  1. That flip was pretty funny, Gomez just got excited he hit the ball fair.
  2. I don't think LaHair is a starting caliber player, but I'd love for him to prove me wrong. For my interpretation of the purpose of this season though, he should be starting every day. He has potential value (even if it isn't much there's still some there), Baker doesn't really have any value at all.
  3. But why? He was the most difficult Cub for me to watch as a fan, other than the occasional Soriano utter ridiculousness. Just one of those guys I always thought could be decent given a full time chance, especially if 3rd base was avaialble. I'd have personally preferred just trading Baker for whatever we could get. Probably would get nothing for Baker, since Scutaro got almost nothing and is a better player. Plus, Baker is more useful than DeWitt. He is better than DeWitt at what DeWitt is good at.
  4. What do you see in DeWitt? He has always been pretty garbage outside of his rookie season and has been a replacement level player on the Cubs. I get confused with you WSR, you put way too much stock into rookie hot streaks. Even when he was highly thought of his OBP was .339 (the year before he was a top 100 prospect), and .320 (the year he was BA's #82). Plus, he's a lefty who can't hit right handed pitching and a negative defender. So yeah, what do you like about him?
  5. I am not at all, I actually really like Garza, and definitely think he's closer to 5 wins than 1.6. I just don't know if he's more likely to be a 5 win pitcher or a 3 win pitcher this year though. My feeling is he's somewhere in the middle of those two, so around a 4 win pitcher and if he is then his value still COULD go down. I just feel like there is a lot of risk because I don't think it's very likely his value goes up any further. He could improve, I just don't like the chances and think there is a greater chance of regression. I don't want to be seen as a Garza basher, because I am a huge fan of his. He's got great stuff and numbers to back it up. Highest average fast ball velocity in the NL last year, 7th in K/9, 5th in FIP, 8th in xFIP. The guy clearly pitched great last year and if we were contending I'd love to slot him in at or near the top of the rotation, but while we are trying to maximize our assets I'd like to trade him at his value's peak. He will net the biggest return of the guys who could be traded so I just hope Theo plays this hand right. He has been great so far so I will trust him, but it just makes me nervous. If Garza pitches really well until the trade deadline, would we get more for him then than now? If we would, how much more?
  6. Which is a legitimate concern seeing as his WAR last year is the outlier in his career statistics, and I am not sure his value can really go anywhere but down. I don't want to jump at the first good offer we get, but I really hope Theo doesn't wait too long and Garza ends up losing a lot of value. WAR in his full seasons: 2.9 3.1 1.6 5.0
  7. Although, I guess I don't really care since I hope he will be traded soon.
  8. Yeah, he's a pretty sure non-injury risk. It's still gonna be weird/depressing seeing our ace wearing 22.
  9. Garza taking Prior's number. Hopefully next he takes Prior's 7.6 WAR and not his injury path. Neither is likely, but Garza won't be posting a 7.6 WAR :/
  10. You are coming off as extremely ignorant in this thread. You have no idea what it's like to fight addiction, you honestly have no right to judge. He has had a couple slip ups, and considering his occupation and the lifestyle that goes with it, that's pretty impressive. A good success rate for rehab is about 20% of the people recovering, it's not an easy thing to do. I have had people very close to me deal with it, so I'd say Josh is doing pretty well. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you get on a roll that ends up making you look like an idiot. Hater's gonna hate. You're not special. Everyone has had someone they know battle an addiction. I've seen people I know lose their families, jobs, (not be able to get a new job once they have stuff on their record). So you can save me that part of your speech. It still doesn't change the fact they what I said is true. Hamilton has had access to resources for this, resources above and beyond what 99% of the rest of the population would get in a similar stance. If Josh Hamilton wasn't a phenomenal baseball player would anyone be lining up to employ him? He's had the best treatment programs provided to him by the baseball clubs that employ him. Yeah, I was talking about the top rehab facilities. They have a 20% success rate, the ones that "normal" people would have access to are much lower than that. Also, hmm, I am not going to go into details of my personal life, but yes I am pretty sure that I have much more knowledge and am much closer to this type of situation than you or most people. So you are wrong, good for you for seeing "people you know" going through that, you clearly don't get it or know it the way I do. You are still extremely ignorant and ignoring the facts that it isn't easy to beat regardless of how high end your treatment program is, especially when you were in as deep as he was.

  12. Isn't his name Yoenis not "Yoennis" or "Yoennes," like I have seen people use around here?
  13. He's 27 years old. Of course it is not the smartest thing, but with the DH he's going to be great for at the very least 6 of those years. He hasn't even been "great" for all of the last 4-5 years. Career 930 OPS. Close to a 400 OBP. 35+ HR a year. I'd say he has been great. I wouldn't have given 9 years @ that average salary per season, but the guy is a great hitter and young. He has been a good, but inconsistent, hitter. The game is also played with more than just a bat, and Fielder is a very poor defender who is likely to continue to get worse, and him getting on base a lot is partially negated by the fact that he is a terrible base runner. Fielder is solid, but as the numbers in Rob's excellent article show, he is in the good to great category and not the great to outstanding category. Just read Rob's article, it says it much better than I can.
  14. im gonna give you props for sticking with the front page thing. it's at the point that i read all your articles just because you stuck with it, unlike, ahem, everyone else. Hey, I read it. The front page articles are usually well done and give good analysis.
  15. I hope it moves fast, and I hope we end up getting him. I think he can be a solid player, hopefully we get him for a reasonable cost. Cespedes' arrival, Castro's development, BJax ML debut, and Rizzo's Cubs debut will all give us some good reasons to watch this team even if we aren't winning. Not to mention it will be interesting to see how Stewart, T. Wood, and Volstad all do in their first season with the team. Plus BJax, Rizzo, Castro and Cespedes could be a really solid young offensive core to build around. Definitely agree, I am pretty excited about our future as a ball club.
  16. This makes more sense but I wouldn't be surprised if he pops back up sometime, maybe even under a different name, and starts blindly guessing again. Haha, he probably likes the attention, I guess it worked though.

BS? Who knows. Lol I called this guy out on twitter for being fail so he got pissed and then blocked me.
  19. Am I the only one who is kind of reminded of Sammy? Not his stance, but his physical appearance (body, not face), demeanor and swing.
  20. If one of my friends had said that in front of me, he would have been slapped at a minimum. And my normal junk is about average. Okay you win.
  21. Yeah! Let's all act like tools and give people a hard time about how bad their references are to prove we have some huge e-junk! That will really show 'em! Honestly wow, crap like this in every thread is worthless, get a life.
  22. This whole thread is a sh*t show.
