  1. Not arguing what he should get or is really worth, but we know how it actually works. I don't see any way he gets $300+. Arenado "only" got 8/260 and that included his last year of arbitration at ~$30 mil at age 27 and 2 years of FA bought out below the age of 30. KB won't be getting any pre age 30 years of FA bought out (2-3 years of arb bought out, with only 1 reflecting anything close to his real value) if he extends or will be a 30-31 year old FA when he gets there. Whether it's as an early extension or as a FA I think KB is getting closer to $200 million than $300 million. It's why I think around a 7/200 or 8/220 extension done now or next offseason is pretty realistic and he should think real hard about taking it (if offered or something similar) vs waiting to get to FA. Again this is looking at how it actually works vs how it should work. I was thinking $30M AAV for 8 years, or a $25M AAV for 10 years. So something in the $250M range.
  2. With English that good, I'm shocked he ever uses a translator.
  3. I still think he made up his mind he wouldn't extend back during the service time gaming. He seems like the type to hold that grudge. We'll see. I bet they've only offered him roughly the Rizzo extension x~20%. Unless he's really holding a grudge and back to his normal self this year I'd be he's getting the 7-8 year ~$25 AAV extension offer over next offseason and that will be tough to turn down for him. If he's back to his normal self, do you think he and Boras would agree to a $200M contract that takes him well past his prime?
  4. If I remember correctly, aren't MiL players also docked part of their room and board? Or perhaps they are responsible for it out of their meager salary. One of my coworkers had a son who was drafted by the Mariners out of college. If I remember correctly, they got one meal covered during the day, and the rest they had to pay for. I know these guys are playing a game, and vying for an opportunity to be famous and fabulously wealthy, but the minor leagues really are a scam.
  5. Except the Dodgers. And Washington is the same as us. No one seems to have noticed this, but apparently I didn't read Derwood's post closely enough...
  6. Except the Dodgers. And Washington is the same as us.
  7. But how often does the shift result in 2 outfielders, or something weird like that? Most casual fans (which also translates to most fans) want more offense, and the shift specifically counteracts that.
  8. If we're really going to move to no mound visits, why not just modernize the game, and allow managers/coaches to communicate with players via an earpiece? You can speed things up, and do away with sign stealing. Obviously, you'd need strong encryption, and possibly some sort of league monitoring/review process to ensure everything is on the up and up, but let's move into the modern era.
  9. It's not something stupid, it's something cruel. It's a violation of a person's privacy and body.
  10. All hail the new Andrew Miller!
  11. Gotta keep the Trump re-election fund topped up...
  12. Because that spot is approximately where a bulls-eye would be on a regular dartboard.
  13. I knew this to be fact in the early aughts.
  14. Fans are really, really stupid.
  15. Who would you want to root for, though? They all suck. Maybe Tampa for their creativity?
  16. I just realized that I'm not seein any ads on this site because I run an ad blocker, and how not cool that is around here. Sorry Tim, I've turned it off now. Reminder to anyone running an ad blocker - keep it on for major sites, but not for places like this.
  17. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20272947/don-baylor-1979-american-league-mvp-angels-dies-age-68 Aw man...it's not fun to hate on someone who's dead. Thanks for ruining my day.
  18. Of those four, Hundley was easily the most unlikable human being. He also has other unique qualities those other guys do not share. Also Don Baylor wasn't a good manager, but that's way too extreme. I was convinced that Corey Patterson, Juan Cruz, Hee-Soep Choi, etc...were the future of the Cubs, and Baylor was actively working to destroy them. Unfair and illogical? Most likely. But we're talking about sports hatred. There's nothing fair or logical about it most of the time.
  19. I never hated players for sucking. Even as big a bust as Todd Hundley was, I could never bring myself to hate on him. Just Moises Alou, for some reason. Now, Cubs managers...that's a different story. Don Baylor and Dusty Baker can go straight to hell.
  20. Everyone here should know that even if we traded Heyward and Zobrist, we'd probably eat the savings because...uh...we really believe in Happ and Bote as as cornerstones of this team going forward.
  21. So...is the company referred to here the Cubs or Sinclair? Which evil empire is making that $40M-$50M?
  22. Moises Alou was a whining, complaining baby. The Bartman play was just an example of everything wrong with him.
  23. Oh man...I love that sound...
  24. This dude had the whole world in front of him at age 22. I thought he was going to be a superstar; he was so money in the 2016 playoffs. Now he looks like my a$$ haha. Moises Alou was my only hated Cub for a long time. Now he's been so spectacularly surpassed in my book, that I wonder why I hated Alou so much in the first place. Not really, I know why I hated Alou, but it pales in comparison to this [expletive]. I want Russell to fail at baseball more than I want the Cubs to succeed. When he takes the plate this season, I want him to strike out, or ground into a DP every at bat. I want him to make error after error in the field. I want his baseball playing to be as repugnant as his personality, and I don't care what it costs the Cubs. In fact, I hope it hurts the team, because we deserve it.
