  1. Yes, Jeremy is the hard-throwing, left-handed brother of Jon. In just a second I'll get all of the links posted. Bio Stats From what I can tell he's a hard-thrower with pretty good control. He's a bit on the small side for a power pitcher though which is odd for the Cubs. I've got no clue what he throws though.
  2. The Cubs grab Jeremy Papelbon LHP U. North Florida.
  3. Former Cub draftee Tyler Graham goes to the Giants.
  4. Lutz was picked by the Reds in round 19.
  5. Wow I didn't realize how long the draft used to be...3 days long would have sucked.
  6. Is Huber still a better prospect than Buck, or is he going to move out from behind the plate.
  7. Roll Call is going on right now, today will be at a rapid fire pace. There will only be breaks after round 30 and 40.
  8. Bias is awesome. I'm not a huge ND (infact, I'm hoping Quinn takes a nosedive so that he'll last until the Cowboys' pick) but I'd say out of all draft eligible players in the upcoming draft (juniors and seniors), he's a top 3-5 WR. With the depth that there will be at WR, I see a major run of them and he could easily end up in the top 15. WRs his size with good hands, route running, and decent speed don't grow on trees.
  9. We could go all-out and make a team of Carlos'. Carlos Lee in LF, Beltran in CF, Guillen as SS, Delgado at 1B, Zambrano and Silva in the rotation, Marmol, Martinez, and Villanueva in the bullpen, and Ruiz at C. Not quite a full team, but that is all the Carlos' listing by Yahoo.
  10. With how sweet his stuff is, I deem his new nickname Carlos Marmol-ade (joke on marmalade for those who are a little bit slow).
  11. With all of this whining and moaning about steroids, wouldn't it just be easier to publish a list of who HASN'T taken or been linked to steroids?
  12. I had alberto as an infielder all year cause thats how is listed in the Cubs media guide. Carter will not catch here at all/ He is strictly an OF at this time. I could see him behind the plate, if and only if, Reed DH's and Muyco has to be taken out of the game... Have the Cubs scrapped the idea of Yusef catching? I saw him working with the low-A kids at catcher when I was in Mesa, so it can't be that out of the question so soon. In his write-up on prospects after the draft last year, T2E stated that Carter had both the arm and the speed to play CF. I think more than anything right now is an adjustment period for him. He's probably been working mostly as a C in Arizona, but with the logjam at C in the system he moved to the OF instead and was able to start playing sooner. Once he gets a feel for where he is on the field and tracking flyballs, I think he'll start doing better. Nathan, let me know if you think that I'm wrong because this is all just my opinion.
  13. Dopirak's bat hasn't lit the world on fire since he came back, but it's nice to see him striking out less and taking a few more walks. He doesn't seem to have lost anything defensively after the foot injury so hopefully if his bat comes back around he'll be considered a top prospect once again.
  14. Ok, day one is over now and maybe that is for the better. Day 2 will be rounds 19-50 and will begin at 11AM CT. There are still guys like Jason Jarvis and Derrick Lutz out there. There are also still intriguing college bats like Mike Goetz and Mark Shorey out there as well. It'll be interesting to see how the 2nd day shakes out.
  15. If it is one of the girls off of his myspace friends list, I may start trying to impersonate him just to hook up with them. EDIT: Here is his myspace for those who haven't seen it. Just for the record, "The Girl Next Door" is my personal favorite but " ♥ Dont hate me cause I got what you want! " is an extremely, extremely close 2nd.
  16. Everything I've heard has him in the 10-20 range of the first round. If he drops into the 2nd round, Mark Bradley got about $2 million in guarantees. If he gets taken in the first 20 picks of the NFL draft, I will piss my pants. He's far and away the No. 1 WR in the draft right now, so I'd have to think he'll be a top-20 pick. He's not really fast, but could be a very good possession receiver a la Keyshawn in the League. How does Sammy chose to play WR, and pitcher in the two sports? Most pitchers who had played football, ended being the QB. Him choosing WR over QB, would be an interesting story. There is no way that he can or will play NFL and MLB at the same time. It's simply impossible for a pitcher. And no, I haven't heard anything about his ultimate choice either, but my gut feeling is he sticks with football. We'll see though. It'd be exciting to have my favorite college baseball player with the Cubs. Most of the people switching from baseball into football as a QB weren't pitchers. Quincy Carter, Matt Mauck, and Drew Henson were all 3B. Chad Hutchinson is the only P that converted into a QB that I can think of off the top of my head. Farnsy and Sisco never played pro or even college football for that matter...they just happened to have the build to do so.
  17. I think that people under-estimate Samardzija's speed. Since he's 6'5" he's a long strider so he covers alot of ground but it doesn't look like it. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him run somewhere between 4.48 and 4.52.
  18. Nope, just a freshman this year. OK I saw a post with his stats awhile back and figured he was going to go this year. I believe he'll be a draft eligible Soph. next year because of his age. I wonder if he went to a prep school or something after HS, because he's a 20 year-old Freshman.
  19. Besides Samardzija, not really. There seem to be alot of unknowns in this draft right now...I hope Wilken turns out to be a genius.
  20. My team's ESPN has gone up 5 points to 186, but my rank has dropped to a tie for 212th place.
  21. He could be bulked up into a TE. The ND football forums I went to, to check on him think he can somehow pitch in the minor leagues while he's playing in the NFL, since a pitcher only has the pitch "once every 5 days". Never mind how badly he'd get dinged up in the NFL and how tiny injuries can screw up your mechanics. I don't think he's got the frame to bulk up and be a TE. He's tall and slender, TE's are much wider.
  22. His HS baseball team has their own website here. I didn't find much in the way of stats, but if you do a site search for his name you'll find a bunch of picture galleries and some stat blurbs. He seems to be a K machine...several clippings there have him striking about 7 and 11 guys in a game. It mentions him as a closer and reliever mostly, but there are also articles about him throwing up to 7 innings in a game so I believe he can do both.
  23. And our 18th round pick is Jose Hernandez RHP from Fla (HS).
  24. Cripes, the guy hit .358 and his OPS is only .843, and he made 11 errors in 56 games at second. No patience, no power, and apparently no defense. I wonder what his BABIP is? He only has 11K's and 16BBs so that leads me to believe he makes alot of contact.
