1. So, you kinda have to play Javy everyday right? And you kinda have to play him at 2B, right? Baez 2B > Zobrist 2B Baez 2B > Baez 3B Baez 2B > Baez LF Bryant 3B > Zobrist 2B So, Zobrist to LF, Baez to 2B. I know Joe promised Zobrist he'd be at 1 position....well, he can still keep that promise.
2. Hmmm from what I see it doesn't look that bad. At least not bad enough for the game to be rained out entirely. Perhaps delays. Tuesday doesn't have any major rain in the forecast according to Accuweather and Wednesday it does say 'a couple of showers and thunderstorms'. But its a 12:35 local start for that one, with the Cubs having a night game the next day and the Pirates off so they could withstand some delays. From what I see outside my window (which looks at the stadium), it looks like there may be a delay to start, but it looks like most should pass by gametime, but the delay may be getting the field ready.
3. Weather is looking rough. Another rainout would suck so much ass. And it's not going to get any better all week.
4. The only players left from Trestman/Emery (AKA played more than 1 season w/ the Bears): Cutler Gould Fuller Christian Jones Wilson Bellamy O'Donnell Jeffery Carey McManis Hurst Perry Leno Long Mariani Sutton Washington Ferguson Young Houston The highlighted guys will likely all be on the roster bubble in camp, with 1 of the last 2 being rumored as trade bait. Pace will have overturned 17 of the 22 starters (counting Young/Houston as 1 as both started 8 games in '14 and only 1 will "start" this year) in just 1 seasons worth of games by opening day this year.
5. I don't understand people being even remotely upset about the trade up. They moved up 2 spots and gave up a 4th (which they got back in 24 hours) for a guy they wanted that the Giants 100% would have taken based on all reports. The Bears identified a group of players as elite, a notch above the others and they got the last of that group. Not counting the QBs, that group was Elliott, Buckner, Ramsey, Bosa, Floyd, and maybe Stanley. Floyd was the last of that group and clearly they liked him more than guys like Hargreaves, Lawson and Rankins. I also wouldn't say I agree with your other points. I think the offense will try and do plenty. I also don't think they're THAT thin, but there's going to be a lot of "hoping" with this group. You gotta hope the OTs hold up. Hope Jeffery and Royal stay healthy. Hope White is ready to have a huge role. Hope Langford is the guy he flashed to be when Forte was out last year. Hope Miller stays healthy. I do think it's going to be a heavy run and short pass team though. But the Bears do have a decent group of guys who you can get the ball to early and let them make plays in Jeffery, White, Royal, and Langford. Not a lot of different weapons but if White is really as close to Amari Cooper as he is supposed to be, he and Jeffery will be about as good as it gets in this league as a combo.
6. The Bears also tried to trade with Dallas to jump in front of SD to draft TE, Hunter Henry....who the Chargers did end up taking. I'm kinda glad that didn't happen. I like Henry, but not enough to have given up picks for him.
7. In reality, this is pretty much how I feel without my Cubs fueled sports bravado. Well, if the Bears schedule is easy, the rest of the division will have easy schedules too as the teams only differ by 2 opponents. And 2 of the other 3 teams were playoff teams last year, with 1 of them getting back an elite player (Nelson). But I think there's a chance the Bears can pull it off. Fox has a history of big jumps in his 2nd year. And the Bears lost 7 games by 1 score. Going from possibly the worst front 7 in the league to what should be a top half group could win a lot of those close games this year.
