  1. Gameday said that Neifi hit the ball in play and an out was recorded, but then it said he singled right after that.
  2. And thanks Dusty for having the foresight to play Neifi. Walker probably would've just clogged the bases. Just say no to base clogging Has a HR ever been overturned because there were guys clogging the bases? Well, if a base runner falls behind the guy who hit it, I believe it is an out. It had to have happened at some point in over 100 years of ball. That's why we need speedy guys batting in front of DLee and Aramis. You can't underestimate the importance of speed. Yep. The faster they get back to the dugout, the quicker Lee can get up there to hit his solo homeruns.

  4. Agreed. The Cards big 3 is better than the Cubs big 3. I'd take Cubs other 5 vs. the Cards 5, though. I'm just curious as to who is the 3rd of our big 3. Is it the guy who's on the bench today? Barrett, but there's not a lot of difference. I was trying to decide between the two. It could always be Murton, though. Never know. Jerome Williams is pretty big.
  5. i never said the cubs' lineup was better...i'm unimpressed with both. I don't think the Cubs lineup is better either, I just think its funny that most of the "experts" in the media think the Cardinals are going to run away with the division because their lineup is so potent. Outside of the big 3, they really are pretty weak.
  6. Kingman's career ops was .780, Dunn's is .891 and he hasn't even reached his prime yet. That's not a very good comparison.
  7. Jones sucks, but let's not overreact. If we didn't have Jones on the team Hendry could have given more money to players who deserve bigger contracts, like Neifi and Rusch... I'm fine with that, but Jones is Roberto Clemente compared to Patterson. What is this comparison based on?
  8. I think whatever he brings to the table, Williams probably eats.
  9. According to the stats on page 1 of this thread, he's hitting .333 with 4 hr and 10 rbi against Rusch.
  10. The problem with the Hawkins and Remlinger deals wasn't necessarily that the deals were made, but rather that they were both forced into situations that they weren't suited for - Remlinger pitching to lefties and Hawkins closing. Hopefully, management has learned from these mistakes and will use Eyre and Howry appropriately.
  11. What if McGuire and Sosa say they didn't do steriods? It sounds to me like you've already convicted them. What about other players, Termell Sledge, Palmerio, and the dozen or so minor leaguers who have been caught? The point is I'd give them a free pass. Free from prosecution. So they can tell what they know. If it's nothing, then it's nothing, but I'm betting it's something and this would ensure that their rep. will be intact. How can you say that their rep will still be intact? MLB may give them a free pass, but if these guys are openly admitting to using performance enhancing substances, I would bet that most fans would not be so kind. And what about hall of fame voters? These guys would have way too much to lose and nothing to gain.
  12. Kinda funny how Pagan had the home run today (his third), while Restovich swiped a bag. What I don't like about Restovich is his strike out numbers this Spring. Normally I don't care too much about k's, but a pinch hitter needs to be able to make contact (might need a bunt, a sac fly, etc.). Pagan has shown a better ability to make contact this spring. I think his speed could really be an asset late in games as well (pinch runner, etc). A pinch hitter maybe needing to get the sac fly I can see, but why would you ever waste a pinch hitter in a bunting situation? You might as well let the pitcher hit for himself in that case and save the pinch hitter in case you need him later on.
  13. it is probably because there are a few guys ahead of him like hill & guzman. looking at the guys we have now without wood, prior & maddux , i still think the cubs starting pitching can be a major strength after 2006. with miller doing well in rehab a rotation of z, miller & williams/rusch to go along with 2 others from the hill, marshall, guzman & ryu list looks very good to me talent wise. while i'm glad the cubs are going with cedeno instead of trading for tejada, maybe it wouldnt be a bad thing if prior & wood were both gone. in hindsight, i wonder if the cubs wish they would have taken texeria instead of prior. Where is Prior going? If you include Miller in the rotation for next season, why would you not also include Prior? He's not a free agent, and I don't think anyone is looking at trading him, so why wouldn't he be there? If you say that he isn't included because he will probably be hurt, then shouldn't you speculate the same thing about Miller since he has the same rep for being injured a lot?
  14. I think the problem may be that you are linking to a php file that is displaying the image rather than to the image itself. You would probably be better off if you did what NCCubbieFan suggested. You can right-click the image using the link that you have and save it to your PC, and then you can upload it to an image hosting site like Photobucket. Once you've done that you should have no problem linking to it in your signature on this site.
  15. What about Marshall? Does he have any chance at being in the rotation to start the season?
  16. Actually, I believe the movie Field of Dreams was based off of W.P. Kinsella's novel Shoeless Joe.
  17. Steve Garvey
  18. Yes, NY, Hendry was helped along in those trades, but that doesn't change the fact that these guys helped us land our best offensive players. He also traded Willis for Alf or Clement. You can take your pick of which. I love how whenever someone brings up previous bad deals by Hendry, this is always one that comes up. In retrospect, the Marlins probably got the better end of the deal to this point, but how do you know Willis will amount to much over the course of his career just because he had a couple of good seasons so far. Clement was a big part of that 2003 team that ended up 5 outs from the World Series, and without him there is no way the Cubs make it as far as they did. When that trade was made, most people were elated and thought that the Cubs totally got the better end of the deal because they got two major leaguers for a couple of minor leaguers.
  19. I didn't know we had the option of trading Nomar.
  20. I was jkrapfl on the ESPN board. I never posted much there and I believe this is my first post here, but I always enjoyed reading the in-depth analysis from guys like Goony, UK, Raw, Vsah, etc. whenever possible. That board is now a complete joke, overrun with trolls from various boards and the ones that call themselves Cub fans are not worth engaging in conversation with (i.e. Davemason, ByeByeSammy/Corey, etc).
