  1. Not a single player from the greatest stretch of Cubs baseball ever who was either developed or acquired under Theo.list> Yep, checks out.
  2. Bill Buckner - my favorite player when I was a kid Javy - absolutely the most fun Cub player ever After that it gets really hard.
  3. Just for SSR: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-michael-jordan-was-the-best/
  4. Excellent...one down. you knew paxson wasn't going to get tossed on the street. he'll have a title. same one doug collins has. I was thinking primarily of Boylen.
  5. Excellent...one down.
  6. There are many ways to answer your question, but the $3.2B figure isn't the best. It's not a "return," it's a valuation. A simplified example is you buy a house for $100k. You do some renovations for $20k over a 10 year period. Over that timeframe, the real estate market heats up and the neighborhood becomes more valuable. Today, a real estate agent tells you that the house is worth $150k. This fact alone doesn't change your income or cash position. If PTR would do us a favor and sell high, he wouldn't be poor any longer and then we could feel more comfortable rooting for the Cubs again. What makes you think the next billionaire would be better?
  7. This was done for James Harden a year or so ago. I am most shocked to learn that Wisconsin has more strip clubs than people (based on SC per capita numbers).
  8. That's....more than I was expecting to give up.
  9. Didn't have to follow the rest of the Bulls & Blackhawks seasons.
  10. They should just go ahead and negotiate the new labor agreement while this is going on.
  11. Also, Javy is back. :D
  12. Amazing. I was going to make a post the other day about how its strange that we haven't heard a peep about Russell signing anywhere, even as a minor league FA. Figured some horsefeathers team out there would take a chance on him. But then I though 'horsefeathers Addison Russell, he doesnt deserve any more discussion here' Who?
  13. Excellent. I don't want him hurt. I just want him to suck.
  14. This was... underwhelming
  15. This is a ridiculous take, imo. If a guy actually called out the team while he was on it, even more people would cite his snitchiness. It's ridiculous to expect some mid-roster nobody to make that move while on the team. If it’s ridiculous, that says more about the culture of baseball than anything. I’m giving Fiers credit for calling it out. He should have. As I said in my post, better late than never. But Fiers overlooked it when he was there, he overlooked it in 2018 and he overlooked it in 2019. He waited until after he got another $20M guaranteed after making only about $5M total through the 2017 season. He also waited until after he got a ring. I’m not saying it would be easy to stand up and call them out for it, but if all you’re risking is your baseball career, well, you’re not really risking that much. Sometimes doing the right thing requires some sacrifice. I understand your point, but I can't quite get behind it. If he had waited to report on some form of sexual/child abuse, etc., then I'd absolutely agree. But to risk his future in the game (and setting himself and his family up for life) over the cheating scandal...not sure I can feel any indignation about the timing here.
  16. Thanks for taking care of this, Tim! I’m not a computer guy and had no clue what happened. For a while, thought the site was just down. But into day two, started thinking maybe I had some malware. Again, thanks! This is pretty much my only Cubs site other than the Cubs official site. Is the donation link open? I believe so! Thanks Also, for those (like me) that are getting the site from one device but not another, it takes a while for these changes to propagate through the nets.
  17. The domain registration lapsed. Turns out the company I registered with back in 2003 isn't in business as themselves any more. It was a pain to get it squared away. Should be good for five more years, though.
  18. If Colorado is that desperate to move Arenado, they can take Heyward and a couple of prospects back in return and we'll call it even.
  19. Who is more popular in Colorado than Arenado? Or did you read that wrong?
  20. The Cubs can trade any of Baez, Bryant, Contreras, and Schwarber at the trade deadline with at least full season of powerful control than Baltimore had when trading Machado...Contreras would still have two and a half years at the deadline We're not going to trade any of them when we have a five game lead in the division, though. That's right, we're rocking with this team in 2020. (side note: I'm sitting in a brewery in Grand Rapids right now)
  21. They weren't a true talent 84 win team last year. everything else I agree with.
  22. That makes sense, but we know they've been working on this a while. Extensions don't generally just get knocked out in a couple weeks or in a relatively quick manner (Bote one being an exception). Cubs have been trying to do some of these extensions for years now... Just seems like there is more expediency around this time in MLB for some weird reason. I wonder how much of it is finally getting face-to-face time. Like teams and agents work through the broad strokes of a deal throughout the offseason, but it doesn't get finished until the player and team are in a room together. Another thing is that most players cut off negotiations at the start of the season. Baseball execs love nothing more than doing jack horsefeathers until the moment before they absolutely have to. It also has a lot to do with the timing of arbitration hearings.
  23. Well, if he had Porter, Lauri and Carter, it would help. Mind you, they'd still suck, but it would help balance the load.
  24. Yeah, I don't like him because he doesn't actually do anything particularly well. No huge platoon split that can be leverage, not a great defender, etc. That being said he seems like he might be the most likely to bounce all the way back of these third tier 2B options. The difference between Kipnis in 2017-2019 and 2014-2016 appears to basically just be BABIP. He was a .324 guy earlier in his career and a .260 guy the last three years. It doesn't look like luck, as he's popping the ball up basically twice as much, but maybe there is some fairly black and white mechanical thing that can flip the switch back? I liked Gennett better, but maybe he wouldn't take the minimum MiLB deal.
