Yeah the defense seems to be taking a lot of heat for almost losing. By all measurements that was a good defensive game, that would look even better if not for the bogus call on the Jackson called back pick 6. And they do have some age on D but also have young talent at every position. Added a ton of youth at CB the last 2 offseasons. Fuller is the "old" guy but he's playing the best he ever has thru 2 games. Jackson is young, Smith is young. The DL guys getting most of the snaps outside of Hicks are young. The OLB starters are old (if you consider Mack old at 29), but with young depth. I think Pace is at least aware that he can't count on an elite defense forever. Nah. It was zone. Trubisky threw it between the underneath LBs and thought he was throwing in front of the CB, but he read Robinson's break and beat him to the ball. I feel like the jump ball int was Robinsons fault. He is our #1, he should be hanging onto it all the way down (It was Robinson on that play, wasn't it?) It's not a good priority, but his 3-5 Mil cap hit won't make or break the team, especially for his production. The issues are going to come from the much bigger contracts to players that may or may not be justified.

Don't hate the deal for Cohen. He is pretty important to the offense and will continue to be going forward if Nagy ever gets things consistently the way he wants. 5-6Mil is not a big deal, even with a lot of commitments next year. And I'm very happy about only 3 years. That deal takes Cohen thru his age 28 season, which is the perfect time to get rid of a RB. He's also a punt returner, and sometimes is good at it.

How long does it take for a team to get burned thinking they got the next Burrow? Mediocre college player early in his career, has a great final year surrounded by NFL talent everywhere, goes early, then flames out horribly.

Hating Baker Mayfield doesn't make you a terrible person. Should be the norm.

FWIW, Trevathan was out there on the Swift drop that lost the game for the Lions. He was chasing Swift across the field and may actually still be trying to catch him. Subbing in Bush may have won them the game, but putting Trevathan back in for that play almost lost it. Also, funny story. I remember my sophomore year in HS we were scrimmaging in the goalline drill and the losing side of the ball had to do pushups or laps or something. I was at TE and got a dump pass that went just like the Swift play. Hit me in the numbers, put my arms around it, turned and I dropped the ball. But because every player was bunched up in the box, it wasn't in the open. So everyone else on the field thought I caught it, turned my back, and spiked the ball between my legs after I scored and won it for my team. And the defense had to do the lap.

Bears can't even afford to tank. Nobody wants the contracts for Mack, Quinn, and Trevathan and the Bears can't get out of those deals in the offseason. Not to mention Goldman comes back next year in the same boat. Jackson and Whitehair are good young pieces, but make a lot. Fuller could save 11Mil if cut this offseason, but still would have 9Mil dead, which means probably a restructure candidate. Hell, even Foles isn't a good financial cut/trade candidate. Guys like Hicks, Massie, and Graham could be cut pretty easily but you'd still need draft picks to replace them.

OR tank the season, give him to the Lions and draft Lawrence The Bears have proven they can't out-tank the Lions. Lawrence dream is dead (unless we can flip Mack for a first still and use that with our mid-round first and 2022 first for a RGIII like Trade-up). Maybe Justin Fields is the realistic dream. Feels like there's been a lot of investment in high end QBs the past few years, so hopefully that dampens the market as teams like the Jets or whatever are still deciding on their investments. Justin Fields is awesome. But looking around the league.... Have Franchise QB: BAL, HOU, TEN, KC, PHI, DAL?, MIN, GB, DET?, ATL, SF?, SEA, ARZ, LAR Recently drafted promising QB: MIA, BUF, CIN, DEN, LAC, WAS, NYG, GB, Probably needs a long-term QB: NYJ, CLE, PIT, JAX, LVR, NO, TB, CAR, Definitely need long-term QB: NE, IND, CHI Not a lot of sure fire QB needy teams. Dallas could join the QB needy, but that would likely take off one of the others. Jets, Browns, Jags have QBs on 15-game auditions and they will all either go down to absolutely need a QB or up to promising QB depending on results. Maybe throw Washington, NYG and Denver here, but I doubt they go QB very early. Detroit SHOULD probably see what they can get for Stafford and start over, but remains to be seen if they will. Teams like NO and TB have HOF QBs on short deals, could draft an heir. Carolina has big money in Bridgewater, but could conceivably move on.

think they can get a 4th? Honestly, that's probably the most for an impending FA that will require close, if not over, 20Mil/year to re-sign.

