  1. Zambrano would most likely throw 130 pitches and start every single game if we went to the playoffs. We'd be favorites to win the world series for sure then, but it would probably kill Zambrano.
  2. So this is a more general question, but it seems like a decent place to ask it. Can plate discipline really be taught to players at the minor league level and up? My brother believes players are too ingrained in their approach by the time they reach professional baseball (minors on up) to undergo radical change. I don't follow minor league baseball enough to know if low OBP guys commonly learn to take walks, or if that's a rarity. If it's a high school player I think that his discipline and judgement can be changed if the team jumps on the issue rather quickly. I believe that we had a good chance at changing Harvey, but the Cubs were slow and lazy to approach the problem and it only became more engrained in him. At this point I highly doubt anything will change barring a major, major change in organizational philosophy and coaching.
  3. Since most everyone here is from Illinois, did anyone ever watch Sam Hurd and if so what were your thoughts on him? So far in Cowboys' camp he's look very impressive. He's been catching everything in sight, and has also made a number of nice leaping/diving grabs as well. With both TO and Glenn out, he's made it up to 1st team offense for the time being. Something amazing IMO is that TO has actually taken Hurd under his wing, staying late after practice working with him on catching and other fundamentals.
  4. Didn't Harvey tear his ACL last year and then have knee/hamstring problems in spring training this year?
  5. Yahoo hasn't updated their players in include Matt Garza yet, I'll probably forget too grab him by the time they do update :(
  6. How much would Girardi really cost in a trade? When the Mariners allowed Piniella to go to Tampa Bay, it cost the Rays Randy Winn and they received a minor league SS in the deal too. Basically that's like giving up Angel Pagan to the Cubs...is that price really too high?
  7. Donuts suck in general. Occationally I'll have an apple fritter but usually I stick with eggs.
  8. I'm confused, what's going on? I tried to check the league message board but there are no posts, at least as far as I could tell. I'm signed up for the one that has 10 teams in it now. Roast meant to move the draft forward in that league but forgot to so most people were caught unprepared at the time of the draft. He has created a new league named "NSBB Football" with the password "cubs". He asked everyone to move to the new league, but I don't see why we can't do both...
  9. I moved my team, but I hope to keep my old team as well if that league is active.
  10. I don't think it's a done deal that he'll be a Yankee. I believe that he'll be a free agent so he'll get to choose where he wants to go to. While Hideki Matsui has had success there, Kaz Matsui was pretty much disrespected, ran out of town, and now isn't even in the majors. I think he'll go to a smaller market club, probably somewhere on the west coast so that he's closer to home. Seattle fits that as do a few other teams.
  11. I've got a free subscription and can view it:
  12. Boras and the Cubs seem to work well together. They do, but without Boras we can Z to a much more reasonable contract...of course I'd pay the man anything he wanted but the Cubs probably won't.
  13. What's the book on him? The only info I've found was on the WNCC website and it said he featured a 90-MPH FB...decent for CC I guess but unless he's got advanced secondary pitches I don't see him having much success.
  14. I think it's a combination of players throwing harder than ever, and pitches like the curve, slider, and other pitches that put so much stress on the elbow and shoulder.
  15. I saw his K/BB numbers and started to wonder about that, I was having a hard time believing that such an advanced college pitcher was having so many problems with control.
  16. Wow, that took long enough to get him back in action. This is the first time he's pitched in almost a month.
  17. Wow that's a majorly backloaded contract. What is the Mets' payroll like? IMO that may handcuff them down the road.
  18. Lincecum last start, Miller this time...Pawelek has faced some pretty good pitchers so far this year.
  19. How do you think that will impact Aramis' decision regarding the opt-out clause, and what will Hendry do now? My opinion: the price for Aramis is now 5 years $55M. Do you really think ARam will want almost $2 million more per year than Wright is getting now? IMO he's not too smart if he's hoping to get more than probably the best thirdbaseman in the game right now.
  20. That's pretty impressive considering how much season is left. Maybe because there haven't been any hurricanes rolling through? They've probably had just as many rain outs without the hurricanes as they would've had with them this year it seems like though.
  21. Impressive for a #8 hitter. Well, impressive for a catcher too. The NL Central has some pretty good hitting catchers this year; Ross has been good in Cincy, Barrett for us, Paulino for Pittsburgh.
  22. Is it possible for Hernandez to walk?
  23. 6 IP. Only 4 hits given up too. Oops, thanks for catching that. I think another 8IP performance for Hill would be pretty good today.