8. Based on the roster, I think the Bears best OL is: LT- Leno, LG- Whitehair, C- Slauson, RG- Long, RT- Massie
9. My top 10 remaining (specific to the Bears): 1. Connor Cook, QB, Mich St 2. Kenneth Dixon, LA Tec 3. Jerell Adams, TE, So Carolina 4. Joshua Perry, LB, Ohio St 5. DJ White, CB, Georgia Tech 6. Pharoh Cooper, WR, So Carolina 7. Dak Prescott, QB, Miss St 8. KJ Dillon, S, WVU 9. Alex Collins, RB, Arkansas 10. Kalan Reed, CB, Southern Miss
10. Damn. Wondered if he would go to LaStella or Bryant there.
11. Eh, I mean I guess that's true. But Marshawn Lynch is only a year away from being a real difference maker and taking a team (along with defense and a QB that didn't make mistakes) to a Superbowl, and probably would have won it for the 2nd year in a row if he got the ball. And there's plenty of very good players out there like McCoy, Le'Veon Bell, Jamaal Charles who are all around players who have been major parts of playoff offenses, 2 of them did so without much QB help.
12. Agree. Too easy to find RB's later on. the only reason he would even be close to available for the Bears at 11 is because of the anti-RB in the first round sentiment. But a truly elite RB is absolutely worthy of the pick. Getting the best RB in the draft at 11 could be much better than getting the 4th linebacker. I think it would be a great use of resources and excellent value to get Elliot at 11. I wouldn't trade up to get him, but this team needs help on offense and they need dynamic players. The likelihood of getting a truly impactful defensive player at 11 seems very low. But if you can get the best skill position player in the draft at 11. Boy howdy, that's good pickin. This is how I feel. The Bears did find 2 solid starters and possible building blocks on D in the 2nd and 5th rounds last year. In a deep defensive draft, they'd still have 3 other top 106 picks to presumably get difference makers, and no reason they can't get really good starters in the 2nd and 3rd on D. A potential top 5 RB in the league added to a top 5-7 WR in the league and the #7 overall pick in last year's draft has the makings of an elite offense. If Elliott is on the board at 11, he's likely going to be the BPA. And the Bears would likely be selecting him over players on D who have more question marks (Rankins- is he a fit?, Floyd- too small?, Lawson- dynamic enough?, Jackson III- reach?).
13. They will all be grandslams too. Back-to-back-to-back grandslams. Don't question it.

15. Run on CBs, Miami selects William Jackson III, CB, Houston
16. Showed a stat last night during the broadcast, but Lester's been pretty good for a while now. If he didn't follow Baseball Jesus in the rotation, we'd have a huge thread dedicated to a guy with a 2.50 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 9.3 K/9 over his last 23 starts.
17. I wonder if tonight/tomorrow may get a little messy. Cubs 5-0 against the Reds, with 4 of them not even remotely close. On paper, the potential for 2 more blowouts is there as the Reds are throwing starters who probably shouldn't be starting major league games. Division rival who the Reds know they will see 12 more times. You had Brennaman with his whining last night. Huge visiting team advantage in the crowd. The one thing I worried about if the Cubs dominated the way they are is to have teams start to throw at them or slide dirty into the bases, etc. Though to be fair, I don't remember a lot of this happening to the Yankees in their heyday.
18. The Cubs saw him as a reliever already this year and he gave up 2 runs, with 2 walks and a HBP in 2 1/3 innings. For some reason, left-handers are only 1-20 vs. Straily this year. Of course, the only hit was a 2-run single to Jason Heyward, and he hit Fowler, walked Montero, and gave up deep fly balls to Zobrist and Rizzo. So, the phrase smoke and mirrors come to mind here. Cubs have outscored them 24-1 thru 2 games, no reason they shouldn't get over 30 runs for the series today.
19. I think Buckner is possible. I think the key spots are the 3-4 teams at 6-8 (I think Cleveland is 3-4, but who knows at this point what they are even doing). Baltimore could certainly take him, but I don't think they'll pass on any of Tunsil, Bosa, or Ramsey, and I think 1 of them could be there (not convinced SD takes OT, Dallas and Jax certainly don't). Tampa and the Giants, both need DEs and they play 4-3, but I see Buckner as more of a 3-4 DE.....though he'd be the BPA after 6 in all foreseeable scenarios.
20. Buckner would be the perfect pick.
