  1. We've been out of the playoffs for like three days. Were they supposed to say they were going to fire him while we were still playing?
  2. Depends too much on what the team they want to trade with needs back / likes the most. I think that Happ and Schwarber are the most likely to be headed out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Almora or even Javy be traded.
  3. Anyway, I don't mind Mallee keeping his job at all. I think there's been plenty of successes to justify it. If they had wanted to replace him with someone else, I would have been fine with that, too. As mentioned by others here and in the Bosio thread, I have plenty of confidence in our front office to find good people for those roles.
  4. And in the last 30 days there have been 4,845 unique users to the site according to google.
  5. I would have felt much worse about this after last year. But we finished 24th in BB% as a pitching staff. Part of that is the guys on the staff. But it also didn't feel like anyone took a step forward this year and several guys took a step back. Maybe it was time for a new voice. I'd be happy if Bosio was back. But I'm fine with the change because I have faith that our FO will identify a very solid guy as the replacement.
  6. Sign one starting pitcher and trade for another. Go all in on trying to sell Otani on the Cubs (I know it is a long shot). Alzolay is not far away from being a contributor in the rotation. They have a few other guys in the low minors that show promise for 2019 or so. There's a bunch of promising arms for the bullpen on the farm, as well. Wilson is a much, much better pitcher than he showed with the Cubs in 2017. They'll probably sign three FA this year, including one from the top group and one loogy. Say the FA are Shaw, Neshek and loogy. That gives you Shaw, Strop, Edwards, Wilson, Monty, Neshek, loogy & minors guy. Shored.
  7. Way to take the post out of context and make a stupid inflammatory statement. Good one. You wonder why a lot of people think this board is full of horsefeathers. Ah-HAH!!! Only, like, 60 people even know this place exists at this point, so IN YOUR FACE WITH A RUBBER MACE. :(
  8. In case anyone doesn't know of this page, here are the winter stats for all cubs minor leaguers in all leagues: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/org.jsp?id=chc
  9. First things first - everyone is under control except for Jay and the backup catchers. Contreras, Rizzo, Baez, Zobrist, Russell, Bryant, Schwarber, Happ, La Stella, Almora and Heyward stand to be back unless someone is moved in a trade. Catcher: I think they'll probably try to sign Rivera to a short-term deal. If they have a lot of faith in Caratini's defense, they could run with him. But I don't think they have that level of confidence. Infield: Don't change a thing Outfield: With Almora as the only OF who hits better against lefties (or much at all), I think they'll try to bring in a right handed OF bat to take Jay's spot. I think they'll shop on Cain, but I don't think they'll want to spend what it takes to land him. I think they'll get involved in the Marlins firesale, but won't give up what it will take to land one of their OF's. Ultimately, I think they just do the bench bat and roll the dice on improved results from Schwarber / Almora / Happ / Heyward / Zobrist / RH Guy. That's it. I think the vast majority of the time is spent on pitching this offseason. If one or more of the above players gets sent out in a trade for pitching, that could obviously change things. But at this point, it ain't broke and doesn't need fixing.
  10. Let's put it this way: Can you name someone you think would be better than Mallee? What do you think is wrong with the approach that can be improved?
  11. Bryant's BB/K has gone from 11.8/30.6 his rookie year to 14.3/19.2 this year. Javy is a bit better in both categories since Mallee has been here. Willson was far from a sure thing when he was promoted and has thrived. If anything, go hire Terry Pendleton as assistant hitting coach and assign him purely to Heyward (Pendleton was the hitting coach his rookie year).
  12. I initially read the title as "Dusty Caned", which tells you everything you need to know about how I feel about the guy.
  13. lol - they're pitching Jansen with a 10 run lead.
  14. I'm thinking the best offseason to hope for is probably something like: Lose: Arrieta, Lackey, Rondon, Davis, Duensing, Grimm, Jay Add: Otani Alex Cobb Jake McGee (little cheaper since he doesn't have the "closer" tag) Pat Neshek (old guy that will probably take a 1-2 year deal) Some lefty guy - Lineup looks the same, minus Jay but adding Otani upon occasion - Rotation becomes Lester, Hendricks, Q, Otani, Cobb - Bullpen becomes McGee, Strop, Edwards, Wilson, Neshek, Some Lefty Guy, Montgomery, Maples/Minors
  15. The Rockies have McGee, Neshek and possibly Holland as free agents this offseason. In particular, I'd like to target McGee as an acquisition this winter if he's not too expensive.
  16. I think my ideal offseason would include Toronto's GM having a bout of temporary insanity and trading us Stroman for Schwarbs. Plus signing Otani, of course.
  17. It's the last game of the season. Blowout or not, I'm watching to the bitter end. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk Same. I did put it on mute, though.
  18. I hope they fly to Arizona and jump in the pool.
  19. Yeah, like watching the Bulls would take my mind off of a trainwreck.
  20. I believe Rondon just guaranteed his non-tender this offseason.
  21. My bad. Just getting in. I'll get the pizza and wine going right away.
