  1. Oh man, Nomar being a Cub again would be my wet dream. He played some 2B last year, right? Obviously he mashes lefties (and really anyone when he's healthy). I can't imagine he'd cost all that much. Interesting idea. Don't think he'd stay healthy though.
  2. :glare: Is it just me or does that Blake contract seem weird? Almost $6M for Casey Blake? yeesh.
  3. I think he wants upwards of 8 figures. No wonder I haven't heard anything about him this offseason.
  4. Rich Aurilia+Mike Fontenot in a strict platoon wouldn't be bad though. Aurilia has an .836 career OPS vs. lefties. And even better than .836 over the last 3 years. True. I was against it at first, but as long as Lou made it a strict platoon, I would have absolutely zero qualms with it.

  7. "Bradley is Option A for the Cubs" "Cubs/Mets frontrunners for Ibanez" Damn you offseason.
  8. Of all the tidbits mentioned in that Sun Times article, this is the biggest news. All we've heard is that Jake will not revise his list of teams, and that the only team that he can be traded to is the Cubs, and now he says that he expects to land with NY if he doesn't go to the Cubs. Hopefully the Yankees don't hear about this, as they can offer the Padres a much better deal than the Cubs can, and they are much more desperate to find an ace starter, so they would probably overpay for him if CC goes elsewhere. Not that they don't have the resources, but don't you think the Yankees, who have a ton of money available, would rather just give up money for a CC/Burnett instead of a bunch of players for Peavy? Just a thought.
  9. Maybe with Old Lou, but with Cubs Lou I think he's a much more even-keel, laid back guy. He's been ejected what, two, three times with the Cubs? I can only remember the one time his first year and the time against the Sox this past year, but both times it felt really forced, IMO. I think him and Bradley would be fine.
  10. Where do I sign? Seems like an awful lot to give up from our major league team. This team is built to win now, and losing DeRosa and Marshall really hurts our flexibility when Soriano, Harden, Zambrano and Peavy go down at some point. We still have Samardzija and Gaudin (hopefully). Marshall isn't that huge of a loss, though I'd love to keep him.
  11. I'd almost say (and especially should his market drop) Mark Grudzielanek. .982 OPS against lefties last year and .816 for 06-08. If he's serious that, at this point in his career, the most important thing is a ring and the playoffs then you might think he'd be up for a part time role. But having just declined $4.5 from the Royals he'd probably be out of our price range. Drawing blanks on other alternatives. Mark Loretta for a million might have been an option, but it looks like he'll be a Dodger. Very interesting idea on Grudz. I wouldn't be against that for a cheap 1 year deal.
  12. That's pretty much my take on it. When Harden is healthy, I feel like he's the best pitcher in baseball. I agree with this too.
  13. Great news. Hope it's true. Am I the only one confused by this quote? Bradley will come cheaper than his talent level would suggest because of his injury and temper tantrum baggage. Bradley is going to be cheaper than Ibanez? I imagine Bradley getting 3/30 or so. I could see Ibanez getting 3/36 or 3/39 because he's less of an injury-risk and less of a headcase
  14. Bradley is what we need on this offense. Seriously. Soriano-Fuku/Johnson-Bradley would be a great OF. If we keep DeRo, he could spell Bradley and give him time off to keep him healthy (I'd treat him like Harden, to be honest). Otherwise, Fukudome could it as well. I hope Hendry gets this done.
  15. Average fan of the Cubs? I'm pretty sure they'd know who Milton Bradley is. His hot-head ways are pretty well known, especially after the incident at the end of 07. Even the average dude who goes to Wrigley just for fun might know about that stuff. I suppose so. In all honesty I don't really know much about the "average Cub fan" because I post on a message board with you nerds all the time. ;) Not that Milton Bradley isn't a great player, but I don't consider him to be a household name across the league. Though I guess that would make it true that the common fan would know him more for his antics than his talent.
  16. I thought it was $9.xxx mil for this year If so, even better. $9.875M, to be exact. So if it's true that the Cubs would eat $4M of his contract, less than $6M a year for a league-average pitcher in this day and age is a steal.
  17. I think I made three changes to my points and then just said f it because I don't care that much.
  18. Is anyone else concerned that Bradley couldn't handle deal with the media for a major market team? This is the same media that goes overboard against Ramirez for supposedly not hustling enough. I'd be more concerned with how he handles Wrigley fans, who'll start booing him after his first 0-for-8 stretch. Why would they do that? Because they've (i should say we've) boo'd every player with high expectations that's gone through any sort of bad stretch since 2004. And some with low expectations. I guess. Would the average fan of the Cubs have huge expectations for Milton Bradley though? Most of them probably don't even know who he is.

  20. I'm a big advocate for Albert Belle for the HOF too. Unfortunately that's more unlikely than Santo.
  21. Good point. We would be back to Fukudome in RF. We will need to sign Edmonds again. or sign a different RF FA.
  22. Mizzou got 22 votes in the AP and 5 in the USA Today. BEST TEAM EVAR
