Lane is a 2B that played at Grand Canyon College in Arizona. He wasn't a DFE or a 5th-year senior, so I'm guessing we signed him as a free agent here recently. According the BA's minor league transactions, we signed him sometime between May 9 and May 24th. His college's website is messed up, but from all of the box scores I can find he makes alot of contact and was the #3 hitter in their lineup.
Maybe he can still get in as an alternate? I know that the minors probably don't have the same problems with players not wanting to play in AS games, but if someone tweaks something between now and then I'd say he's still got a shot.
Most mocks have the Pirates taking a P, but I don't agree with that. They've got quite a few good arms in their system, I think that they'll take Stubbs here. His speed and defensive skills fit nicely in PNC.
I'd guess they were trying for Hairston; the Cubs asked for Alomar Jr in return. LA thought we were being sarcastic so they blew us off...little did they know we were serious.
We go for first to 5 votes or the player with the most votes in 12 hours. Oh come on, doing this the political way would be so much more fun...though we'd all lose a few brain cells and we'd probably never finish....but who cares? [/sarcasm]
Well Kurt Suzuki has been struggling up until recently in AA; maybe we can get Beane drunk and trade Walker for Suzuki straight up? I know we've got a bit of a traffic jam at C, but I believe that before that draft it was mentioned that he might have to move out from behind the plate anyways.
With more digging around I found DePoy's numbers as of yesteryday: 12IP (4 games) 11k/6bb 11 hits 5ER 3.75ERA His WHIP is less than impressive as is his control. I wonder if he's just been spending time hitting the weights and cleaning up his mechanics or if he's just been injured.
Cody Gilbert has been on fire. He moved to LF sometime during the season, but from that stat link he's hitting .343 with 14HRs and 40 rbi. He's also pitched 8 2/3 innings and picked up a save. While the move to the OF decreases his value slightly, that bat would still look excellent in the OF for us.
Here is a link to stats for the region he plays in. There are 5 San Jacinto pitchers in the top 46 listed, and he isn't one of them. Here is a link to his league's stats, and he isn't in their top 22 pitchers either. Either he's flat out sucked, or he's injured and hasn't even thrown 36 innings this year. WARNING: Both links are to PDF files. I've got Dsl and they loaded almost instantly, but for someone with a slow connection they may cause problems.

How does Soto compare to someone like a Yadier Molina? Both are excellent defensive catchers with good patience but little power. I haven't seen Soto play be it seems like a likely comparison to me.
Ware is a DFE candidate and I really hope that we sign him. His final stats from JC were .352 avg, .409 obp, .917 ops. He als had 4 HRs, 3 triples, 10 doubles, and was 20-21 in sba. The only drawback was he ended the year with 5 errors.
