  1. Does anyone know where this kid came from? He doesn't seem to have any power, but he makes a fair bit of contact and has a decent eye at the plate. With Valentin, Tirado, and Samson, it seems like Mesa has a fair bit of young talent at SS.
  2. Huseby's WHIP is now sitting nicely at 1.00 (albeit only in 5 innings of work), but his 1-5 GO-FO ratio could use some work still though.
  3. I say we set up a donation to send NCCF to the opening game for the Cubs next year. Since they're already cursed, his presence will uncurse them and we'll win it all....and NSBB/NCCF will break the curse!
  4. And just what were you doing at the time you looked at that box score?
  5. MILB says that they won 9-3?
  6. A golden sombrero for Nevin to end the game :(
  7. Bad throw by ARam, nice play by Jones and Barrett to get Bell at the plate.
  8. Maybe Brownlie should go the other way and turn into a hitter.
  9. Did Milwaukee already get rid of the chorizo? I didn't see it in that replay of the race (not that I care really).
  10. As bad as it sounds I'm actually glad he's struggling right now. After pretty much breezing through the FSL, I think it's good for him to face some adversity. Hopefully it'll make him stronger mentally, and make him even more hungry to improve his game. If he can rise to the challenge that's great, if not it just lets us know we can't push him as hard.
  11. Not so good for Petrick tonight: 5.1IP, 8H, 5ER, K, BB, 3 HR's, 7-7 GO-FO Grant Johnson replaced him in the 6th after Petrick gave up his 3rd homer, and his line so far is 1.2IP, 2H, 2/0 K/BB, WP, 1-1 GO-FO Mota and Spearman both have doubles, while Spearman has added a SB as well. Lane and Price both have 2 singles, Lane has scored the Cubs' only run so far. Simokaitis has added a single and an RBI, Harvey is 0-4 with 2K's. D-Cubs are down 5-1 in the top of the 8th.
  12. I think one thing that hurts alot of Asian pitchers that come over to America is that by the time they get over here they're all close to 30, and none of them throw hard. I really can't remember an Asian pitcher that has come over here and threw harder than 90-92. While that's decent, it isn't going to get blown by anyone. Japanese baseball seems based more around offspeed pitches and deception which don't work as good over here. Matsuzaka can throw harder and is already learning to adapt his game to the American style which should benefit him. He should have a few good seasons and maybe be someone's ace for a couple, but his success won't last forever.
  13. I'm not so sure about that, a hip flexor injury has a range of effects. He could have problems driving off that leg while running, if it's his back leg he probably wouldn't be able to drive off of it in the batter's box either. Much of your lower abdominal strength can also be tied in to your hip flexor.
  14. Moore's problematic. As a third baseman, his value isn't too bad overall. 20-25 HRs isn't much of a stretch, walks at a decent rate, and can steal a few bases. There are plenty of third basemen in the league worse than that. However, his defense is what could really hurt him. Apparently he's been improving on it recently, but if he can't stick at 3B and will be forced to move into the OF or 1B, his value plummets. All of a sudden, his offense doesn't look quite as good. If he can stick at 3B, I like his chances. He makes alot of errors, but he was voted as the best defensive 3B in his league. Ron also said that there's no doubt in his mind that Moore's defense is ML quality.
  15. Wow, he's more snake-bit than the Cubs are sometimes.
  16. No names? I bet it was Cedeno, maybe his eyes wander from time to time and that's the reason for his errors!
  17. Gallagher!! and St. Petrick's Day!!....I can't believe I'm the first one to say both so late in the day.
  18. Just as long as both Simon and Cora stay away from us, I'm alright with that. I don't thing Simon has ever been considered overly intelligent so that move would hurt the Sox which would please me.
  19. Poop. I could've swore that on ESPN they mentioned something about people in the Marlins' organization were so sure Girardi was gone that they started setting up the press conference. I think this might be something to smooth things out for now, but he'll probably be gone at the end of the year.
  20. The thing I don't like about the new program is that they don't say exactly what you tested positive for (atleast not that I've found). It could be steroids, andro. amphetamines...a large number of things. While cheating is cheating, I wish they'd atleast release what these players are testing positive for exactly.
  21. In 2 starts with the Dodgers: 1-0, 2 GS, 12IP, 7H, 2R, 5/4 K/BB, 0.67 ERA, 0.92 WHIP....we're not cursed.
  22. Yankees 13th round draft pick from this year's draft, Daniel McCutchen a P from Oklahoma, has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and has been suspended for 50 games. With all of the minor leaguers being caught, I'm not sure if I should be encouraged that the system is working or discouraged because of all the ones most likely getting away with it. Story
  23. Ugh, swept by Carolina. Jinxed by NCCF. ](*,) You should change NCCF's member group from 5-Time All Star to "The Real Curse"
  24. Thank you. Although, plate discipline wasn't his only problem this season. For August through Aug 6 his BABIP is .529. Somehow I don't think that's sustainable. How dare you steal my thoughts and post them faster than I can?
  25. His hot streak can be tied to an incredibly high BABIP too: BABIP By Month- April .184 May .217 June .333 July .351 August .529 (through the 6th) Somehow his overal BABIP is only .292, but when those numbers by month come back down to earth I think his production will plunge. He also hits alot more flyballs than linedrives which will catch up to him IMO when he starts playing against better fielding players.
