  1. What about Izturis and LaRoche for Ramirez? In 2007 put Izturis at SS, Cedeno at 2B, EPatt at Iowa, and then in 2008 decide which two of the three you want to keep. Replace Izturis with Kemp, Guzman, or Billingsley, and it would be a deal. Izturis is not a GOOD player. He is a younger Nefti Perez. The Dodgers wouldn't make that trade (and if I were them, I wouldn't). I think a feasible deal would be LaRoche and Miller for Ramirez, Williamson (once he's healthy), and low prospect. Btw CR, why isn't Miller starting in Las Vegas right now?
  2. if dempster did his job we'd be 32-44 with a .421 winning percentage. that's a heck of a lot better than 28-48 with a .386 winning percentage Even if he converts those other 4 chances, we're still 10 games out and 5 games behind the 4th place Astros. We're also still 8.5 out of the wild card...the only thing we'd be closer to is Dusty's extension.
  3. It appears as though Cuban is interested in a Pittsburgh team but, but it's the Penguins instead of the Pirates. According to Yahoo, he's joining up with Marino to try and buy them. There is a blurb at the very end about both parties also being interested in the Pirates but the owners don't want to sell. LINK
  4. I have a screencap, but it didn't turn out well, it's all blurry. I'll post it if you really want. So where is it? I'd really love to see a photo or something of this....even better would be the audio for the conversation between the sign-holder and security but I'm guessing no one has that.
  5. I wasn't meaning over an entire season because that would be almost impossible, but there are many pitchers in the majors who can have a bad day control wise and still get out pretty good with groundballs. IMO it's the mark of a true pitcher to be able to get out of rough situations unscathed on days when they don't have their A-game.
  6. That's not necessarily saying that he's extending him, he's just giving him a chance to prove him self. Not that I agree with it but it's not a firm backing either. I'm hoping this is a ploy by Hendry to give Baker a false sense of security while we're working on finding a replacement so that he doesn't give up on his job and let the team go complete down the crapper but that isn't too far away at this point.
  7. Ramirez, Hill and other prospect for Burrell and Utley. Move Utley to third, problem solved. Though, better chance of the Pope getting married than there is of the Phillies trading Utley at this point. Well with the way things have gone with the church lately, does it have to be a straight marriage? On a serious note though I can't see the Phils parting with either Utley or Howard for anything.
  8. I'm not sure if they'll be looking for pitching or not. Myers and Hamels are a good base, they'll have both Wolf and Lieber returning, Floyd in AAA, plus guys like Segovia and Haigwood in AA. They're rather thin on offensive prospects IMO so they may hold on to what they've got for the time being and hope for the return of the vets plus the a boost from the youngsters to get them where they're going.
  9. If the Cubs trade Ramirez, Neifi will start at 3B every single day for the rest of Dusty's contract....now do you really want that to happen?
  10. Not necessarily, if you're an extreme groundball pitcher like Z is you can get by without K'ing alot of players and having high walks. I know that Z has the capability to K any batter, but even when he's off he still gets out of trouble DPs and keeping to ball on the ground.
  11. Sad to hear; even though he spews alot of BS, he's still a rather respected figure in some circles. Also, I can't believe that he's only 61, by the looks of him I could've swore he was in his 70's already.
  12. Hey Ron, what's up with Dopirak this year? I know you mentioned that he was still limping a little bit; do you think that his foot injury is the cause of his drop in production? He looks like he's got a better eye at the plate and his his OBP and AVG are pretty good but that power has me worried.
  13. How much would we have to give up for them though? I'd be willing to give up ARam, Murton, and any one of the young pitchers except Marmol and I don't think that'd be enough to get it done.
  14. No, they'd probably just DFA him and let Theriot come sit on the bench.
  15. Exactly the same for me. I'm a bit of an Oakland fan as well since the Rockhounds are rather close, even though I've never been to a game. I've got a friend who got Zito's auto when he was pitching there as well as several others. If it weren't for the price of gas (and the fact that I don't have a vehicle that'd get me there) I wouldn't mind making to 3-3 1/2 trip every once in awhile.
  16. Why did Minnesota put him on waivers? Did he just happen to blossom in Boston? I don't really remember him, but then again I rarely paid much attention to the Twins. His best season in Minny was in 02, right before he was put on waivers. He put up a line of .272/.339/.500/.839 with 20HRs and 75 RBI in 125 games. That's not bad and he was only 26 that year. Since he hadn't spent much time in the majors prior to that I wouldn't think it was a contractual problem, IMO it was just sheer stupidity.
  17. What's the '1337' joke? I don't get it. 1337 explained.
  18. Ya just ignore it, the problem will fix itself  Lee is the super star on this team, he's the one that needs to stand up and fight the horrible play thus far. I think it was smart of him to keep quiet while he was out, but now that he's back playing at a pretty good level considering the amount of time he's missed he's got every right to voice his opinion. If Pierre came out and said this I'd have a problem with it, Lee was the right person to do this.
  19. Quakers, how did Castillo look at the plate in your opinion? After a break in production from Latin America, it'd be nice to have another young promising prospect.
  20. On sportcenter, they were mentioning that the Red Sox recently gave Ortiz a plaque recognizing him as the greatest clutch hitter in Red Sox's history. They also said that the only way he could be more comfortable at the plate would be to bring a chais lounge, some Cuban Cigar, and some drinks with him.
  21. Another nice start by Blackford, he's been a pleasant surprise so far. At 21 however, I'd like to see him get moved up soon. I know that he isn't extemely over aged for low-A but at the same time I'd like to see him prove himself against a higher level of competition sometime this year.
  22. I don't root against the Cubs, I've just pretty much started ignoring them and focusing on my fantasy teams and watching the Rangers. I wouldn't mind seeing them end up in last to (hopefully) force Hendry's hand, but I won't root for their opponents or any other division rivals.
  23. All he got was a 7-day suspension and a $1000 fine...not very harsh at all and nothing like he'd get in the majors.
  24. In times like these, it's often easier to ignore the Cubs and start paying more attention to your other favorite teams so it begs the question: Who is your other favorite team? For me, it's the Texas Rangers because they're closer plus they're both young and good.
