  1. If they do it right is key. They could just be doing an intro to SABR show, and I guess that would be better than what we have, but idk how excited I'd be about hearing MLB Network explain to the casual fan stuff I already understand.
  2. This. I don't think people are understanding his greatness and the fact that a regressing Albert would still be one of the best players in the league.
  3. In this age of evil rich people it's refreshing to have one on the side of justice and good. He's like the baseball Batman. Tom in the Dark Knight's suit, "Swear to Tommy"
  4. I have huge man wood for Knight/Sir/whatever cool title Thomas S. Ricketts. (I am making him an American Knight, idc) I think we have a clear top 3 F.O. You could easily make an argument for it being #1. Better question, do we have the best owner in the NL? MLB?
  5. He didn't, it was just poor English on my part.
  6. Joe Maddon, if I had to pick one. Honestly I mean sure, but I really just think managers only have to not be complete morons. As long as you aren't a Dusty or TLR batting pitchers 8th and bunting every inning then I can tolerate you. Why are most people (media) so afraid to admit how unimportant managers are? Or am I undervaluing them at this point?
  7. Just wondering, I might be just blanking, but who does NSBB regard as the best manager in the league?
  8. F*** the 2011 Cubs, most uninteresting team to watch in a while. Starlin was basically the only reason I cared to turn on the T.V. Watching Soriano hit makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
  9. WOOOOOOO!!! This is awesome, love Rickets and Theo. wanted my 1,000th post to go to a good cause
  10. I really hope Theo gets Albert. Albert > Prince Better hitter, fielder, better body for aging. Just IMO, I know there are many who view Prince as the better option, and that surely can be argued. Not to hijack this thread, but Prince will be 27 at the start of next season, and Albert 32. Let's say they each demanded an 8 year deal, just for giggles. At the end, that puts Prince at 35 and Albert at 40. Are you saying Pujols would be better from ages 37-40 than Prince at ages 32-35? I know it would be speculation, and I know Prince is hefty, but that just seems completely absurd. I guess I am more just of the opinion that I am afraid of Prince gaining weight in his 30s and the fact that Albert is just super human and clearly the better player of the two. I said Prince could surely be argued as the one to sign and age was the main reason. Anyway, probably not the right place to debate this.
  11. That definitely seems to increase the chances of a reasonable resolution. Lucchino is a nut job. Also guess you have to trust Theo's judgement in deciding who he is giving up.
  12. Over/under 50% chance of complete breakdown?

  14. How do you not LOVE Tommy at this point. I could have never even imagined him pulling this off when he bought the team. Glad I was wrong. Secondly, if it's Selig deciding the comp, what are you all thinking he's leaning towards, Cubs view or BSox view? Personally, the obvious answer has to be Cubs because no matter how many times SoSH says Boston had the leverage, the reality is that they had basically none at all.
  15. Exactly. I freaking LOVED Edmonds and I loved that team. So Sad.
  16. This thread has been  for a while, I keep refreshing hoping for something more like :starwars:
  17. He was added part of the way through the season, after Ramirez/Lofton but before Simon. The only thing I remember from him is that he hit a big triple that helped us win a game. A game? "In game 3 of the 2003 NL Championship series, Glanville hit the game-winning triple in the 11th inning for the Chicago Cubs." - Wikipedia (do I actually even have to cite Wikipedia) Right in the middle of some of the highest points in my history of being a Cubs fan. (Followed by easily the lowest) Honestly though, what hurt you guys more though? 2003 or 2008? 2003 was just so surreal at times that it was almost like "when is this going to end" because you couldn't believe they could keep it up. Although I will say that getting that close and the way we just fell apart (nothing to do with Bartman, obviously), stung pretty badly and left me crushed. 2008 really sucked for me just because everything felt right. Edmonds, Theriot actually getting on base, SOTO!, Demp as a starter, best record in the NL, every move worked. Then it was like mid sprint running into a brick wall and getting the wind knocked out of you. 2003 is more memorable, but 2008 might have hurt just as much for me.
  18. Hell no. Old Hoss Radbourn's achievement goes beyond wins. How the hell did he keep his arm attached to throw so many innings? You can say that about damn near every pitcher up until the late 80's. Did technology, money, and medical advancements ruin the age of the 300 IP starter? There were so many guys who could do that like it was nothing. What happened to our baseball players that has them not doing that? Owners worried about their investment? Advanced medical technology picks up on smaller injuries that guys used to pitch through? Wasn't there also a switch over to a 5-man rotation some time in the 80's? Weren't clubs usually ran with a 4-man rotation prior to that? Guys throw a hell of a lot harder now on a regular basis. Plus with the emphasis on offense there aren't as many free outs in the 7-9 batters as there were back then, so you have to bring it against every hitter. Your arm gets no let up at the end of the order to take 5 mph off of your fastball. Those are a couple factors why throwing 300 innings is suicide today and why they did it so often in the past.
  19. Well, at least we are still ahead of the 'Stros despite the fact that they swept us. Also, any standout players in the draft this year worth being happy about bombing the season for?
  20. Let's get Dwight Howard. no chance of that actually happening
  21. Pretty sure that is in place so that when people deliberately type "White Su x" it shows up as White Sox, White Sox. Also assuming most people are going to spell "su x" as sucks. And it's late, and I realized you already understand that. Anyway, lol, I'm going to go to bed, goodnight.

  23. The game threads are really lame now. Is there a different website people migrated to or do people just really care this much less than before? Because if they care less, that's a pretty dramatic change.
