least 5/60. That's not too much worse in my mind, but I'd say that's the high end of what Furcal is going to get.
  22. It doesn't take a crystal ball to look at the numbers of Howry, Eyre, and Ryan, and come to the conclusion that Ryan is a safer bet to repeat his numbers from the past few seasons.
  23. You know, I saw the title of this thread, and I was going into it thinking we'd see that Furcal was close to signing for 4/40 or whatever, and I was going to be okay with that. I'd accepted the fact that overpaying Furcal was going to be an unfortunate necessity. Then I opened the thread to see the most nightmarish rumor I've ever seen. However, there is hope. ITI is a well done site, but they don't have a lot in the way of rumor credibility, as hawkeyecub pointed out earlier.
  24. See Cpatt? Even the mods are onto you. brb getting own material By "getting" do you mean paying someone to think it up for you? That's a good one, how much do you want for it?
  25. Ironic isn't it? Do you think if Nomar was more 'motivated' he could have avoided such an injury? And here we are two years after the trade, counting on Murton and watching backwards Ramon take 55 out of town. Nomar has one of the most intense workout regimens in baseball. I think SI did a story on a while back. Good point. Don't try to piggyback his thoughts. Right. CPatterson never has an original thought. Gimme a break. See Cpatt? Even the mods are onto you. brb getting own material
