  1. lol - going for two
  2. I can't even remember seeing a kicker hit the upright twice in a game before.
  3. So this entire year, save for two 4th quarters and one game without their best defender? Pretty much
  4. When these guys look good, they look *really* good
  5. Callahan is pricing himself out of the Bears being able to re-sign him
  6. Why's that gross? I wouldn't want to be the one to pay for him after he had a career year to over-inflate his value. If I could pay for him as a 2.5-3 war player, sure. If he's going to be valued as a 5+ war guy? No way. I don't believe he's that guy going into this 30's.
  7. Packers 27th, Lions 24th, and Vikings 21st I feel that article failed to make the case that this stat is predictive of success. I don't see anything in that article to determine whether that stat has a causal, correlated or resultant relationship with wins. My sense is that it's merely correlated due to other root causes influencing both overall success and points per yard.
  8. Real collusion would be that nobody signs him and he sits out the season (AKA Kapernick). This won't happen either. what Well, he's right that it would be one form of collusion. He's not right in the implication that his scenario is the *only* form of "real" collusion.
  9. I'm 90% confident that we could essentially stand pat at this point and win 90+ games and make the playoffs in 2019 (barring abnormal health issues). I don't feel bad, I just want more.
  10. Gordon is Juan Pierre 2.0, no horsefeathering thank you. He also makes ~$25 million the next two years Yeah but he actually plays pretty solid defense at multiple positions. I'd also assume the Mariners would pay down his salary to move him. Or take Chatwood back.
  11. Yeah it seems like they’re trying to smoke Joe out with this move Yup, this sounds exactly like they just don't want to technically take the shot on Joe. I would not shed a tear at all if Maddon WAS actually fired, but that they're treading so carefully with this just gets my doom boner going in that it makes me think they don't want the fans getting surly over both firing the WS manager AND having a disappointing offseason. Like, they WANT to fire him, but they don't want the extra fan blowback. Plus the PR hit they're going to take when Russell gets brought back, just to complete the trifecta.
  12. Yea, and I don't think it even took that much hindsight benefit to say some of those deals were bad as they were handed out. Bowman showed way too much loyalty to his guys. Either extending them or reacquiring them.
  13. btw - my interest in Donaldson is if some of the contract estimates I've seen out there around 3/60 are accurate.
  14. He's under control through 2020, so they just tender him a contract. Am I missing something? I didn't bother saying that they have to tender Bryant, either.
  15. what motivation would the angels have to trade cozart for chatwood? what's the upside for them I have no idea. Other than he’s coming off a shoulder surgery, they cost about the same, the Angels apparently don’t have much money to spend and it’s our crap for their crap but fills what both teams “need.” Chatwood gives them a rotation arm and Cozart gives us our backup SS/Infielder. Pretty much the rationale I've seen out there.
  16. Assuming we've got a "no" on Harper, how about this... 1) Happ for Jon Gray 2) Chatwood for Cozart 3) Russell for Hector Neris+ (or better if you can get it) 4) Sell off Kintzler & Duensing 5) Sign Donaldson 6) Sign Rene Rivera (or some version of Rene Rivera) 7) Sign De La Rosa to cheap 1 yr deal 8) Sign Chavez to cheap 1 yr deal (he was at 1/1 last year) That gives us a lineup of: 2B) Zobrist RF) Bryant 1B) Rizzo 3B) Donaldson LF) Schwarber SS) Baez C) Contreras CF) Heyward With a bench of: Rivera, Cozart, Almora & La Stella Starters are: Lester Darvish Hendricks Quintana Hamels Gray If nobody is hurt, then either play DL games; turn Gray into the multi-inning reliever; or piggyback Gray and Quintana Pen is: Morrow Strop Cishek Neris (hope his 2018 second half is his new normal - 41.6 K%, 5.9 BB%, 2.71 FIP, 2.13 xFIP) Chavez Edwards Monty De La Rosa + shuttle guys
  17. If Jon Gray really could be had for Ian Happ, I'd say do it today and then work on the best deal that can be had for Quintana. I think Q will be better in 2019, but the price savings would probably be worth it. On Chatwood, I've seen a couple people throw out a Chatwood/Cozart swap that would be a wash on dollars but would provide the Cubs with a better fit for the roster (assuming they move on from Russell). The hope there would be that his shoulder is 100% in 2019 and he'd get back to 2017 levels of production.
  18. And that was a lousy PI penalty
  19. That was a lousy facemask penalty
  20. It was actually completely legit.
  21. Nevermind - that's a good call.
  22. They got the PI back... That's a horrible non-call
  23. THAT was offensive pi?
  24. Eddie Jackson is kinda good