Snacks Harrison is the biggest name out there, but there are others. Big DTs though are the most likely to opt out. Still unsure if Harrison even wants to play. Jenkins did play and didn't offer much on Sunday. Unfortunately, I think the Bears have too much loyalty to Trevathan to make him a part time player. He'll have to get hurt to get removed from the field. Iggy definitely projects as a pass coverage LB, but undersized against the run. I'd love to see him get some 3rd down reps. Mingo isn't much of a pass rusher, but I did like the way he moved Sunday. Definitely an option inside if Trevathan isn't there.

In fun Bears news: - Allen Robinson has deleted all his Bears related photos on Instagram and taken "Bears" out of his Twitter bio. This was last done by Jordan Howard right before being traded. - There are whispers (ok, 1 small whisper from some dude) that is saying there is a more than 0% chance that Robert Quinn doesn't play this year. Not sure if it's about the ankle injury or if it's COVID related (apparently, he survived a brain tumor in high school where they told him he had a week to live and would never play football again).

Bears coming off a miracle comeback. Giants coming off a bad loss where they could neither run or pass block against an elite defense and traveling on short rest. Before the season, I thought that even if the Bears were a good team this year, they'd probably only still be 3-1 after the first four weeks which are winnable games on paper. That being said, if the Bears fancy themselves as contenders they had better win this game. The Bears won't hold Barkley to 6 yards on 15 carries. Their run D isn't as good as the Steelers without Goldman. The Giants do have some guys that can give the Bears trouble in coverage (Engram, Slayton, and they always have trouble with Golden Tate). But Daniel Jones is likely to give the Bears the ball at least a couple times. And their defense wasn't able to stop the Steelers run game (with a backup RB and 2 backup linemen), pass game, and weren't able to get off the field on 3rd down. If Mitch plays like he did last time, sure they can probably make another 4th quarter comeback and win, but they probably shouldn't. Same game plan as week 1. Stick to the run. Easy reads for Mitch early and hope he can hit some throws before the 2-minute drill. The Giants shouldn't be capable of getting a 23-6 lead like the Lions did, so they shouldn't have to count on Mitch needing to make big throws for 10+ minutes straight.

Some thoughts: - Robinson, Miller, Mooney looks like a really good WR group going forward. Better re-sign Robinson, and Miller only has 1 more year under contract but this could be a strong 3 for a young QB in the future. - OL looked better today than at any point last year. From what I saw, Ifedi looks like an upgrade over Coward and the corpse of Kyle Long from last year. Daniels and Leno were better. Massie still the weak link. - I thought Graham really blew a couple decent throws by mistiming his jumps. The Bears likely score 2 first half TDs if he catches those. - Danny Trevathan looks old and slow. - Khalil Mack looks injured. Dealing with a knee issue this week, couldn't afford to not have him and Quinn. Gotta get both healthy, had nothing else off the edge. I'd probably touch base with the free agents. Cameron Wake, Ziggy Ansah, Jabaal Sheard and Clay Matthews could help this team (if any of them want to play) - I would call Snacks Harrison tonight. Missed that run plugger in the middle at times, especially against Peterson. DL also got little pressure all day. - Jaylon Johnson looks like the real deal. Marvin jones got one against him running in the open field, but his coverage was on point all day. Fuller is also pretty good. - I liked the playcalling for the most part. 3rd and short is still a mystery. But Nagy called a good game, i thought. I liked the way the personnel was used overall. RB touches were nicely distributed, WR targets/reps were nice. Used all the TEs.

I hate this win. Trubisky probably shouldn't play anymore, but he most likely will because of a couple great throws.
