  1. Is this a joke? Do you recall this thread?
  2. Ok Dr. Ease up. not "dr. ease up". I'm referring to this specific situation and you claiming you'd be pissed if he said what he said to your kid. If it was something where he was out of line or mistreating a kid, absolutely a parent should be pissed. But your overly dramatic reaction to his story is silly. So now I'm a doctor? I guess I still don't get it, but whatever. I don't think being pissed if someone guilt trips your 9-year-old is a "silly, overly dramatic reaction." I think that's a pretty bad lesson to teach a 9-year-old. So yes, I'd be a little pissed. But I think you're overstating my reaction. I probably wouldn't say anything to the coach, though I'd probably talk about it with my kid. But it would upset me. I'm a parent of a young child and I'm constantly amazed at what he picks up, so I'm sensitive to the lessons he's learning from others (whether they know he's learning from them or not). I'm surprised you wouldn't be upset if someone did that to your kid. Why would that be a horrible lesson to teach a kid? Its called life. If, in my job, I have a large project where a team of people is depending on me doing my part and I refuse to do it, I'm going to be letting the entire team down. Its the same thing, and its a good lesson to teach at any age.
  3. Look up at the top of the screen in the CBS sports banner. It has a link to the video.
  4. Actually, with the new version of the board software, it looks like anyone should be able to block signatures and avatars. Just go to User Control Panel --> Board Preferences --> edit display options. Unless this is something that is going to be going away for non-premium users in the future.
  5. I think Marshall would be available, wouldn't he?
  6. So....non-fiction. He said requirements. Can't those be classified as fiction a lot of times?
  7. What are you doing to clear your cookies? I'm going to tools/internet options and clicking delete cookies. I have also tried deleting files and all offline content as well, but cubs.com is still recognizing me as having voted for vance already. Beyond those steps, I'm pretty illiterate in terms of clearing the footprints on my computer, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I am using Firefox, but all I had to do is go to Tools -> Options, click on the Privacy tab, and then on the Cookies tab. Then click clear cookies now, close out of the Options window and vote again. This morning I was able to do the same thing with IE, but I had to close my browser and open a new browser window before attempting to vote again. However, that was with IE 6, and the results may be different with different browser versions (especially IE 7).
  8. I haven't had any problems with clearing cookies. I think throughout the day I've probably voted for Vance around 200 times at least.
  9. Make sure to check the time that it says your vote for Vance has been registered. That time hasn't changed for me since my first vote, so I don't think that even closing the browser is helping. You may not be able to vote more than once from any computer. Luckily, there are 12 extra computers across the street from me that I'll be able to commit to Vance's cause in about an hour. And nine more in my classroom. My time does change, that's how I know that it is working.
  10. I don't know if it is just me or not, but just deleting the cookies and doing nothing else between votes doesn't seem to work in Internet Explorer. Instead, after I vote I have to delete cookies and then close my browser. Then when I launch a new browser window and vote again the second vote is registered. If I don't close my browser after deleting cookies, it doesn't seem to register the second vote. It seems to only be a problem in IE, as Firefox works fine with just deleting cookies.
  11. Considering Dopirak has already been at AA, your "prediction" would be pretty meaningless, now wouldn't it? Do you post just for the sake of posting most of the time, or do you ever have actual content to contribute? Just curious. I believe he said "past AA", as in AAA or MLB. And the phrase "significant time" was also thrown in there, so I'm pretty sure his "prediction" is still completely possible and probably pretty likely.

  13. Why compare 2003 to 2007? If the Cubs end up with the same record, its highly unlikely that they make the playoffs. 88 wins is not a great season, and I would prefer not to use that as the benchmark for how good this season is going. Yes, that team was only 5 outs from the WS, but they had a lot of luck going for them just to get into the playoffs in the first place. Just to put a little perspective behind this, look at 2001 and 2004. In 2001 that team finished with an identical record to 2003 and finished in 3rd place in the division. In 2004, they had a better record by one game and also finished in 3rd place in the division. Its really pointless to compare records from past seasons to this season because the teams that they are chasing are not going to do the same as in past years. The only thing they can do is continue to win as many games as possible. If you really want to compare past seasons, maybe a 1989 comparison would be better since that year they finished with 93 wins. At the 100 game mark in 1989 that team was 55 - 45.
  14. :party1: Congratulations TT :party3:
  15. All you have to do is click on view results-it's right under the poll options, and you can look for yourself as many times as you want without having to vote. I thought the only way to get the results was to wait for killthegoat to post an update.
  16. i changed it, did it work? and yes 5-5 is clutch no matter how you put it still 1-6 isn't a good day even with a game winner So if it's so easy to get at least 2 hits in 6 at bats then why doesn't everyone have at least a .333 batting average? And anyone that doesn't, they must not be "clutch". it's not about ba it's because he was 0-5 before that So what. Every player in baseball is going to have days where they don't get a hit. It says nothing about how good or "clutch" that player is. The no-hit days are balanced out with multiple hit days over the course of the season.

  18. They will probably throw him in the rotation and have him get shelled for a few games then try to dump him for peanuts. ...Ahead of the trifecta of suckage :?:
  19. Given that he is a converted infielder, shouldn't it help that he has less mileage on his arm? Depends on how you look at it. Some players are able to convert into becoming a pitcher and some end of blowing out their arms trying to. Im not going to go into the mechanical side of it because the majority of the people would not understand it. I realize that we're not all quality pitchers like yourself with complete understanding of the human anatomy and how pitching mechanics affect the body, but I think you would be surprised what people are capable of comprehending. Why don't you humor us and try to explain it?
  20. This post really makes no sense, considering Aramis is easily one of the best hitters on the team and in the league. And, why in the world did you spell his name backwards in the post title?
  21. That conference call was classic. BeerHere was always entertaining on the ESPN boards. Plus, Bob is a Hawkeye fan so I have to vote against him.
  22. Not to mention a college ball player (in the SEC, which is equivalent to double A, so I hear) and law student. Sulley, you really should do a better job of bragging yourself up. You're right, the choice is easy.
  23. And what exactly are people jealous about? That Pujols is a whiny little baby? Give me a break.
  24. Fixed and yes. Hey now, 4 games at a time. Honestly, though, I look at the schedule, and every game looks winnable. Obviously, it's never been done. It's hard to stay that consistent. But I do feel like we're set up as good as anyone ever has been to make a run at it. Actually, it has been done once - The 1972 Miami Dolphins. But it would still be an incredible accomplishment.
  25. They have been winning divisions as long as I can remember. Darn kids. Don't you ever remember the Cubs winning the East? Or how about that when the Braves started their streak, they were actually in the NL West.
