  1. If the Cubs don't get him, I'd love to see him playing next to Trout.
  2. Why are there no AL teams looking for a superstar? -- eta n/m, just saw that the Angels are there, just mostly covered up.
  3. In retrospect, allowing that GB comeback in week 1 pisses me off the most.
  4. Nice to win the division and knock out Green Bay all at one time.
  5. I assume he was Rule 5 eligible and they had to wait until after the draft to make sure he made it through.
  6. We waiting until the decent players are gone to go dumpster diving. Every time I see one of your posts this offseason, I feel that I should really look into a downvoting system.
  7. These winter meetings are boring. I'm bored. Just sign Harper, Lowrie and a bunch of relievers already.
  8. I don't know if it's a rule but there were B1G teams that only played 9 this year. Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota come to mind. Thought you were going to say everyone that played Illinois the past few years.
  9. They're literally the only team in the Power 5 that pretty much isn't allowed to lose a game. Everyone else gets a freebie extra game at the end if they're good enough to be in contention. I'd say that's plenty enough of a disadvantage without rigging the seedings of a playoff for no real reason. Clemson should get to play a Washington or something in the 1st round of this thing rather than an unbeaten team Wouldnt you rather fix the former problem rather than the latter? You seem to be upset about the seedings proposal but both problems would be fixed if you just joined the damn ACC like all of your other sports. Actually, I believe at least one of their sports (I forget what, though) is in the Big10
  10. Why? I think they have been fine. Stuff like that. Like, I never get the determination some people have to make it seem like they have no opinion about someone or something. He does have an opinion. In his opinion, on the balance, they've been meh.
  11. I'm attempting to harbor a careful neutrality.
  12. That makes a lot more sense than picking up Hamels option and then realizing they don't have any money left in the bank without dumping salary. I haven't double checked how tight 2020 might be recently to know exactly how likely that outcome is though. Spotrac has us at 115 committed for next year, pre-arb (so maybe ~$165 after arbitration?) and 60 committed for 21’ pre-arb. I've posted it before, but I like using these guys for their projections: https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-chicago-cubs-info/
  13. But it is true for Harper. So it may be a different situation, eh? This is heavily motivated reasoning All I've said is that the situations are very different from past pursuits and that may drive different negotiating behavior. I am *not* saying that this behavior means they are definitely pursuing Harper. What I *am* saying is that you cannot extrapolate from their behavior with other free agents in this situation. In other words, I'm more denying your logic than supporting Rob's.
  14. They also didn’t tell everyone they couldn’t afford him. The Otani courting was also very public as it happened The Ohtani thing was *very* different out of necessity, driven by the posting process at the time.
  15. How many of those players had waged a multi-year hint campaign that they really, really wanted to be a Cub? How many of them were positioned to get the largest contract in sports history? None of them fit the special category you made up ad hoc to special plead this case, correct But it is true for Harper. So it may be a different situation, eh?
  16. Every single time they’ve wanted a player, they’ve gone over the top making a pitch to him. They’ve never once played hard to get, because that would be dumb. How many of those players had waged a multi-year hint campaign that they really, really wanted to be a Cub? How many of them were positioned to get the largest contract in sports history?
  17. And now it's really over.
  18. Bears a couple minutes away from a 2.5 game lead
  19. I was irrationally irritated that he: 1) intercepted the ball instead of knocking it down on a 4th down conversion (totally understandable instinct, though) 2) gave himself up instead of trying to kill time / change field position running the ball But mostly I was happy that it sealed the win.
  20. I don't remember seeing this noted here: https://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/drillers/pro-baseball-cubs-hire-drillers-hitting-coach-terrmel-sledge/article_40143101-68ed-5e17-84fe-1e6d9730f083.html
  21. Zobrist is a great sell-high candidate, unlike most others on the team. I'd be more than fine with moving him in the right sequence of events. What won't make people happy is that it *might* mean the Cubs are serious about keeping Russell.
  22. Not sure I could name a player of the game for the defense. There were so many outstanding efforts.
  23. lol - my feed must be slow.
