  1. this was never a potential trade. it was bruce saying that hendry valued hill so highly that he probably wouldn't have traded him straight up for dunn last year. It's very telling, too. Because Hill was Hendry's "prized prospect" and he's absolute junk. ....and Marshall was known only to those who follow our minor league system closely, yet he is far and away the better hurler. That's because Hill was far and away closer to the Major Leagues level-wise than Marshall. BA ranked Marshall 7th in the system prior to '05, Hill 24th(of note: Hill broke out during '05). Prior to this year, Hill was 5th and Marshall was 6th, and that was with Hill having the best season of his life, and Marshall having his cut short with injury. Essentially you have it backwards. Marshall was always well thought of as a prospect, while Hill needed an All-World season to cement his status as a good prospect.
  2. Barrett was winding up to clock Podsednik too until the umpire grabbed him. Would have liked to see that. Barrett would have killed him. Oh man, you could see Pods bracing for it too. He would've been Farnsworthed for sure.
  3. 9+ out of 10 people slide around the catcher in that situation. Heck, even when catchers actually HAVE the ball 9+ out of 10 people try to slide around. What AJP did wasn't really wrong, but it was pretty unnecessary, and I can see why Barrett would be pissed.
  4. I didn't see it, but apparently Anderson went to town on him, and he fought back in true Tavarez style.
  5. .229/.268/.288/.556 in 187 PA's
  6. Oh yeah, in the video it's really clear that if the home plate umpire didn't grab Barrett, Podsednik was going to get the beatdown of a lifetime.
  7. He's in the process of receiving the throw(even though he doesn't have it yet), so he's allowed to be there.
  8. Trucking over Barrett is clean I guess, but it's still uncalled for unless you can see the guy has the ball. The same way that when Capuano tried to bluff a tag when Cedeno(?) was retreating to first when there was no throw coming in order to coax a slide. Barrett took exception the same way that Sarge did when that happened, add in the fact that we're on a big slide and it's AJP doing the instigating and you get the brawl.
  9. 3 of Maddux's last 4 starts have been disaster starts. He has a 7.48 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in May.
  10. I would. It's been a year at AA for Marmol (and his major concern is his walks) and Gallagher has shown he's ready for promotion with a half season of dominance in the FSL. If that happens, I'd send the remaining person in the rotation from Walrond/O'Malley to the pen (leaving Iowa with a rotation of Guzman/Ryu/Hill/Williams/Marmol). That's what I'd probably do too. Tough break for Walrond though.
  11. A 24 year old that wants to be considered a prospect is old for AA. Just about everyone on the high side of the average is roster filler, non-prospects. This is especially true in Sing's case because he was a High School draftee, so it's not like he just hasn't had the time in the system to advance that far.
  12. Hypothetical: West Tennessee ends the first half of the season, and Marmol and Gallagher have maintained their current performance. Do you promote both of them? How does the Iowa rotation shake out if that happens(keeping in mind that Hill will likely be back there by this time)?
  13. No he didn't. If he gets suspended, what he did is give an opportunity to play in the majors to one of our current minor league catchers. A team can't play with only one active catcher, so a roster move would have to be made to bring up a catcher. Presumably that catcher would get some of the starts. My guess would be Theriot would go back down and an Iowa catcher would come up. Come on, Blanco would start just about every game if that happens.
  14. Hot shot to third, Ramirez didn't glove it right away, awkwardly stepped on third to barely get Iguchi, then Mabry had to pick the throw out of the dirt.
  15. Wot he say ? I only get the Mets/Yankees ? He basically said that there's a lot of SS's that could make that play, which is completely false. Now he's saying that Hill threw the ball to the backstop on purpose to intimidate Thome, even though Barrett was set up on the outside corner.
  16. In related news, Pierre's OPS may dip below .550 today.
  17. Someone tell Jackson that A-Rod won the MVP when he wasn't on a contender.
  18. Who thought it was a good idea to make Darrin Jackson a network TV analyst?
  19. I just came to make this post. Bring him back please.
  20. He's always been pretty old for his level when he's had success, and he was unable to continue the success he had in A and AA at Iowa this year offensively. While he's not an abomination at 1B or in the OF, his defense isn't going to be considered a plus. But basically he's been very old for the levels he's had success at, and was terrible in AAA before he was demoted.
  21. Hitting for power was the big concern with Murton. I thought he'd hit a little more than he is right now(I predicted .340/.420 OBP/SLG for him), and maybe he still will with a hot streak and summer days at Wrigley with the wind blowing out. That said, considering his .721 OPS comes with a .356 OBP right now, I'm hesitant to call him a liability all things considered.
